Deadliest Catch Season 21 Episode 0
Transcript
00:01Before I was a captain, in the 60s and 70s, my father and other industry pioneers caught over 300 million pounds of king and bared-eye crab from Atka all the way to Attu and down the Aleutian chain.
00:18The Western grounds were the most productive in American fishing history.
00:23Then the crab disappeared.
00:27But everything's changed.
00:30This is how the fleet and my old man convinced me to head back west where it all began.
00:54Well, we're back in Dutch Harbor. We are getting ready for the red king crab season.
01:00Now, this is the second year it's been open in a row. And the quotas are bigger. We're up by about a half a million pounds. We're up over 260% for bared-eye for the tanner crab season.
01:13And Apilio are back. So, I mean, everything's moving. All the pistons are running in the engine right now.
01:20There was a video going around of some big king crab that guys were getting out west.
01:25Look at that thing. Dude, these are some fatties. That's crazy.
01:32These guys were fishing cod with cod pots out west. Now, whether it was just one pot that they filmed or many, I don't know.
01:38But, uh, the reality is, I mean, guys haven't been out west for decades.
01:45You know, you're talking about the past here. And I mean, back then, yes, it was amazing. There was millions made out there.
01:52But, you're talking about today. And that's history. I mean, there is just an enormous idea. Oh, f***. Now what?
02:06I've been looking all over for you, man. You're driving me crazy.
02:23Well, just the boat's right around the corner. I'm trying to tell you.
02:27I'm trying to tell him to meet me at the boat. And then he tells me to meet me at the boat.
02:31Look, don't hit that car. Watch out, old man.
02:33Jonathan.
02:44How many grandbabies you got now?
02:46I mean, are you catching me? I got seven. You can't catch me. My grandkids are like rabbits.
02:51I didn't know we were competing about grandbabies.
02:53You got to catch me. Yeah, I'm competing. How many you got?
02:56Number four. Five months ago. Number four, C.
02:58It's kind of fun, though. Aren't they the best?
03:00They don't have to change diapers, and they stink, and they cry.
03:03It's broke. It's broken here. Take it.
03:05It's so f***. Oh, yeah.
03:08But anyway.
03:10So where are you going to go fish this year?
03:12I know it's not in your DNA to give up numbers.
03:17I'm thinking of traditional grounds east. It's on the other side of the ridge, but that's what I was thinking.
03:22I think that there's still big crab right around that edge.
03:25Out west. I'm talking way out here.
03:30There's a big biomass.
03:32These are going to be big crab, a couple pounds heavier.
03:37It's a long way to go.
03:39If you got 100,000 pounds, and this is $25 a pound, that's $2.5 million, dude.
03:44That'll get my bare new pair of shoes.
03:48You're serious. I know you're...
03:50I'm going whether you go or not, but I would just love to have you with me.
03:53I don't trust anybody else, you know?
03:55You're looking at 150, 200,000 square miles. You know that, right?
03:59Yeah, yeah.
04:00And I'm just saying, if you miss, f***, dude. You're starting over.
04:04I could cover the area twice as fast.
04:10I want to go, but I don't want to take the risk.
04:17Oh, thanks.
04:19Okay, buddy.
04:20Worst case scenario, reach out on the radio.
04:22And keep working on them grandkids, you know?
04:26Good Lord.
04:27Jonathan wants to go out west and give it a try.
04:30And it's a long journey.
04:32And when you do that, it's an expensive journey.
04:35Justifying that kind of risk is, right now, not worth it for me.
04:40SIG is a third-generation fisherman, and I can trust him.
04:49If you have two boats, you have twice as many pots.
04:51You can cover twice as much ground.
04:53It's a risk, but we can have, like, some of the biggest crab we've seen in years.
04:58But this is going to be me.
05:01Just the bandits.
05:03I mean, there's tens of thousands of dollars just in fuel.
05:08And then if you strike out, it's the time.
05:10And the time is what's important here.
05:12You've got to come back, and you're starting from ground zero.
05:15Why would you take a chance like that?
05:18It doesn't pencil out.
05:21Go ho ho!
05:44Hey, get out! Get out!
05:48Get out!
05:50Go, go, go, go!
05:52Go, go, go, go!
05:54Go, go!
05:56Get it!
05:58Is that everybody?
06:02Yo, Max! Max, we're already fire on, man! Max!
06:20You guys are gonna have to start doing some cardio.
06:26What's going on?
06:28What's up?
06:30We drilled.
06:32Roger.
06:34That was about 55 seconds for everybody to get up here.
06:38Yeah, I was in a good dream.
06:40A good dream's gonna turn into a bad dream real quick
06:43if you ain't up here in 20 seconds.
06:45Yeah.
06:47We got two-and-a-half, three-day steam out west.
06:51Yeah.
06:52If everybody's sleeping, which is gonna happen...
06:55Yeah.
06:56That's usually when something happens.
06:59If there's a fire, it's not gonna take
07:02but a minute for this boat to sink.
07:08I just want you guys to be ready.
07:11Yes, sir.
07:12Good. That sounds good.
07:13I appreciate all of you.
07:14All right.
07:17It's 2024.
07:19It's my second year on the Titan Explorer.
07:21Last year, I spent a lot of time, uh...
07:25trying to prove to the owners that I was worth...
07:29you know, what they hired.
07:32But now I want more.
07:34What I have to do to buy this boat
07:36is I have to make enough money
07:38to get a portion of it.
07:40But I haven't fished way out west for king crab
07:45like the rest of these veterans.
07:48And when you're 450 miles out at sea,
07:53the Coast Guard can't get to you in time
07:55if you run into trouble.
07:57When you come up here to bury and see the fish,
08:02the risk versus reward is really high.
08:07You have to be able to take care of every possible situation.
08:11I mean, I experienced that last year with Tyler
08:14for that fire.
08:15Hey, guys, I got smoke in the bow.
08:20Smoke in the bow.
08:21Smoke in the bow.
08:22Smoke in the bow.
08:23Smoke in the bow.
08:24Holy .
08:25Guys, we got something going on out for her.
08:27All right?
08:28Holy .
08:29Boats are made with enclosed spaces
08:32with a lot of flammable things.
08:34You know, whether it's wood, insulation,
08:37buoys, lines, everything burns.
08:39If you can't get to it to contain it,
08:41it can just take out the entire boat.
08:44Whoa.
08:45What do we got?
08:46What in the water?
08:47What's going on?
08:48No, no, no.
08:49Whoa.
08:50The fire started with an electrical short,
08:53and then it torched off these paint cans.
08:56So it was literally like bombs going off in the bow.
08:59Do we have a head count?
09:01I need to know who is on deck.
09:03Where's Tyler?
09:04And then when we started counting heads,
09:08we found out that one of our guys was down there.
09:10Tyler!
09:11Tyler!
09:12Fortunately, Tyler was down there on his belly
09:15on the bottom of that tank.
09:17He could see where the fire was coming from.
09:19We couldn't.
09:20And, you know, Tyler had the presence of mind
09:23to shut that emergency hatch down there
09:25between the four peak and the storage line.
09:29He trapped himself inside that hatch.
09:31But Tyler on deck, is Tyler down right now?
09:33He's downstairs getting the buoys set up.
09:36And you don't know if he's alive or dead.
09:39Tyler!
09:44Tyler!
09:45He's downstairs getting the buoys set up.
09:47You can hear him screaming from down there.
09:49Get ready to pull that hat.
09:51You better have a plan when you go west.
09:53If you have a mistake, serious fire.
09:56It's gonna be 18 hours before you might even have a helicopter.
10:03All you can do is focus on the problem.
10:06We got him?
10:08Get him inside!
10:11The fire couldn't spread into the gear room.
10:17If that fire spread into the gear room,
10:20this boat wouldn't be here right now.
10:30He's all right.
10:31All right, thanks.
10:32After all that adrenaline, after you know everything's secure,
10:45you know your crew is safe,
10:47nobody has any major injuries or anything wrong with them,
10:51then your body breaks down.
10:54Your mind breaks down.
10:56The emotions start coming out because of the realization of what could have happened.
11:06I just about lost my best friend's son.
11:09My best friend is Kurt Frankenberg.
11:14Tyler Frankenberg was a kid that was trapped down there in that smoke.
11:18You know, Tyler's like a son to me.
11:21He has been since he was born.
11:23And his family.
11:28You know, his grandma was basically my surrogate mom when I was a child.
11:34You have to call the best man at your wedding, a friend of 50 years,
11:39and tell him that his son's not coming home.
11:44How do you live with someone like that?
11:47You know, I don't want to think about it anymore, man.
11:52I just, I don't, I don't want to relive it.
12:14It should be right here.
12:35There she is.
12:40It's unlocked.
12:45It's unlocked.
12:50It's unlocked.
12:51Really?
12:56Ah.
12:57Hugs.
12:58How's it going?
12:59Ah.
13:00Lord.
13:01OK.
13:03Good trip.
13:04Not bad.
13:06How about babies, OK?
13:08Everything good at home?
13:09The kids are doing great, but I stood at that gate for a while.
13:13I didn't, almost didn't get on the plane.
13:15Faster you catch the crab, faster you go.
13:18Faster you can help.
13:19You almost ready?
13:23We still got to get everything ready as far as the pots, the gear, the bait, and all that good stuff.
13:29Can we pick an area?
13:30Yeah.
13:31And I think, uh, if we stay close to town, I think it's going to be a big payoff.
13:39But, I mean, I'm sure you've read the survey, right?
13:44We can always look at it if you want.
13:45You got everything?
13:46Yep.
13:47Go.
13:48This is the one that we got this year.
13:51Everything out here in the regular grounds, all dark, which means east is a safer bet.
14:18I see all these dark spots here out to the west.
14:22This is density.
14:23This is density, large size.
14:26Just saying.
14:27But this is...
14:28That's a...
14:29You are right.
14:30There's life.
14:31But we don't know specific depths if there is any.
14:36Um, there's a needle in a haystack.
14:38That's the problem.
14:39You understand?
14:40But they're bigger crap.
14:41Yes, but...
14:42Just think about it.
14:45I appreciate Manny's ambition, and that's what it's all about when you're a fisherman.
14:53That being said, uh, she really doesn't know what she's asking for, you know?
14:59You know, last year, uh, Keith had an incident, and it just goes to show how when you're alone,
15:08and you're out there in the middle of nowhere, if someone gets hurt, it can be a very scary place to be.
15:14I don't remember what happened.
15:23I remember being on the floor.
15:37Are you all right?
15:39Bro.
15:40Are you alright?
15:45Hey, bro.
15:46Talk to me, bro.
15:47And then, you know, I came to it.
16:00And I...
16:02just, I...
16:03my left side was numb.
16:05John.
16:06What? You're kidding.
16:10I haven't watched that footage.
16:14I don't want to see myself that weak.
16:18I don't want to see myself not being in control.
16:23U.S. Coast Guard sector in Anchorage.
16:27Fishing vessel wizard.
16:29We've had some sort of an episode on board here.
16:33It's my brother. His name is Keith.
16:36His left arm was going numb.
16:39At this point, my concern is that he possibly had a...
16:43possibly a mini-stroke.
16:47Maybe I was afraid that I was human.
16:50Maybe I was afraid that I wasn't bulletproof.
16:53Maybe the realization that...
16:55I was heading out on a plane or helicopter,
16:59that I was not going to be going back out with a wizard to fish.
17:02I don't...
17:09I don't...
17:11I don't...
17:12Monty was a hero that day.
17:25He got his brother to town.
17:27You know, Monty and I fight a lot.
17:38We're brothers.
17:40He was really stressed out, yelling and screaming and mad,
17:43and he's kind of rotten to me,
17:45but we'll go get past that.
17:48That's just an older brother, I guess.
17:52Monty and I are only a year apart.
17:55We've been fighting since we're kids.
17:57We've also been fighting for each other since we're kids.
17:59There's nobody else on this planet that I wouldn't go to war with than my brother.
18:09The reality is, had he been far from shore,
18:13who knows what would have happened.
18:16He was close to shore.
18:18That's probably what saved his life.
18:20So how far away you are being on your own,
18:24it's part of the equation.
18:25We're going to head the farthest west we've ever been.
18:46I hope that it's all going to work out.
18:48We get on the motherland, so...
18:50Yeah.
18:51We'll see how it rolls.
18:52Pretty excited, you know,
18:54we've got some big boys out there.
18:59Let's go ahead and cut it loose, guys.
19:01Woo-hoo!
19:01We're going fishing.
19:02Pull fishing, baby!
19:06Out west!
19:07Out west!
19:15Our ADAC crew starts right here in Dutch Harbor.
19:18To go out west, it seems a lot to me, you know.
19:23I can't stop to think, but this is the same route my granddad,
19:27Ernest Clyde Schubert, took in World War II.
19:30Bought the Japanese.
19:31A lot of people don't know it.
19:36Right after Pearl Harbor was bombed,
19:38Dutch Harbor was also bombed.
19:42The United States had a guy named Colonel Kastner,
19:45and he got scouts from all over the United States and Alaska,
19:50guys that could live off the land,
19:52guys that could go unnoticed and, like, ghosts, invisible.
19:55They were called the cutthroats, Kastner's cutthroats,
19:57and instrumental in stopping the Japanese
19:59from coming up the illusion chain.
20:02My granddad, Ernest Clyde Schubert, was a cutthroat,
20:06and they called him Schubert.
20:09Glad that those guys fought for us,
20:10so we have freedom today.
20:12Because of him, we're here.
20:16It could be the smartest thing I've ever done,
20:18it could be the stupidest thing I've ever done,
20:20but that's the way we live.
20:27Get Neil out of here!
20:32Wait, hey, smoke, smoke!
20:34Neil, Neil!
20:35Holy f*****!
20:36Fire, guys, fire!
20:37Get to the knee in the movie!
20:39Smoke!
20:40The f***** is that?
20:41Ready, help him!
20:42What's going on?
20:47Holy f*****!
20:48Fire, guys, fire!
20:49Get to the knee in the movie!
20:51We gotta fire these four feet!
20:53You got a lot of smoke,
20:57I don't know what's going on.
20:58Neil's up there.
21:00It's not good.
21:01All right!
21:03I think I got it out.
21:05Neil's coming out!
21:06It's all right, Neil!
21:07Yeah.
21:09Okay, let me know what's going on, guys.
21:12What the f***** just happened?
21:13Looked like the bay freezer was on fire,
21:15but I got it.
21:16It took the power off.
21:18Bay freezer?
21:19Yes, the bay freezer.
21:20That breaker's caught on fire.
21:23The fire's out, though, right?
21:24Fire is out.
21:26Roger.
21:26Thanks, Russell.
21:28Keep me posted.
21:30That's my scariest thing,
21:32is when your boat comes to fire,
21:34we're all asleep, traveling,
21:35and you wouldn't have seen the smoke,
21:37you're a dead man.
21:39These wires look like they melted right here,
21:42and hopefully they didn't shorten
21:43nothing out inside the box.
21:46And this was just happened to be in the way.
21:48This made a lot of smoke.
21:50I don't know what kind of damage we have.
21:52I don't even know if I can get it working again.
21:53You got another breaker?
22:00Well, we're going to have to freaking do some rewiring.
22:03It's all melting, so it's going to be a while.
22:06Hopefully we can fix it.
22:08Otherwise, we're screwed.
22:09Thank you, Neil.
22:09We've got to be able to fix that.
22:18We need our bait bruiser.
22:20We lose our bait.
22:22We're F'd.
22:23F'd.
22:24Tango uniform.
22:25Tits off.
22:26All right.
22:48All right.
22:48Perfect.
22:52Yep.
22:53They're trying to make sure that when we go out there,
23:15we all come back alive.
23:17Can we grab your stability book and take a look at it?
23:21Um, Felipe, it's a skinny yellow book.
23:24I'm going to review some stuff with you.
23:28So.
23:32I feel comfortable that your life raft
23:34and your training raft are hooked up correctly.
23:36Do we get any weights on the pot yet?
23:38So 835, 832, 778.
23:4211 suits are good.
23:43OK.
23:44I think we're looking good, Jake.
23:46Um, something changes, something comes up,
23:49or you got a question about anything,
23:50you can always reach out to us.
23:51All right.
23:51Be safe crossing the dock.
23:53It's the most dangerous place.
23:54Oh.
23:54Hey there, lovely lady.
24:05Hey, yo.
24:06How's it going?
24:07Got the Coast Guard inspection done.
24:09We're good with the state.
24:10We're good with the feds.
24:12We just need a little bit more gear to be rigged.
24:15And we'll be ready to go out west.
24:21Um.
24:21Yeah, well.
24:28I mean, I know you know what you're doing, but.
24:32You know, we just.
24:33We're barely a year out from everything
24:35that happened with the saga.
24:37And I don't know.
24:44I'm just trying to do the best I can do to provide for us.
24:48And it seems like the best option to grow the empire
24:54and to buy the boat.
24:55I hate putting you in, because this is your,
24:57literally your wheelhouse.
25:00It just sounds like a big risk.
25:02It just feels like a lot.
25:04I'm just kind of worried about wanting to talk to you.
25:06Okay.
25:09All right.
25:10I love you.
25:11Love you, too.
25:12Okay.
25:13Bye.
25:13Bye-bye.
25:21I know it's expensive to go all the way out there
25:23if I don't make money.
25:25All those decisions impact everything
25:29that happens back home.
25:31My kids, my wife.
25:33And a year ago, I lost everything.
25:36The door's changed.
25:53I was standing in the back of my own wheelhouse,
26:01and I couldn't get in.
26:02And I didn't know why, because the amount of money
26:06that I put into the saga was enough to buy it twice.
26:11And that was up.
26:17What's the deal?
26:18There's liens on the boat.
26:21The bank, they said nobody's allowed on it.
26:24They own the boat.
26:25I don't know how.
26:27I just feel like such a fool.
26:29Lenny, the worst partner I've ever had
26:35in my entire f***ing life.
26:36I mean, did he not pay his bills?
26:39What happened?
26:40I still don't know what happened,
26:42because all I've gotten was an empty f***ing telephone.
26:47I'm still in a f***ing lawsuit paying f***ing lawyers
26:50to f***ing figure out when I'm going to get my money back.
26:54I'm going to get some of my stuff now, and oh, it's sad.
27:02This is a salvage mission.
27:03This is f***ing, this is hard.
27:17I got f***ed, because I didn't just lose my boat,
27:22I also lost my crew, which was my family.
27:24I remember loading stuff off a big 450, a big dirt bike.
27:40And I was trying to tow the totes,
27:42because my four-wheelers didn't work.
27:44I remember I dumped it, like I fell on it.
27:48And then my crew pulled up in the truck,
28:05and I remember asking them, you know,
28:07do you think you can help me?
28:10Come on!
28:14You know, I remember, I said, can you help me?
28:16And he said, you know, I can't.
28:19I gotta, I gotta go.
28:21F***ing crew members on another f***ing boat,
28:23and I was just like, f***ing.
28:26F***ing kidding me, dude.
28:40Unless you've been f***ing homeless before
28:43and left by society,
28:44you wouldn't understand what it's like
28:47to be left by your own people.
28:48It's one of the f***ing hardest things
28:50a human being can go through.
28:53And only very few know it.
28:56Stripped of all my money and title,
28:58I'll never forget that f***ing night.
29:00That night was f***ing brutal.
29:06Losing the saga,
29:07it really dropped me down a peg.
29:09It's like going from being a captain
29:12to a deckhand.
29:15But, you know, I really do respect Jenna
29:18as a partner in my business.
29:21And if she thinks something's too risky,
29:24a lot of the times she's right.
29:28I've earned respect
29:30as a captain on the Titan.
29:31But if I go all the way out west
29:35and fail,
29:36I will get fired.
29:39Every decision that I make
29:41impacts my family.
29:43And I don't want to lose everything again.
29:45Well, here we are.
30:07This is Great Syndicate Island.
30:10We're way out west.
30:12Way, way west.
30:12But, uh,
30:16we got a breaker problem.
30:18It's a breaker for the bait freezer.
30:21This is the most important thing
30:22on the boat for crab fishing
30:23is it keeps all of our bait
30:24frozen.
30:25We don't have frozen bait.
30:26We use the bait as fast as we can.
30:28Try to catch as much crab as we can
30:29until it got rotten
30:31and then pretty much have to go to town.
30:33Pretty nasty within three days.
30:37We're a long ways from home.
30:38Great Syndicate Island.
30:44It was a key location in World War II.
30:47It's one of the major
30:48refueling stations.
30:50You can still see a lot of structures here.
30:54I can see
30:55Quonset huts
30:56and bunkers and stuff.
30:59Oh, yeah.
30:59This is definitely a remnant
31:02of what they call
31:03the Forgotten War.
31:06You know,
31:06when the Japanese took over
31:08the Aleutian Islands,
31:09the cutthroats actually
31:10traveled to Attu
31:12on a submarine
31:12from Dutch Harbor.
31:14My granddad,
31:15Ernest Clyde Schubert,
31:17he was actually
31:17one of the kids
31:18that was dropped off
31:19on the islands.
31:21And they actually
31:21held off the Japanese
31:23for a couple days
31:24while our military
31:25snuck around the back
31:26of the island
31:26and came in through the back.
31:27I think 5,000 Japanese
31:32died in those 18 days.
31:35Cutthroats
31:36and Colonel Kastner
31:37actually won the war
31:38in the Aleutian Chain.
31:41All right.
31:41This is the moment of truth.
31:42Come on, baby.
31:47Waiting for the compressor
31:48to kick on.
31:49Come on, baby.
31:51There it goes.
31:55It's working.
31:56Say that again.
31:58It seems like it's working, right?
32:01Okay.
32:03I think we go back to work.
32:04Thank you, Neil.
32:04Woo!
32:05Thank you, guys.
32:06Don't go anywhere
32:07without Neil Hillstrand.
32:11It took us four days
32:12to get here.
32:13And no one's fished out here
32:14for over 30 years.
32:16So the crab
32:16got to be stockpiled
32:17out there.
32:18Seriously.
32:19If I'm right,
32:20this is going to be
32:20a huge payday.
32:25It's a long ways.
32:27You know,
32:28I kind of am nervous
32:29about this,
32:29but we all need
32:31paychecks for our families.
32:34So
32:34we got to hit them.
32:38Heaven and hell
32:39is this close
32:40out on the ocean.
32:43It's a gamble,
32:44especially when you're
32:44way out west all along.
32:46That is scary.
32:47Is that good?
33:17We're probably going
33:20to stay up pretty late
33:20tonight,
33:21get as many pots
33:22on as we can.
33:23I want to be locked
33:24and loaded
33:25and leave on time.
33:26Price is going to be high.
33:28king crab.
33:29Excited.
33:31Knock on wood, dude.
33:34Everything's going
33:35to be perfect.
33:40Guys are trying
33:41to get boat ready.
33:45You know,
33:46right now,
33:46plan is to stay
33:47close to town,
33:49minimize cost,
33:50and see if we can't
33:52get in and out safely.
33:57Hey,
33:57Steggy,
33:58got me?
34:01I'm here.
34:03We got an eight-pound load
34:04of air on its way.
34:06How many pounds?
34:0915,000.
34:10So what was that?
34:11I got here
34:13and it says
34:14happy northwestern.
34:16All right,
34:17let me get back to you.
34:23Mandy,
34:24can you come up here?
34:26Yeah.
34:30That's twice
34:31of what we need.
34:32What's going on?
34:38How much bait
34:39did you guys order?
34:41They're telling me
34:4115,000 pounds of bait
34:43is on the way.
34:43That's right.
34:44Who ordered that?
34:45I ordered it.
34:46You ordered 15,000 pounds?
34:48Yeah.
34:51Typically,
34:52we can get by
34:53for a long time
34:53on eight.
34:54We talked about
34:56going further out there.
34:58You're talking about
34:59going out west again?
35:01Yeah.
35:02Ha!
35:03What are you not
35:03understanding?
35:05We talked about it.
35:06If I made up my mind
35:07to go west,
35:08then I would do that
35:08and I'd let you know,
35:09but we haven't said that.
35:11You've said that.
35:12You have that in your head.
35:20My granddad was out here
35:21and he was the same age
35:23as I was when I first
35:24came out here
35:24when I was 18.
35:26It was World War II.
35:28World War II, dude.
35:29The whole world fought.
35:31Look what I found
35:32at the store.
35:34Yeah, baby.
35:35We'll fly this for...
35:36No way, Neil.
35:36Let's fly it all the way
35:37out to Aduck.
35:39U.S.M.A!
35:41U.S.M.A!
35:43That's right!
35:46Yeah, baby!
35:47That makes me
35:48even more patriotic.
35:50U.S.A!
35:51U.S.A!
35:52Love you, Pops.
35:54Pop, Pop.
35:54And, um,
35:56thanks for everything you did.
35:58Miss you.
35:59I'll see him again someday.
36:03I understand what you're doing.
36:14You're trying to lock and load, man.
36:15I get it.
36:16There's no reason
36:17to not go.
36:25All right, look.
36:26It's not about ego right now.
36:28It's about
36:29trying to make
36:30a fast buck
36:31safely.
36:32One, two, go!
36:47Money.
36:51You don't believe it.
36:53What?
36:56To go that far,
36:57look, you don't even know
36:58if there's crap, though.
36:58That's the thing.
36:59Look, my grandpa
37:01would have done it.
37:03Sir, I used to fish
37:04there all the time.
37:05This boat has not
37:05been back there since.
37:07I mean, yeah,
37:08it sounds like it.
37:09Yeah.
37:12My old man
37:13was a hero to me
37:13growing up.
37:15You know,
37:15I had those trips
37:17with him out west,
37:18a lot of memories
37:20out there,
37:20going along the chain
37:22and looking for crap,
37:23you know?
37:24These are my dad's
37:31little charts here.
37:37That's as far west
37:38as you can get.
37:39He was out here
37:40basically in the 60s,
37:4270s.
37:43I've only been
37:44out there a few times.
37:47You know,
37:54he's not here anymore
37:55and I miss him
37:57all the time.
38:03You know,
38:04it makes you want
38:05to go back there.
38:08I mean,
38:09Great Sitkin,
38:11Four Mountains,
38:12Adak,
38:13and there was crap.
38:14I mean,
38:16Big Crab.
38:20Huh.
38:23They were
38:24a heck of a lot
38:25deeper.
38:28So you can see
38:29how he's marked
38:30them up,
38:30but we got down
38:32to like even
38:35100 Fathoms
38:36was big.
38:38You can see
38:38the whole bank
38:39there.
38:44I mean,
38:53it's tempting,
38:53you know.
38:54That looks so good,
38:57you know,
38:58you want to chase
38:58it down.
38:59Survey does say,
39:01you know,
39:01there's life.
39:03And boy,
39:04you find life
39:04like that,
39:05it'd be a lot
39:05of fun.
39:06I think there's
39:07more than 100
39:08or about 100 of them.
39:27Nothing's promised
39:28here,
39:29but I have the
39:30opportunity to make
39:31millions.
39:32and becoming
39:34a partner
39:35and regaining
39:35success as an
39:36owner is not
39:37going to come
39:37without risk.
39:41I want my wife
39:42and kids
39:42to be proud
39:43of me.
39:44I want my life
39:45to mean something.
39:47And that's why
39:48I'm going out west.
39:49I want to make
39:50sure that my time
39:51out here
39:52is worth it.
39:54I don't like
40:08making decisions
40:09on emotions.
40:10It's the wrong
40:10thing to do.
40:13But when I start
40:15putting the pieces
40:15together,
40:17it inspires me,
40:20you know.
40:21not to just
40:25relive old
40:26memories,
40:26but there's
40:27money out there.
40:28We're talking
40:29millions of dollars.
40:30We're talking
40:31rediscovering
40:31a fishery.
40:33I'm not going
40:34to wait for
40:34someone else
40:34to do it.
40:35I'm going
40:36to do it first.
40:38You got me,
40:39John?
40:40Sick.
40:40What's up?
40:42Well,
40:43I had a change
40:44of heart,
40:44pal.
40:45I'd like to
40:46meet you
40:46in ADAC.
40:48Are you kidding
40:48to me?
40:49Not with a boat,
40:50just me.
40:51Get ready.
