A fierce political war of words erupted in the Tamil Nadu Assembly between Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami over the deadly Karur stampede. Defending his government, Chief Minister Stalin said the incident 'has shaken the conscience of the state'. In a detailed statement, Stalin expressed condolences for the 41 lives lost and outlined the government's response, asserting that people's lives were of utmost importance. However, the session was marked by high drama as Palaniswami accused the DMK government of negligence and presenting a one-sided narrative. The AIADMK alleged that the tragedy could have been averted with adequate security and subsequently staged a walkout from the assembly in protest.
