00:00and his prowess in battle was legendary. He was a general who led his own men, and he

00:07died young. So those are right there. On top of that, you have a man who supposedly was

00:13extraordinarily conscious for his time. He could be extraordinarily gentle and extraordinarily

00:20ferocious. So you had all the makings of a fiery hero. The movie has shaped a tragedy

00:27from his life in the sense that we took the more unknown, vulnerable parts of Alexander.

00:37I believe there were many. I think that he had many shadow areas, and we touched on those.

00:41So we gave the movie, we tried to give the movie a blend of light and dark. And I think

00:46that's the key to the men. And I think that contrary to popular mythology, he was a human

00:53man. He had flaws, and he had human cravings and desires. Most of the fighting and the

01:00scrapping was done by Colin, and he was a great scrapper. And he muscularized himself. He

01:05built himself up, gained weight, and fought like a tiger. I mean, like a lion, not like

01:12a tiger. I saw him in the dust. I saw him on horses. I saw him on foot. I offered to replace

01:18him. But he wanted to hang in there and do his own stunts as much as possible.

01:25What I like about Angelina, unlike, you see, let's say, like a lot of modern actresses,

01:33they play the middle more. With her, you have more the Bette Davis tradition. She goes for

01:41it in a strong way, in a determined way. And it's very rare to see that with young actresses.

01:46They don't have that confidence. But she, coming from that family, being young at the profession,

01:51has developed a confidence, a strength that was just right for Olympias. Perfect. They

01:58couldn't ask for a better match. But you know what? He loved it. And I loved working

02:05with him again. Because when you watch his footage over again, he gives you so much subtlety

02:11in every time. And you know, Colin came to watch him. Every young actor in London on the set

02:17came to watch him. They admired him so much.
