00:00is the militarization of mayor democratic cities has pro-immigrants, communities and organizations
00:05on high alert. New York could be Trump's next target for National Guard deployment.
00:11Our correspondent Henry Camelo tells us more.
00:16The harmony, dynamism and good vibes that many consider to be one of New York's distinctive
00:21features could soon turn into chaos like Los Angeles and Chicago. If Donald Trump's breads
00:27to militarize this city are carried out.
00:39We are on Junction Boulevard, where the largest number of undocumented immigrants in Queens
00:46County are concentrated. This would be the epicenter of the militarization of the National
00:52Guard here in New York City.
01:05There are hundreds of informal businesses on this street, which many undocumented immigrants
01:09have set up with great sacrifice in search of their daily livelihood. Sabina is an example
01:14of this. What time do you get up to work? We get up at 6 in the morning and leave at 10
01:22pm and when we have to go to the market, we finish working here at 10 pm and return at 4
01:27or 5 am. We work more than 22 hours. I don't think anyone works as hard as we do. We work
01:33on the street. We endure the cold, the wind, the heat, all winter, summer, fall, all year
01:38long we are out here, and paying a permit of 25 or $20,000. I think it's time for them
01:43to listen to us, to hear our voice.
01:46All those who buy, are people who come without their papers, are good people. Hard working
01:55people, this would be a disaster. What are you doing in response to the arrival
02:02of the National Guard in New York? We are talking and looking at our allies in
02:11other cities quite frequently, trying to understand what they are going through, the work they
02:16are doing there in those communities. And what we are trying to do at the city level here
02:32is to educate our neighbors, migrants, citizens, everyone, basically, because we are all going
02:39to have a role to play, in terms of what our constitutional rights are. It is estimated that
02:49there are approximately 2 million undocumented immigrants in New York, according to official
02:53data. Their contribution in taxes to the state in 2024, was $3 billion. Business owners believe
03:00that militarization and immigration raids would be devastating for the economy.
03:04The business is completely over. If now, with what is happening here, the business has
03:11not been very strong, it has declined by more than 50 percent. Not to mention the raids
03:15and the National Guard, people is scared because this is an area where there are many immigrants.
03:19And what should be done when the National Guard arrives in New York? Sabina is clear about
03:28this. Well, I have to go back to my country because, my children are now citizens here, and
03:34I am the only one in my family without documents.
03:40But the final word has not yet been spoken, as New York continues to fight back, and this
03:45Saturday will demonstrate all its strength and resistance in the streets when thousands
03:49of people unite to tell Trump, there are no kings here.
