As the proud mum of a beautiful daughter, International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th hits close to home for me. This powerful UN-designated day shines a spotlight on girls' rights worldwide and the unique, often overlooked challenges they face every day.

For 2025, the theme—"The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis"—captures how girls are stepping up as bold leaders and agents of change, even in the midst of global chaos and hardship.

Down under in Australia, trailblazers like journalist and World Vision Ambassador Melissa Doyle AM are leading the charge. Teaming up with World Vision's vital programs, Melissa's amplifying voices to shield girls from violence and exploitation while unlocking doors to education and security.

I'm joining that chorus: Let's rally behind initiatives that deliver real, lasting impact. If you can, sponsor a girl through World Vision's child sponsorship—it's one of the smartest ways to fuel her dreams. These sponsorships power community-driven projects that deliver the basics: clean water, healthcare, and top-notch education. Arm a girl with learning, and you're handing her the tools for a life of choices—strong, healthy, and safe, far from threats like child marriage. And the ripple effect? World Vision's model means every sponsored child lifts up four more in their community!

On this special day, let's amplify our voices together. Hit play on this video, drop a like if it resonates, share it across Dailymotion to spread the word, and push for policies that lift girls up. Every girl deserves to chase her potential and spark the change she envisions. Dive deeper into World Vision's life-changing work and girl sponsorship options at their official site.

00:00So I wanted to jump on today and talk about a very special day. Today October 11 is the
00:07International Day of the Girl Child and of course the day has come to my attention because I'm the
00:13proud mum of a girl. So the International Day of the Girl Child was started by the United Nations
00:19General Assembly and it's to recognise and acknowledge the rights of the girl and also
00:24the unique challenges faced by girls all around the world and this year's theme is the girl I am
00:32the change I lead and that really struck a chord in me too because my beautiful daughter I see what
00:39she does at school and thankfully we live in a country where girls are encouraged to you know
00:46really come into their own in terms of leadership and reaching their potential but the reason this
00:52day especially came to my attention is because I saw it on the Today Show and they had a journalist
00:58called Melissa Doyle who was a breakfast tv host for their rival actually Channel 7's Sunrise
01:05and she is raising awareness for this day in conjunction with World Vision and they're really
01:13wanting to raise awareness for like I said the day does acknowledge the rights of a girl and the
01:20unique challenges faced by girls and they're raising awareness for the unique challenges faced by girls
01:25in developing countries and some of the statistics were really quite shocking like especially with
01:31education like in some of those developing countries I think the stats were that only about 50 percent of
01:38girls are even finishing primary school so can you imagine what sort of then how that impacts the choices
01:44that they have then for the rest of their life so um that's so she's raising a lot of awareness for that
01:51she's also calling for people if they're able to to sponsor a girl through World Vision because if you sponsor
01:58a girl you can actually make a huge difference to her life like you can ensure that she can finish school
02:04and then she's obviously got a lot of choices there for her life and what she would like to do
02:09so um look today i just you know and then because i found out about the day just through television that
02:17was just running in the background that's why i thought i'd jump on today october 11 is the international
02:23day of the girl child i really wanted to get on because i think and talk about it because i think if
02:29more people get on their social media um talk to other people about it we'll raise awareness for it
02:36and obviously as a parent i want my daughter to grow up in a world where she feels safe where she
02:43feels loved and supported and also where she can reach her full potential and that's really important
02:50for all parents um and obviously it's important for every child but today october 11 we're really
02:57focusing on the international day of the girl child so spread the word try spread awareness if you like
03:04and thank you for listening thank you for tuning in and get on the world vision website too um and
03:09you'll find a lot more information about sponsoring a girl through their through their program
