00:00
We left off talking about Clemson and Boston College.
00:03
Clemson is only serious coach.
00:05
They're 21-9-2 against the Eagles
00:08
and have been riding a 12-game winning streak
00:11
heading into this weekend.
00:13
We saw this line open up on Sunday night.
00:16
Clemson, a 14-and-a-half-point road favorite.
00:19
We're now seeing 14 settle in across multiple books.
00:23
Boston College started fast.
00:24
They've lost now three straight, got blown out by Pittsburgh.
00:28
This is a step-up spot potentially to make some noise at home.
00:33
How do you see this game playing out?
00:35
Yeah, I think Clemson's going to continue to rise.
00:37
I think they're going to play well,
00:38
and I think they're going to get after Boston College.
00:41
I really do.
00:42
Boston College's quarterback may be the problem,
00:44
may not be the problem.
00:46
They haven't rushed for over 100 yards in their last four games.
00:49
They had, what, 27 yards rushing last week.
00:52
And although they still throw the ball very well,
00:55
people are going to let you throw it between the 20s.
00:57
You can have all the yardage you want,
00:59
but if you can't run the ball well,
01:01
you're going to get stuck in the red zone,
01:02
and that's what's happening to Boston College.
01:05
They have not got that worked out yet.
01:06
Until they can get some running game to go with that,
01:09
they're going to have a problem in a game like this.
01:12
Clemson, I'll say this.
01:13
They're going to be able to beat Boston College,
01:15
but they will throw it for a ton.
01:17
When Clubnick's hot, he's going to make a ton of yards.
01:20
But what I don't understand is when they were winning so easily last week,
01:24
why didn't they get more rushing yards?
01:26
You know, last week, 28 to nothing after one quarter,
01:30
and they still did not rush for 100 yards.
01:33
As a head coach, I would have said,
01:34
hey, let's go out and pound the ball.
01:36
Let's go get some rushing yards and give us confidence that we can run it.
01:39
That's not going to,
01:40
I don't think it's going to affect this game that much,
01:42
but it affects Clemson's ability to come back and be a contender.
01:46
Too many teams are going to let you throw between the 20s,
01:49
and it's not going to win football games without a running attack.
01:53
Well, you mentioned Cade Clubnick.
01:54
In the loss to Syracuse, he had one of his best performances of the season.
01:58
He throws for 363 total yards, three touchdowns, one interception.
02:03
A lot of that came in catch-up and garbage time in the fourth quarter,
02:07
but nonetheless, he looked more consistent.
02:10
It carried through last week,
02:11
one of his best completion percentages against North Carolina.
02:15
They were a big road favorite in that matchup by 14 points.
02:19
He puts up 254 passing yards, completes 91% of his passes,
02:24
four touchdowns and no interceptions.
02:27
And oh, by the way,
02:28
they're going up against the Boston College secondary
02:30
that has allowed opposing quarterbacks coach
02:33
to complete over 62% of their passes.
02:36
They've given up 11 passing touchdowns
02:38
and have only forced two interceptions.
02:41
It looks like Clemson could potentially roll through the air on Saturday.
02:46
Yeah, I was almost trying to talk about two different things.
02:48
They're going to roll.
02:49
They're going to throw for yards.
02:50
This team cannot stop them.
02:52
Clubnick is hot.
02:53
He can throw that football.
02:55
I guess I'm talking about Clemson.
02:56
Yes, they can win this game.
02:57
He can throw for a ton of yardage,
02:59
and he probably will against Boston College.
03:02
But I'm going to say this.
03:02
As they go down the road and they play better teams,
03:05
they try to build their program back,
03:07
they better understand you can't just throw it every time
03:10
just because your quarterback has a hot head.
03:13
You've got to be able to run that football.
03:15
But you're right.
03:16
This week, I don't think there's any question.
03:18
As hot as the quarterback has been,
03:20
as bad as the other team has been playing four straight losses,
03:24
I've got them to cover the points and win this one.
03:28
Yeah, and they've lost three straight in the conference,
03:31
four straight overall.
03:32
It happened in week number two where they went toe-to-toe
03:35
with Michigan State.
03:36
They lose that ballgame 42-40,
03:38
and it really set the precedent to what we see.
03:41
The previous three losses, though, Coach,
03:43
have been very competitive outside of the blowout loss last week.
03:47
As a six-and-a-half-point road underdog against Pittsburgh,
03:51
you would expect a better effort.
03:52
What could Bill O'Brien do?
03:54
I just think momentum-wise or just getting the troops rallied here
03:58
to potentially show up and go toe-to-toe to maybe cover this number
04:03
on Saturday night.
04:05
Well, I've said it three times now.
04:07
They've got to mix the running game in.
04:10
They've got to have balance.
04:11
Not only does it make your throwing game more successful downfield,
04:17
but it also keeps the ball out of the hands of the defense,
04:20
out of the other team.
04:21
And so I think that's what's wrong with you.
04:23
Look at the lack of running in the last game.
04:26
They've made the games competitive.
04:27
They've got a pretty good football team,
04:29
but they're one-dimensional on offense,
04:32
and I just don't think you can go down the road and win those games
04:35
because when you get closer to the goal line,
04:37
you get to the red zone.
04:39
The defense condenses, and it's tougher to throw the football,
04:43
and you've got to run against good people down there.
04:46
And so far, they have not been able to do it.
