Drone Didi Kumudini Swain Empowers Women In Tech-Driven Farming

Kumuduni Swain has been working to empower women to adopt technology, improve farm efficiency, and earn a sustainable livelihood.

00:00Kumudini Swain, known as Drone Didi, is revolutionizing farming in Odisha.

00:10She uses drones to spray fertilizers and pesticides on farmlands.

00:16Over 1,000 women have been trained by her to operate drones.

00:22The drone we are using is an agricultural drone used to spray liquid fertilizers on fields.

00:32Where farmers used to carry 20-litre drums to spray fertilizers which took more than half

00:40a day, this drone can spray liquid fertilizer over an acre of land in just six minutes.

00:48This helps to reduce the costs of fertilizer, labor and pollution.

00:56Her work boosts efficiency and reduces farmers' labor and costs.

01:01A Science Post graduate with an MBA, she left her job to pursue farming.

01:07Under the Namo Drone Didi scheme, she bought a Rs. 15 lakh drone.

01:12There is a 15-day training program and a 2-day hand-holding training.

01:19When the Namo Drone Didi scheme was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we also had

01:27In total, I received 22 to 23 days of training.

01:33So far, she has made more than 2,000 women self-reliant through training.
