00:00Also, looking at the Heisman Trophy race, we know about Arch Manning and some of the other quarterbacks in the SEC and Big Ten.
00:07But, Coach, you mentioned Cade Klemnick and his odds.
00:10He's got a week one battle against LSU and Garrett Nussmeyer.
00:14Assuming that Cade Klemnick and the Clemson Tigers win that game at 9-1, not bad odds to start the year.
00:22Klemnick's right there.
00:23Again, you know, we've got to remember about the Heisman.
00:26It's almost a publicity gimmick as it is the best player because you've got to be preferably a quarterback on a winning team that has good statistics.
00:36If you're going to be another position, you've got to do something crazy.
00:40You've got to play two positions or both ways or have some phenomenal highlight films.
00:44But Cade Klemnick right now, he's on a great team, Clemson, got a chance to go all the way, and his statistics have been phenomenal.
00:51I think if you look at the NFL draft pick, you see Klemnick, you see him up there at the very top, Nussmeyer, maybe Alar at Penn State.
00:59He is a great athlete because he's on that list of NFL prospects as the first guys taken, and he's on a team that can win the championship.
01:07So, when you look at Heisman hopefuls, you've got to look at, obviously, you've got to look at the position that's being played, quarterback mainly.
01:14But also, can they be a winning – is he going to be on a championship-caliber team?
01:19Is he going to take them to deep in the playoffs?
01:22And is he going to have some highlights on ESPN?
01:25How important is the rushing attack to Klemnick's success?
01:29And I bring that up because, you know, when we talk about Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson and those national championship teams,
01:37Clemson was averaging around 230, 240 rushing yards per game.
01:41They haven't been over 200 yards per game from an average perspective in basically four or five seasons.
01:49They averaged $1.73 on the ground last year.
01:51That was one of their better efforts dating back to 2020.
01:55If they can't run the football, can Klemnick solely win games with his arm?
02:02Down the road, as you get to tougher competition, either the teams like LSU that you open up with,
02:08or when you get to the playoffs, you're going to play teams with just as much talent.
02:13And if you can't be balanced on offense, your quarterback is going to be throwing the football when he doesn't want to throw it,
02:19throw it when it's a long-yarded situation.
02:21So you've got to get back to running the football like you used to.
02:24Tony Elliott was the coordinator back then before he moved to Virginia, and it was a big part of his game plan.
02:30Sometimes when you get a coordinator, he may only want to run it 160 yards.
02:34The key is that when you have to run it, when it's important to run the football, you run it.
02:39You don't just put some yardage on at the end of the game after you get up 21 points,
02:43and you throw about 60 or 70 yards of rushing in the fourth quarter.
02:47You can see through that.
02:48That's not how you do it.
02:49You've got to run when you need to mix it up, and you need to mix it up in that first half.
02:54Yeah, absolutely.
02:55And we'll see how the Clemson Tigers have success against a revamped LSU Tigers defense week number one in Death Valley.
03:02The other quarterback we talked about was Carson Beck.
03:05I think, which Carson Beck are we getting, Coach?
03:08Are we getting the Carson Beck that basically won 29 or 30 games with the Georgia Bulldogs a couple of years ago?
03:14Or are we going to get the Carson Beck that threw for 175 yards on the road and three interceptions in the win versus Texas,
03:21and the loss against Ole Miss only threw for 186 yards with no touchdowns and an interception?
03:28That is the question regarding the Miami Hurricanes this year.
03:32We talked about just a minute ago with running attack.
03:35I was at the Ole Miss game.
03:37They couldn't run the football, and Georgia last year did not run as well as they need to run it,
03:43and so he got put into a lot of situations where he had to throw it on our yardage.
03:47They had to throw too much in the second half.
03:49We can't scramble out of trouble as much,
03:51so I think with his success at Miami is going to depend about them having a strong running attack,
03:56and I think with their offensive line, one of the strengths of their football team,
03:59they should have a good running attack.
04:01That should help him be a better quarterback.
04:03A lot of talking in Tallahassee with Thomas Costellanos taking over from moving over for Boston College.
04:12Can he be the real deal, and can he stun Alabama week one?
04:16I tell you, this is one of the more interesting selections in the portal is Tommy Costellanos at Florida State.
04:24You know, DJU, that didn't work out, and so Norvell now has to turn and get another quarterback,
04:31and Tommy's got a little bit, there's a little bit of conflict there.
04:34Is his attitude good?
04:36Is he a guy that the team can count on?
04:39He has a little bit of that, but I think when you bring in Gus Malzone to run the offense,
04:44and he works with the quarterbacks, I think Costellanos is the perfect quarterback for him.
04:49The dual threat, he runs probably a little better than he throws, but that'll fit Gus's offense just fine.
04:54I think the key is not just quarterback with Florida State.
04:57It's quarterback, offensive coordinator.
04:59Can that combination give them the change-up on their offense?
