Experience Meets Youth: Day 2 Delivers Thrills in Lima

Day 2 in Lima saw a powerful mix of champions and rising stars. Jessica Klimkait claimed her first Grand Prix gold at –63 kg, Daniel Cargnin triumphed dramatically, Ida Eriksson completed her medal set, and Mihajlo Simin struck gold in his debut final.

00:00Welcome back to Peru on the second day of Lima's inaugural Grand Prix event, held in
00:06the Coliseo Eduardo Dibos.
00:09Once again, the crowd were here in strong support of the Pan-American contingent.
00:15In the under 63kgs, former world champion Jessica Klimkate showed her continued dominance
00:20in her new weight category, catching her opponent with a trademark drop Sori Tsurikamigoshi.
00:28Her first Grand Prix gold in the under 63kgs.
00:32I'm pretty happy with my performance.
00:37It's been a while since I competed, so it's nice to kind of go through each match, feeling
00:43like I was sticking to my plan and it was working, yeah, so I feel good.
00:48IJF referee director, Miss Tina Tersteniak, was on hand to award the medals.
00:54In the under 73kgs, Daniel Kagnin of Brazil was to take on Dayan Boulimtafez of France.
01:00Boulimtafez, having knocked out the current Olympic champion in the preliminaries, would
01:04be no walkover.
01:10But with only seconds to go, a yuko score won Kagnin the title.
01:17A dramatic ending, which sent the Brazilian fans wild.
01:25He was awarded his medal by Peruvian Olympic Committee Deputy Treasurer, Mr. Edgar Camargo.
01:46In the under 70kg category, Ida Eriksson of Sweden was chasing the final piece of her
01:50Grand Prix medal set.
01:52With bronze and silver already won, she needed gold.
01:56A single yuko was enough to claim it.
02:05Mission accomplished.
02:10She was awarded her medal by IJF Sport director, Mr. Kosei Inouye.
02:16In the under 81kgs, Mihailo Simin of Serbia met Johan Silot of the USA in the final.
02:23In his debut Grand Prix, Simin secured his victory on the ground, successfully holding
02:28down his opponent and giving him his first ever Grand Prix gold medal at his first attempt.
02:38The medals were awarded by IJF Referee Director, Mr. Raul Camacho Perez.
02:47It's been a day of inspiring judo with some incredible techniques.
02:51And with the heavyweights up next, the throws are about to get even bigger.
