00:00Oh boy, you're going to love this segment, everyone.
00:02In August, President Trump signed an executive order directing that all...
00:07This is my favorite executive order.
00:09All federal public buildings re-embrace classical architecture.
00:14And not a moment too soon, considering what modern architecture has done to Washington, D.C. and beyond.
00:19Let's take a look at some of these hideous buildings.
00:23Unbelievable.
00:24Starting off in the first two.
00:25And this is pure communist architecture, Department of Labor, and the Department of...
00:31What is this?
00:32The Department of Education.
00:34Brutalist.
00:34Both of which are brutalist, anti-human, communist architecture.
00:39And then, of course, we also have the National Museum of African American History
00:43that looks like an asteroid from outer space landed and sort of halfway exploded.
00:48It's an abomination.
00:49An abomination.
00:50Truly, truly an abomination.
00:51But let's also look out in Chicago, where President Obama is creating his presidential
00:56center, this monstrosity that we keep tracking.
01:00There's actually people on the web that have compared this to the Star Wars Death Star building.
01:07He definitely does not love the South Side.
01:09It looks like a giant concrete port-a-potty.
01:12Or a trash can.
01:13They say architecturally, Charlie, it's modernist.
01:16Meanwhile, we have Trump making architecture great again, trying to bring back classical
01:23architecture, and with his latest idea being the Arc de Triomphe that would meld in very
01:33nicely with the other monuments.
01:35And he was asked, by the way, who would this...
01:37By the way, people are already calling it the Arc of Trump.
01:39Let's just admit that that's happening.
01:41And then they asked him, who will it be dedicated to?
01:44And he said, me.
01:45What's in honor of me?
01:47You look at the details that we know, modeled after a French Arc de Triomphe, to be constructed
01:51on the Arlington, Virginia side of the Arlington Memorial Bridge, going to be part of the 250th
01:58and the Gateway to Washington.
01:59This one's really interesting, because I drive past Memorial, the GW Parkway, Memorial Bridge,
02:05almost every day for the last 30 years, and there's just a roundabout with nothing but grass.
02:11And for years, no one's thought to do anything.
02:13And he's been noting that.
02:13Now, it would, as you look at that drawing up there, Charlie, you just, as you see Mr.
02:18Lincoln looking across into Virginia, you now will have this Arc de Triomphe on the other side.
02:24This will go.
02:25All right.
02:26Let's bring in the chief protocol, U.S. chief protocol and Trump administration representative
02:30to America, 250, Monica Crawley.
02:33Monica, this is really...
02:34We've been very excited about this, because here again, President Trump steps in and sees
02:39something that will simply make Washington, our nation's capital, more beautiful, more
02:46special, more attractive.
02:47What can you tell us?
02:49Well, good morning, guys.
02:50Yeah, this is one of the fantastic benefits of having President Trump, the builder, in office.
02:56So from reimagining the Rose Garden to adorning the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room with presidential
03:03portraits and gilded features, to creating the presidential Walk of Fame on the Colonnade,
03:10to renovating the Palm Room, to establishing the two massive American flags on the North and
03:16South Lawns, to the construction of a new White House Ballroom, now to the new triumphal arc
03:22that he is proposing, all his ideas.
03:25President Trump never stops thinking about ways to beautify and improve the people's house,
03:31the White House, the people's capital, Washington, D.C., and America more generally.
03:36You know what?
03:37Washington, D.C. is the only major western capital that does not have a triumphal arch.
03:43And you never want to tell President Trump that America is the only country that doesn't
03:48have something beautiful and magnificent.
03:51So he has proposed this idea.
03:53It is going to be situated directly between Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln
03:59Memorial.
03:59And once it is built to commemorate America's 250th birthday, it is going to be absolutely
04:05spectacular.
04:06Monica, why is architecture and beauty such an important part of a country?
04:11Well, you know, we used to build beautiful things.
04:15This magnificent structure behind me, the White House, is absolutely gorgeous and historic.
04:21And over time, we've kind of lost that aesthetic of making our country beautiful.
04:27I think the last president to really kind of focus on this was President Eisenhower,
04:31where he wanted to beautify America's highway system and really put a lot of effort and resources
04:37into that.
04:38But again, you have President Trump in office, who is a real estate developer,
04:43tremendously successful, a builder.
04:46And he has such a keen eye for aesthetics and detail that I think when he first got to Washington,
04:53he looked around and said, what's with all the Soviet architecture?
04:56This is like, this is soul crushing.
05:00And we want to make sure that America's capital is a real gem, not just for the American people,
05:06but for the world.
05:07The world comes here as well.
05:08That's right.
05:08And he said, I'm going to take it upon myself to make all of these renovations,
05:13to build these new structures, and to really beautify the people's capital.
05:18Yeah.
05:19An executive order to get rid of ugly buildings.
05:21I'm so for it.
05:23Good on you, President Trump.
05:25And again, it sends a great message to the world.
05:27And truth and beauty go together.
05:29We love that.
05:30And we appreciate you joining us, giving us the lowdown.
05:32Thank you, Monica.
05:33And helping us break down what our president is doing to make our capital,
05:37our nation's capital beautiful again.
05:39Thanks a lot, Monica.
05:40You bet.
