members just very quickly to pick up on this um in terms of progress in terms of the the new cemetery
00:06
at uh millennium members you will be aware that uh works commenced on site in march of this year
00:14
and some members did avail of a site visit in july to review progress just to update members
00:20
that the project will be substantially complete towards the latter part of this year with all
00:25
works expected to complete fully and early to 2026 um and members uh you may wish to can consider a
00:34
further site visit to review progress in advance of the works completing and just also members to
00:42
update you that as you are aware uh the capacity for new openings at the current city cemetery
00:48
is diminishing on a weekly basis um we believe we have potential capacity within that cemetery
00:55
until approximately spring of 2026 um members uh what we are planning to to do is once the city
01:04
cemetery at millennium is available to offer families the option of having relatives and
01:10
terrified at millennium as a an alternative to the existing city cemetery um and to provide a bit more
01:18
um choice for them so members it's just to note the contents and we're happy to invite and or organize
01:25
a further um visit to the new cemetery for members as well thank you uh thank you karen uh councillor
01:33
rayleigh online yeah thanks chair for bringing me in thanks to karen for that update i suppose just a
01:38
few additional questions um from my point of view first of all i do think it would be useful to do
01:44
an additional site visit for interested members um you know as as we approach the completion of the
01:52
of the new cemetery construction but i would also ask that that type of familiarization visit be extended
01:59
out to uh those uh in the uh the undertaking industry who would also want to be familiar with the sites
02:08
and also if we could have any update or any information in relation to uh other transport providers
02:15
the likes of trans leak the likes of taxi companies etc uh who will uh be dealing with additional uh
02:24
interest from our citizens and traveling out to that location so any update on that would be appreciated
02:30
and then to tag on something chair with your permission onto the item i'm conscious that
02:34
there has been a resurfacing plan of work for a number of of the council cemeteries across the district
02:42
so just wondering if there's any update on the resurfacing plans for some of the other cemeteries
02:47
uh in our council area thanks chair yeah through you chair members certainly um engagement uh with
02:55
funeral directors has been ongoing since this um project began and indeed we intend to do um very
03:02
significant um work with them in terms of preparations for the new cemetery opening and indeed with uh churches
03:10
etc uh in order to make sure that they're fully uh aware of uh the new cemetery and they're as ready as
03:17
we are um for uh the facility opening um we have engaged with translink um and we'll engage again as
03:26
we get closer with other um transport um bodies etc and it's a good point in terms of taxis as well
03:35
um and i'll bring connor in in terms of the resurfacing um thanks um um members previously
03:42
approved um to the capital works program one is to resurface a number of cemeteries so that includes
03:47
city cemetery balayon straban and other works at my castle we have uh and the pros are in the process
03:55
of putting it out to tender at the moment so hopefully that will go within the next number of weeks
03:59
and obviously subject to the procurement process we will commence those works as soon as we can
04:03
thank you chair thank you connor uh conjure mcginley for my good chair and uh consequently took my
04:10
question from me in terms of resurfacing um but thanks for the update on that connor it has something
04:15
that's raised um continuously with us specifically under in the city center in that lower portion
04:20
um where it's it's in really bad condition so um we're looking forward to seeing that resurfaced and
04:25
if it needs to be formally proposed i don't know if it does cairn but in terms of the site visit i was
04:29
there for the last one and i wouldn't mind getting out before um it's open so if you need a proposer
04:34
to get that arranged happy to do so three chair members we can organize that for members thanks
04:41
alderman halsey thank you just struck me there that uh with regard to uh karen had mentioned their
04:49
engagement with churches given the increasing diversity of uh population um has there been any
04:57
engagement with non-christian uh religions as to their requirements when it comes to burials
05:03
yeah there have been uh members and in particular we have a particular section of the the cemetery that
05:10
we've worked with the muslim community on um so that will be accommodated and we've been engaging with
05:15
them in relation to that thank you
