A soldier killed in a crash during a routine training exercise has been identified as Tulsa Rumney. Multiple investigations have been launched into the roll-over in north Queensland.

00:00The soldier who has died has been identified as seven-year veteran Tulsa
00:07Rumney now the incident happened at a remote training base around 60
00:11kilometres west of Townsville on Wednesday evening now we understand that
00:16an armored personnel carrier the M113 rolled two soldiers were taken to
00:21hospital but released a short time later while tragically a third died that was
00:26Mr Rumney now the Australian Defence Force says it's limited in the information
00:32it can share at this stage given it's an open investigation but we do understand
00:37that Mr Rumney was part of the third brigade he served in the ADF for seven years most
00:42notably in Papua New Guinea and also training Ukrainian troops for the war against Russia
00:47now the third brigade Brigadier Ben McLennan spoke to media yesterday he praised the character
00:54of the deceased and also his commitment to the Defence Force here's a little of what
00:58he had to say he was known as a real character amongst his mates he was also known as someone
01:05who always put his service before himself and his memory will be cherished and honoured
01:12we also heard from Defence Minister Richard Marles he said that while the investigation was undergoing
01:18the M113 would be withdrawn from service now it's important to note that a number of accidents and
01:25incidents involving ADF vehicles have happened in the past few years some of those have been fatal now
01:31Richard Marles said that while the M113 would remain an important part of the ADF it will eventually
01:37be phased out as the government expects delivery of a new Korean made vehicle in 2027.
