00:00Housing Minister David Lee remains adamant that he will be vindicated following his rearrest on charges of misbehavior in public office and a conspiracy to defraud.
00:11He told the media that his resignation has not been requested and he has no plans to step down.
00:17Today, Senior Counsel Larry Lalla calls the situation unfortunate, insisting that stepping aside would be the right course of action.
00:25I think it sets an unfortunate precedent in our country. It sets the bar too low for our country.
00:35I think persons who hold public office on trust for the people should be above and beyond reproach.
00:46And this precedent that is being set by the Prime Minister, by Minister Lee, by the UNC government, is very, very unfortunate.
00:56The Senior Counsel tells TV6 that common sense must prevail, emphasising that no one should stay in office while facing criminal charges.
01:05No instance where a Minister of Government charged with a criminal offence involving, as this does, the revenue and tax exemptions in relation to the motor vehicle that he brought in,
01:24and therefore being directly related to the performance of his functions as a Member of Parliament,
01:30that, you know, someone would see it fit to hold on to office.
