A manhunt is underway in Sydney’s west for a Tongan national who allegedly stabbed one border force worker and injured another while being transported to Sydney airport.

00:00Police were called here to this busy road, James Lewis Drive,
00:04the main arterial road through Western Sydney, around 3.40am this morning.
00:09When they arrived, they found two men who had been assaulted.
00:11One had been stabbed in the neck and in the back.
00:14Now, these two men were Border Force contractors
00:17who at the time were transporting a Tongan National
00:19from Billiwood Detention Centre to Sydney Airport.
00:23That man then fled on foot, with police say that the last scene,
00:26the dog squad had last tracked him heading west to Harris Park.
00:30Police say that that man, that 28-year-old Tongan National, is known to them.
00:34They had some advice to the public about potentially approaching him
00:37and what they should do. Here's what they had to say.
00:39The male is known to frequent Mount Pritchard
00:41and other areas in south-west Sydney.
00:44He was last tracked by our dog squad westbound towards Harris Park
00:49from James Lewis Drive.
00:50This was obviously a violent offence that's occurred,
00:53so we do ask members of the public to be wary if they believe they see him
00:57and contact us not to approach him.
00:59So, yeah, that warning very clear there.
