00:02As Prime Minister of Italy, it is a genuine honor to pay my tribute for the 50th anniversary of the National Italian American Foundation.

00:11What a wonderful gathering of people that testify the wonderful friendship between Italy and the United States.

00:18I'm really sad not to be with you in person tonight.

00:22Believe me, when I say there is nowhere else I would rather be.

00:26But there are too many things to do here for the country we all love.

00:3050 years.

00:32Think about it.

00:33For half a century, NAIF has been the unwavering voice, the beating heart, and the strong backbone of the Italian American community.

00:42And I want to start by offering my deepest congratulations to the President, the Chairman, the Board of Staff,

00:49and every single member who has built this incredible bridge between our two great nations.

00:55You deserve a big round of applause.

00:59We are here to celebrate the DNA of opportunity, a heritage forged in the toughest neighborhoods,

01:05built on honest work and sustained by unshakable belief in family, faith, and the future.

01:11Your ancestors didn't just come to America.

01:14They helped build and shape today's America.

01:18And that tradition of excellence continues brilliantly to this day.

01:22Tonight, you are honoring an incredible group of individuals representing an exemplification of Italian and Italian-American achievement.

01:33In fact, with so many CEOs and innovators here tonight,

01:37I think it's fair to say that a significant portion of Italy's GDP is sitting right there in the Washington-Hilton.

01:45That's the kind of power that comes from Italian excellence meeting American opportunity.

01:50And speaking of excellence, we must recognize the Maestro Among You,

01:55the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Entertainment,

02:00the voice of Italy to the world, my friend Andrea Bocelli.

02:04Maestro, I remember so clearly when you recently sang at the conclusion of the G7 Summit in Puglia.

02:10Your powerful voice reminded world leaders what true harmony sounds like.

02:17That same harmony is the fundament of the alliance between Italy and the United States.

02:22Our strength, the strength of the West, is born from unparalleled individual excellence,

02:28the singular powerful voice of freedom.

02:31But it is only perfected when the entire orchestra is playing together in flawless, powerful harmony.

02:39This heritage is why we must never lose sight of what unites us.

02:43I know that there are forces that seek to divide us,

02:48to redefine our history and to tear down our shared traditions.

02:53They call it woe culture.

02:55They seek to cancel our culture.

02:58They are wrong.

02:59To try to erase Columbus Day is not just an attack on a statue or a date on the calendar.

03:04It is an attempt to erase the foundational history of Italian-Americans

03:09and to deny their hard-fought place in the tapestry of this nation.

03:14We will not let them do it.

03:18Columbus Day is here to stay.

03:20Let me quote the beautiful proclamation that President Trump issued last week.

03:25He said,

03:25As we celebrate Columbus' legacy,

03:28we also acknowledge the contributions of the countless Italian-Americans

03:32who, like him, have endlessly contributed to our culture and our way of life.

03:39To this day, the United States and Italy share a special bond

03:42rooted in the timeless values of faith, family and freedom.

03:46Well said, President Trump.

03:48Thank you.

03:49Together, the United States and Italy are not just allies.

03:52We are the two pillars of the free world.

03:55We stand shoulder to shoulder from the fields of industry to the front lines of freedom,

04:00ensuring that the ocean of opportunity remains wide open for the next 50 years.

04:05Thank you, Niamh, for 50 years of keeping that voice strong and that orchestra in harmony.
