00:00From the day I woke up in prison and realized the mistakes that I had made and the pain that
00:04I had caused people, I committed to turning my life around.
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we'll be discussing the instances where the dark side
00:11of Hollywood rose up to consume some famous movie performers.
00:16What Locaine is doing is speaking publicly about her crime as a warning to others.
00:22Attempted Murder, Shelley Malil.
00:25It's difficult to say what might have come of the career of Shelley Malil after the actor
00:29gained fame for his performance in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
00:32Hey, Will and Grace, back to work.
00:35Hey, Aziz, can you just give us a second?
00:37We're just kind of in the middle of something.
00:40Hey, I'm on my break, okay?
00:41That's because Malil was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole
00:45after 12 years for the attempted murder of his girlfriend, Kendra Beebe, in 2010.
00:50He was convicted of premeditated attempted murder and was given a 12-years-to-life sentence.
00:55The wounds inflicted on Beebe by Malil were numerous, and the victim was left in some
01:00severe physical shape, although she would eventually survive the attack.
01:04Malil, in the meantime, was actually paroled in 2018 after serving only eight years of his
01:10sentence.
01:10He says he's a changed man, has taken self-help courses in prison, and participated in Alcoholics
01:17Anonymous.
01:17Alleged abuse and defamation.
01:20Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
01:22Why do we so often follow the sordid details that emerge in the wake of a high-profile celebrity
01:27court case?
01:28It was very, very toxic.
01:30We were awful to each other.
01:33You know, I made a lot of, a lot of mistakes.
01:38A lot of mistakes.
01:41But I've always told the truth.
01:42The tumultuous relationship of actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was an open book for all
01:47to see during their 2022 trial.
01:49There's absolutely no question that especially Johnny Depp's lawyers are playing to the public.
01:57There's no question.
01:58Depp's legal team brought forth allegations of defamation against Heard, while the latter
02:02asserted that she was a victim of domestic violence during her marriage to Depp.
02:06Live-streamed footage of the trial resulted in public support primarily leading towards
02:11Depp, and this sentiment seemed to be echoed by the jury verdict, which ruled in favor of
02:17the plaintiff.
02:18I think the key to victory was focusing on the facts and the evidence, and Johnny's opportunity
02:24to speak the truth for the first time.
02:27First-degree attempted burglary.
02:30Lillo Bruncato.
02:31It was alongside heavyweight acting legends like Robert De Niro that Lillo Bruncato first
02:37made his mark in Hollywood.
02:38Nice sheets now, you gotta be careful, I don't get a nosebleed.
02:41Hey, these are the best I can do.
02:42What do you want from me?
02:44Come on, Pop, I'm only kidding.
02:45The young actor would earn praise for his work in A Bronx Tale, although struggles with
02:49substance use disorder eventually came to a head for Bruncato.
02:53A gunfight with off-duty police officer Daniel Enchitigwe proved to be fatal for the latter.
02:59Someone came to the hospital bed with the newspaper, and he said, hey buddy, you proud of yourself?
03:08He said, you and your boy just killed a cop.
03:10I said, what?
03:11Bruncato was charged with second-degree murder for his role in the altercation, one that also
03:16included Bruncato's accomplice, Steven Armento.
03:19Bruncato escaped the murder charge, but was convicted of first-degree attempted burglary,
03:24served time, and was eventually parole.
03:27He speaks now about his experiences, and has returned to acting.
03:32What I can do is choose to be a little bit better today than I was yesterday, and try
03:36to help as many people as possible, and be kind.
03:38It doesn't cost anything.
03:39Sexual assault, Gerard Depardieu.
03:43It's a question that's been asked before, one that tends to follow many celebrities whose
03:47talents sometimes overshadow the dark clouds of controversy that follow their careers.
03:52In the wake of the Me Too movement in 2017, serious allegations of sexual misconduct were
03:58made against the actor, casting a shadow over his career.
04:02There's absolutely no denying the greatness of Gerard Depardieu as an actor, as evidenced
04:08by his numerous awards and accolades.
04:10Yet, accusations of a sexual nature have dogged Depardieu for decades.
04:15He's previously denied any wrongdoing, and his lawyer has said the accusations are false
04:20and based on lies.
04:22It wasn't until 2020 that an official reckoning came knocking, in the form of official charges
04:27levied in Depardieu's native France.
04:30He was convicted in May of 2025 on two counts of sexual assault, although the actor steadfastly
04:36denied these accusations, and even took the stand in his own defense.
04:39Gerard Depardieu, an icon of French cinema, has been handed a suspended jail term of 18
04:45months.
04:45The verdict is currently being appealed.
04:48Sexual exploitation.
04:50James Franco.
04:51The arrest of disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein in 2018 served as a reckoning
04:56of sorts.
04:57A moment in history where other victims of sexual exploitation and abuse felt emboldened to speak
05:03up and tell their stories.
05:05One of the things that I've learned is that this is a conversation that obviously needs
05:10to be had.
05:12There are people, women and others, who have not been a part of this conversation, and
05:17I truly believe, and why I was wearing the pin, is that they need to be a part of this
05:22conversation.
05:23The career and reputation of James Franco certainly took a hit in the wake of this Weinstein effect,
05:29since multiple women accused the actor of taking advantage of his position as an acting
05:33coach.
05:34He's definitely got two personalities, and that doesn't mean he doesn't have a great
05:39sweet side, but when he has his other side, it's the complete polar opposite.
05:46Behavior that was designed to elicit certain favors in exchange for potential acting roles,
05:51with retaliation on the table if those favors weren't doled out.
05:55The suits were settled out of court, although Franco did admit that he had sex with his students
06:00during this time.
06:01Suppose, at the time, my thinking was, if it's consensual, okay.
06:09Fatal DUI.
06:10Amy Locaine.
06:12The 2020 short film Cooties served as the first film role in over 10 years for Amy Locaine,
06:17who had formerly retired in 2006, while she was raising a family.
06:21Locaine was living a quiet life in New Jersey as a wife and mother at the time of the accident.
06:26Unfortunately, Locaine was involved in a fatal car crash in 2010, one that proved fatal to
06:32the wife of Fred Seaman, who had been attempting to turn into his driveway.
06:36I drove home while I was intoxicated, and the consequences were devastating.
06:45Locaine's conviction in sentencing proved to be equally controversial, since it was later
06:50found that the initial decision of three years was too lenient.
06:54The actress ultimately served more years in prison while appealing this decision, before
06:58finally being released in December of 2024.
07:02Amy now speaks to high school students about the dangers of drunk driving.
07:06I want to do everything in my power to prevent other people from going through something that
07:13horrible and that difficult.
07:15Felony Torture.
07:17Joe Sun.
07:18The martial arts training of Joe Sun made this actor an easy fit for multiple direct-to-video
07:23acting gigs.
07:24A relatively small-time actor is now attracting his biggest headlines ever, and they're not over
07:29movie roles.
07:30Then, Sun's resemblance to the famous James Bond villain Oddjob resulted in his casting as
07:35random task in the hit spy parody, Austin Powers' International Man of Mystery.
07:40It would be DNA evidence submitted for Sun's role in a separate crime, that of felony vandalism,
07:47that would go on to connect the actor to a cold case that occurred 18 years prior.
07:51Sun was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a felony torture case that left a female
07:56victim traumatized and assaulted.
07:59The actor's prison life would result in yet another crime, this time for the murder of
08:03Joe Sun's cellmate, Michael Graham.
08:06A month after his son arrived, officials at the prison found his 50-year-old cellmate dead
08:11in their quarters.
08:12Murder.
08:13Johnny Lewis.
08:14It's unclear as to whether or not a 2011 motorcycle accident caused some sort of undiagnosed
08:20trauma within the otherwise promising life of actor Johnny Lewis.
08:25Johnny Lewis starred in the show Sons of Anarchy, and officials say he went on a violent rampage.
08:31The star of such films as Aliens vs. Predator Requiem, and television shows like Sons of
08:36Anarchy, was staying at a bed and breakfast known to other creatives in the area of Los
08:41Angeles, California.
08:42We got a series of 911 calls, neighbors called, said there's someone screaming, I hear glass
08:46breaking, our officers rushed up there.
08:49By the time we got there, Mr. Lewis was already dead.
08:52His behavior proved to be violently erratic, however, with Lewis having assaulted a number
08:57of his neighbors prior to murdering his landlady, Catherine Davis, as well as her pet cat.
09:02Johnny Lewis fell to his death after committing these crimes, although authorities maintain
09:07that this fatal fall was accidental, and not a self-induced act of destruction.
09:13We believe that Mr. Lewis was responsible for this.
09:16Hate Crimes.
09:17Mark Wahlberg.
09:18There is an astonishingly long rap sheet of crimes when it comes to the history of Mark Wahlberg's
09:23troubled youth.
09:24I'm from the wrong side of the tracks, I think.
09:27You know, I'm trying to work my way into good grace.
09:29The actor has freely admitted his wrongdoings as a teenager when he committed hate crimes
09:34against persons of color in his neighborhood.
09:37The actor only served 45 days in jail for a 1988 attack on a Vietnamese man, Johnny Trent.
09:42I was a young kid and I was a follower, and the day I woke up in prison I had to say,
09:46you know what, do I want to continue to be a follower, do I want to change my life and
09:49become a leader, and that's what I decided to do.
09:51Yet Wahlberg brazenly requested a pardon from the state of Massachusetts in 2014 for his
09:57crime, a pardon that was not issue.
10:00Mark Wahlberg would later go on to state that he'd personally met with Trin in an effort
10:05to clean his personal slate.
10:06I'm committed to turning my life around and becoming a productive person in the community.

10:26Vehicular manslaughter.
10:28Matthew Broderick.
10:29Careless driving.
10:31That was what the legal team representing Matthew Broderick eventually had levied against their
10:35client after a tragic car accident took place back in 1987.
10:39You were with Matthew in the car, and that car struck another one and it ended two lives.
10:45Broderick's car swerved into the wrong lane while the actor was vacationing in Northern Ireland.
10:51The passengers in the other car, a mother and daughter, were killed at the scene.
10:56I was in shock because I was the only living witness, and Matthew was unconscious and had
11:01amnesia, and the other two women died.
11:04Broderick in the meantime awoke in a hospital with some very serious injuries, together with
11:09no recollection of the incidents.
11:11The initial charges of causing death by dangerous driving were lowered to the aforementioned
11:15conviction, which let Broderick off with only a $175 fine.
11:21And it had very serious, traumatic, lasting effects on, I'm sure, Matthew and the family
11:29of the other women and me.
11:32Which of these revelations was the most shocking to you?
