03:13Khi đã đến nhà, tôi không biết if there was a shooter đang ở nhà.
03:20Tôi đã mấy gun at the ready.
03:30Khi I walked in, the first thing I noticed was I could smell the blood.
03:38There was blood everywhere.
03:43I noticed a woman laying on her back.
03:51There was a puppet next to her.
04:02Laying there next to her was an older Vietnamese man, probably in his 40s.
04:07Laying face down, hands tied behind his back, appeared to be shot in the back of the head.
04:13And the body next to him appeared to be a young boy.
04:18He was face down also with his hands tied behind his back.
04:20I proceeded to where the bedrooms were located.
04:28The house appeared to be very disheveled.
04:30It was a mess.
04:31It was a mess.
04:38There was a bedroom.
04:39The door was open.
04:44In the back bedroom, there were two bodies of a boy and a girl.
04:48I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
04:49I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
04:51They were both riddled with bullets shot numerous times.
04:55The little boy looked like he was trying to cover his sister as they were being shot.
05:00That was heroic to me.
05:05I have two little boys that were about the same age.
05:07And that's all I could think about.
05:10Is how he put, he, at 10 years old, risked his life to save his sister.
05:17I was a detective working for the city of San Bernardino Police Department in the homicide unit.
05:33And when we got to the front yard, I knew something bad had occurred in that house.
05:39And I kind of even questioned myself if I really wanted to go in and see what was going on.
05:58When I first walked in and started looking,
06:02one of the things we did notice was blood prints, fingerprints from a small child.
06:09and smears along the walls, lower to the ground so we knew they were not from adults.
06:16We knew the three-year-old boy who went to the hospital had wandered around all night.
06:24You know, you start thinking, what does this kid have to suffer when he saw this by himself in there for probably eight to ten hours
06:34before somebody showed up to save him?
06:39When we got closer to looking at the bodies, we noticed a lot of different things.
06:45Dad had cuts on his neck, which were unusual.
06:50The first time I looked at the mother when she was lying on her back in the living room,
07:00what I saw up her nose, I knew did not belong there.
07:04It was kind of a bluish-colored substance, consistent with what I thought was toothpaste.
07:13There was also what appeared to be shampoo that had been poured into the eyes.
07:18In the same room, we found an empty shampoo bottle.
07:21I've worked a lot of murders, a lot of death investigations, and I've never seen anything like this, ever.
07:27We found that Lam had been wearing a jade and diamond pendant that apparently had been taken from her.
07:42We thought maybe it was taken as a trophy because some serial killers do that.
07:51When we got to the kitchen area, I saw all the pots and pans were removed from cabinets.
07:57From the countertops, they were all laid on the floor, nice neat little piles.
08:04This was not normal.
08:09That house on Elm Street was a horror scene.
08:11As we worked the scene, neighbors were interviewed by some of the detectives.
08:24What we discovered was the Wynn family consisted of six people.
08:28The father, Henry Wynn, was 44 years old.
08:31The mother, Tren Nguyen, was 35.
08:34The daughter, Doan, was 15 years old.
08:36Daniel, the oldest son, was 11 years old.
08:38And the middle son, David, was 10 years old.
08:43And Dennis was three and a half the time he was shot.
08:48He was their only surviving victim out of this incident.
08:52I think Dennis had dropped down between the beds and hid in the back bedroom.
08:58He'd caught a couple stray rounds, one in the hand and one in the arm.
09:01We talked to the neighbors and they said that dad ran a landscaping business.
09:09Mom ran a sewing business where she made uniforms for Vietnamese restaurants.
09:16Nobody was aware of any threats to the victim family either.
09:19I found out about it just by working the beat, as they say.
09:27It just had all the makings of an interesting story for a crime reporter.
09:32It was a family that was attacked inside their home and it was terrible and frightening.
09:38San Bernardino is about 60, 70 miles due east of downtown Los Angeles.
09:45And there's a couple hundred thousand people.
09:48The Nguyen family lived on kind of the center part of San Bernardino
09:53in a predominantly Vietnamese and Southeast Asian community.
09:55Detectives continued to do a neighborhood canvas, knocking on doors, asking questions.
10:06Do you see anything? Do you hear anything? Notice anything unusual?
10:10But it was predominantly a non-English speaking community.
10:14Most of them spoke Vietnamese.
10:16And so there was just a language barrier, number one.
10:19And then there were the cultural aspects of not understanding the way the police worked in this country.
10:23I was lucky enough to find Peter Lee, the community leader for that Vietnamese area.
10:31So we made him the focus point so he could provide us what we needed.
10:37The Vietnamese people, they tend to afraid the police.
10:41They don't like the police because they had memory back home.
10:45They don't follow the law. They can do whatever they want.
10:47So I had to encourage them to speak with the police when something happened.
10:53Everybody in the neighborhood is shot and scared.
10:57So at that point, I started getting phone calls from other agencies.
11:00And they were telling me toothpaste and shampoo in the eyes was a Vietnamese torture technique that was found during the Vietnam War.
11:13They'd shoved toothpaste up their nose, dump shampoos in the eyes to try and irritate them.
11:19So we knew then for sure that that's what it was. It was torture.
11:23I just couldn't understand why someone would hurt someone like that.
11:28Everybody in the neighborhood down there by the Wynn's home was frightened.
11:32We couldn't answer the questions. Who did this? Why did it happen?
11:37They scared that the killer could go after them.
11:41I think that whoever do that is evil.
11:44We never think that what happened on Amstreet can happen here in this country.
11:50But it's happened anyway.
11:52The violence we saw in that house, we knew that this crime was sent as a warning.
11:56More violence was coming because we knew this killer was going to continue doing exactly what they were doing.
12:19On August 9, 1995, the Wynn family was shot and killed inside their house.
12:24The only surviving member of this family massacre was three-year-old Dennis.
12:31We had a detective who worked the Crimes Against Children Division who went to the hospital to try and talk with Dennis to see if we could get any type of statement from him.
12:48Detectives told us that Dennis, he was experiencing a lot of fear.
12:52He was afraid of loud noises.
12:55He just kept repeating that he saw blood. He saw blood. He was clearly traumatized.
13:05Any detective was smart enough to know when not to question and when to question.
13:15He made the determination that this was not the time to be pushing anything because he could still see the fear in his kid's face.
13:22He was scared to death.
13:23When we originally started the investigation, we had no information whatsoever.
13:41The neighbors were not speaking. Our eyewitness, Dennis, wasn't talking.
13:48But then we got a phone call from the crime lab.
13:52The criminalist showed me a very unique primer to only one gun, Glock handgun.
13:58So that was our first big break. We knew Glock handguns had been used in this homicide.
14:06The next day, we get a phone call from Sacramento Sheriff's Department.
14:10He says, hey, we have this home invasion and we submitted casings and have them matched against your case and we got a match.
14:18I jumped out of my chair while I'm talking on the phone. We're back in business. We got a lead.
14:25And one of the detectives up there explained to me their murder had occurred about two weeks before our case in San Bernardino.
14:33They had a mom and pop business. They were running out of their house.
14:36He told me that on the day of their murder, the daughter of the victims in San Bernardino was sitting on the front steps of her apartment.
14:53She saw two men come up the stairs with guns in their hands and it scared the bejesus out of her.
14:59She yelled to her mother, shut the door, shut the door.
15:02The mother ran to the door to try and shut it.
15:25After the suspects entered, they shot mom in a leg.
15:29Dad grabbed the chair, tried to hit one of the suspects, gets shot.
15:36The grandfather's there. He gets shot in the head.
15:40They're both dead.
15:44The daughter said that the only way that mom survived was because the sirens that were in the background.
15:52They knew they'd been had and they got out of there as fast as they could.
15:55We started to realize that this wasn't just one lone individual that was committing these crimes.
16:04It was a group of individuals that were acting in a pack mentality.
16:10And they were acting together to target these unfortunate Vietnamese families.
16:15Based on the information we were building from these two cases, I realized that DCIs are progressing at a much more violent rate than we expected.
16:26These guys, if they didn't get stopped, God knows how many more people they would kill.
16:37We needed that information.
16:39And the only witness was Dennis, a three-year-old.
16:42So we knew that we needed to try and get what he saw and what he felt.

27:09And he was able to see that there were two men.
27:16One was a bigger man and one was smaller.
27:20He saw guns, they were black and shiny.
27:24He saw his parents and their hands were tied together.
27:32Joe saw his mom, wanted to help her.
27:38And as he started to get closer, he saw his mom's eyes get wide and she started shaking her head.
27:45This scared him, he backed off.
27:51He heard loud noises, gunshots, and ran behind the couch.
28:08And he grabbed the pillow and he put it over his face because he was afraid.
28:15He just continued to hold that pillow over his face because it was so loud.
28:21He sat there until sunrise.
28:28And that's when he went to his neighbor's house to go get help.
28:36One of the detectives placed this series of photographs out for Joe to try to identify who one of these suspects were.
28:45And Joe was able to point at one of these photographs and identify the big man that had hurt his dad.
28:54That big man turned out to be the same man that had ripped the necklace off of Dennis's mom, Ron Chun.
29:09There's no doubt in my mind that the main man was Ron Chun.
29:14After getting the information on Spokane that occurred on July 10th of 1995, we found out that the ballistics did match what happened on July 27th in Sacramento.
29:25And those matched the ballistics from August 9th in San Bernardino.
29:29So we definitely connected all three cases together at that point.
29:33But we still didn't have any other named suspects.
29:38I called Peter Lee.
29:40He told me that he would put his nose out there and see what he could come up with.
29:44Then I got a phone call from Peter and he asked if I could come by his office.
30:09Peter Lee told me that there was a young lady that I needed to talk to
30:12that had information about the home invasion on Elm Street.
30:16And this young lady named Carol Tran.
30:21Carol Tran had lived about a block away from the Wynn family.
30:25We ended up eventually finding her at her residence.
30:32The person who opened the door was Nancy Tran, Carol's mother.
30:37had looked inside the house and saw Dennis inside covered in blood.
30:43We picked Carol Tran up and brought her to the station.
30:46She was definitely scared.
30:51She was very reluctant to tell us the whole story.
30:54But we needed her information.
30:56Can you tell me what happened?
30:57When she started telling us what had happened, I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
31:11When we interviewed Carol Tran, she was very reluctant to tell us the whole story.
31:30But she knew Run Chun and his gang known as TRG.
31:39TRG, or Tiny Rascals gang, was a violent immigrant gang back in the mid-90s.
31:45We found out that Run Chun spent some time in Long Beach area, which is where TRG formed.
31:50And that's how TRG ended up in San Bernardino.
31:54Carol Tran was not really a member of the gang.
31:57She was, I would call her, an associate.
32:00Hey, tell me what happened.
32:02Did they come to your house?
32:03They didn't come to my house for a while.
32:06Have you had any relationship with any of these guys?
32:08No.
32:09Did you talk to these guys that carved up before you learned what you're in the book to do?
32:13They're all right, go back and run with them.
32:15She proved to be the ultimate source of information.
32:21She identified by name everyone involved in that incident that night.
32:27Vin Scrappy Tran, CJ Evans, and their leader, Run Chun.
32:33I want my own one, Peter.
32:34I want to know what I'm saying.
32:35He's a big mess.
32:36He's a big mess.
32:37I said, he doesn't have to be the right to go to the door.
32:38The right to go to the door.
32:39Here's what I made with the David, Ron Chun.
32:40He could be a big mess.
32:41He can create a big mess.
32:43He's a big mess.
32:45He had to leave and take it from there.
32:46We had to be a big mess.
32:47It's a big mess.
32:49Just keep wearing a big mess.
32:53We had to get a big mess.
32:55He walked out the door.
32:58Ah, so when I was gonna test the door,

34:17Để trở thành công, chúng ta đã đến với C.J. Evans
34:24Và đi ra đồ của mình đã nói về vụ vụ.
34:31Do you know about that incident?
34:33I need to have that one more time for me, too,
34:35just to kind of lock that down for me so fast.
34:38He was involved in what happened.
34:41Will he be present when that shooting took place?
34:45Okay.
34:45Để tôi nói rằng Caryl Tran, Run Choon, Scraffy, Vin Tran, và C.J. himself
34:55all went to the house on Elm Street.
35:15Run Choon, and Scraffy, each had a gun.
35:21The family told them, initially, they didn't have any money.
35:28That's when Run Choon grabbed a knife and started torturing Dad, cutting on his neck, to make
35:33him give up whatever he had.
35:37I will never know for myself what happened in the house.
35:44The only thing you're worried about is the toothpaste?
35:47I think that the little boy and puppy did it.
35:53Because none of us would...
35:55If you're trying to tell me you think the little boy did that, I don't think so.
35:58Because I know.
35:59All right.
36:00Because I know for the fact that none of them were...
36:02I know for the fact that I didn't do it and that I know nothing about it.
36:06You told me you saw Shaka shoot Dad, you saw him shoot the boy next to Dad, right?
36:13As far as I see him shoot Dad.
36:15Yeah.
36:16Go back to my mom.
36:17We shot her.
36:18Didn't you say somebody was shooting in that direction?
36:21I'm...
36:22Scraffy.
36:23I see him start shooting me and my daughter.
36:28CJ said and Joan told him to go back outside, so he took no part in what was going on inside
36:34as far as the shootings went.
36:36Yeah.
36:37How much time do you think you spent in the house yourself?
36:41Well, Lord, not even 10 minutes.
36:43I mean, what's the total length of time everybody was there?
36:46Well, it's 10 minutes.
36:49After we'd spoken with CJ Evans...
36:52My partner and I sat down with Ron Chum.
36:59The police needed a monster to speak to them.
37:02The leader, Ron Chum.
37:04Okay, so you're here in Sacramento now.
37:06It's you, Scraffy...
37:08CJ.
37:09And CJ, yes.
37:10Okay.
37:11Now, I want to kind of go into some events that occurred back in the second week of August.
37:18Okay?
37:19Around August 9th, August 10th.
37:20You know, we believe that you have knowledge about the family thing more than what you say
37:24you do.
37:25What?
37:26Family.
37:27People that you know, or they say that you're involved with them in those shootings.
37:31Carol's saying she was there.
37:32Mm-hmm.
37:33Scraffy is saying he was there.
37:34CJ is saying he was there.
37:35Mm-hmm.
37:36Okay.
37:37Wouldn't talk.
37:38Didn't care.
37:39Had nothing to say.
37:41I know for a fact that down at this house on Elm Street, Carol went to the door and three
37:48guys followed Carol up and stood off to the side behind the bushes.
37:51Mm-hmm.
37:52And I know two guys had guns.
37:53Mm-hmm.
37:54And the first person, everybody wanted to say, one of them LSU.
37:57Yeah.
37:58I figured that.
37:59Okay.
38:00He was very cocky, very smart-ass type personality.
38:04All these people involved know that they're going to get some type of punishment for what
38:11they did.
38:12And the only one who was involved in it, and I believe you were.
38:15Okay.
38:16Who hasn't admitted any involvement, like you're the angel.
38:20Okay.
38:21Okay.
38:22It's you.
38:23So I suppose to stand up and say, okay, I killed other people.
38:27No, you're supposed to tell us what you did and who you killed or if you shot anybody.
38:32Okay.
38:33You're not taking care of business.
38:35You're letting their story lock you up.
38:38Mm.
38:39Okay.
38:40Oh, their story's already locking me up.
38:42I don't see that.
38:44I tried to explain what he was looking at with multiple murder cases, life in prison.
38:51And he just kind of looked me in the face and said, I'm not worried.
38:55I knew this was going nowhere and I'd never get nothing out of him.
38:59And I'm thinking to myself, why do I not want to reach across the table and beat the living
39:04out of him?
39:05Because this guy's got me pissed.
39:07And I knew that that was the point where I had to back out and say enough's enough.
39:12But anyways, Carol Tran was charged with five counts of first degree murder.
39:28She agreed to testify on a plea deal of five counts of second degree murder.
39:37C.J. trả lời 5 đơn giảm, 25 to life.
39:51Tại lửa, Bung Chân trả lời, bọn Quang chân trả lời,
39:54giống như vọng, như vọng, như vọng, như vọng.
39:58Tại lời, như vọng, như vọng, như vọng.
40:00Tôi bị bắt đầu vào because, obviously, tôi tôi first on scene.
40:03And I gave my story, got a little emotional on the scene.
40:08I was staring at the face of evil.
40:12The jury found Runcheon guilty, and they came back with a death sentence.
40:18He's still on death row.
40:21Once we left, I went home, and the first thing I did is hug my boys, both of them.
40:27You want to think that something like that would never happen, but it happened.
40:34You look at your family, and you think, what would you do if that happened to your family?
40:42Runcheon family come here for a better life.
40:44They had no idea what would happen to the family.
40:49It's heartbreaking.
40:53To this day, I still wake up in the middle of the night thinking about the house on Elm Street.
40:58And I've seen a lot of murders.
40:59But I'd never seen anything like that since, and I'm thankful for that.
41:11When I arrived at the house on Elm Street, something wasn't right.
41:16The victim was naked as can be.
41:19He had something very unusual on the body.
41:22It was like it had become its own urban legend.
41:29It was like it had become its own urban legend.
41:29W disorderly.
41:29How did it happen?
41:36What do you remember?
41:37Here, the patronage was naked as if it was a human.
41:39What do you remember?
41:40It was like what happened to me around me.
41:41I'm found my completely vision for my family.
41:42At home, an מאוד eyes off.
41:43But some kids are the ones who are still dead.
41:45The patrons become better than the camera
41:48as if they don't sleep at school.
41:50How did they ever solve fixing this with that?
41:52You know that they weren't getting figured?
