00:00I think, again, going back to the fact that Alexander was, at heart, a romantic and a
00:06lost little boy all his life till he was 32. He was like an animal, you know, he'd rip
00:11your head off and, you know, amazing tactician, strategist, as I said, but I think a certain
00:16part of him never grew past six years old and he never forgot to see certain images
00:23of his mother and his father at each other's throats like jackals. So I think he was looking
00:29for love all his life, everywhere he went, he was looking for love, he was looking, you
00:32know, for people to love him, he wanted to love people.
00:37Hephaestion is a friend that Alexander grew up with all his life and someone who all his
00:44life, from the start to the finish, never had an agenda, was just in the pure sense of the
00:50word, and all the cavalry and all the generals are called companions, you know, it's like
00:54the fellowship, they're companions, but he was the only one that was in the truest sense
00:57of the form of a true companion and a true friend and never asked for anything and just
01:01wanted the best for Alexander.
01:05But I never wrote a script, an incredible script. I never in my life ever read anything
01:11like it as heartbreaking and as dark and as light and as doomed and as full of potential.
01:17It's just heartbreaking. And that's what you have to use. That's the gospel.
01:22It's just so creative, you know. I did two scenes with her. I only had two scenes with
01:30her and they were much more intense than the scenes I had with Val. And it was only the
01:33two of us together in my mother's chambers. And they're fairly heavy scenes with the younger
01:39Alexander, 18 and 19. And it's just great to play with people. I started off on television,
01:46so I got used to hitting my marks every time, saying things the same way and you move on.
01:51But then you find actors like Angelino mixes it up every time, changes it every time, evolves
01:55every time. That's not conscious, it just happens, it just begins to breathe, you know, the scene.
02:00And so to bounce off that was just amazing. It was just amazing.
02:07He's very tempestuous. He's very passionate. These don't sound like flaws, but when you are
02:12the leader of so many people, you know, the king of a country, that can lead to pain and
02:18the downfalling of a lot of your own people. He was very strong-willed. That can lead to the
02:25same, because the strength of Will was always backed by passion. It was hugely spontaneous,
02:37but also destroyed by an insanity that I think was bred of his parents, where he never really
02:44trusted anyone around him, bar Hefeistian.
