00:01A cemetery in South Kirkby is set to grow after planners approved an extension to provide more
00:07burial space. Wakefield Council has granted permission for South Kirkby Town Council to
00:12expand the Carr Lane Cemetery into neighbouring land to the west. A planning statement said the
00:17existing burial ground is close to capacity and there's an urgent need for additional plots.
00:23The extension would add new footpaths, hedgerows and areas of wildflower planting designed to
00:29mirror the current layout. Planning officers said the schemes are an appropriate development within
00:35the greenbelt and should not harm traffic, visual amenity or the surrounding environment
00:41for local residents in the years to come.
