00:00I'm here in Washington, D.C. meeting with lots of members of Congress.
00:03I'm going to encourage them to stay involved in global health,
00:07saving millions of children's lives with a small part of the budget.
00:11When you ask people how much the Porn Aid budget is,
00:14they often will say 5 or 10 percent.
00:16You know, it's less than 1 percent.
00:18Even so, what we do give, it adds up to a lot.
00:21You save tens of millions of lives.
00:24Unfortunately, early this year, most of the people involved with that
00:28who worked for USAID were all let go,
00:31and the money was largely cut off, resulting in a lot of people dying.
00:36A small part of it's been restored,
00:38but not enough to avoid mothers giving HIV to their babies,
00:42people not being diagnosed with tuberculosis,
00:45kids not getting bed nets to protect them.
00:48We're trying to make sure that money that Congress said
00:51should be spent on these things, that that actually gets spent.
00:55You know, I'd argue that the 1 percent is worthwhile,
00:58not just on moral grounds, but very practical grounds
01:00of keeping America strong and protecting us from diseases,
01:05helping people avoid the deaths, avoiding parents dying of HIV,
01:10getting out of the poverty trap.
01:11That 1 percent makes all the difference, and we should be proud of it.
