Bolivia is experiencing the final days of election campaigning ahead of the unprecedented presidential runoff election to be held on October 19. After a long election process, the opposition tandems led by the right wing candidates Rodrigo Paz Pereira and Jorge "Tuto" Quiroga are facing off to elect the president and vice president. In the wake of the ruling movement's defeat in the August elections, the candidates ended their campaigns with conflicting economic proposals. A prohibition on alcohol is decreed from 12:00 am local time on October 17, until the morning of Monday, October 20. On election day, it is prohibited to carry weapons, hold public events, or transport voters. This balotage is a mechanism introduced in the 2009 constitution that is being activated for the first time in the history of the country.
