00:00How do you know?
00:00Well, you know, he's got access.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:06And today, we're counting down our picks for the most entertaining actors
00:09who made short but unforgettable appearances on Friends.
00:13For this list, we'll only be including stars who have appeared in fewer than four episodes.
00:18Dad, I'm the Twinkie.
00:19You're the Twinkie?
00:20She's not a Twinkie.
00:24Number 20. Dakota Fanning as Mackenzie.
00:27My stupid friends are buying this house.
00:29Who are you?
00:30I'm Mackenzie.
00:31My stupid parents are selling this house.
00:34The Ripley star was a little girl when she appeared on Friends.
00:37However, her character, Mackenzie, was hilariously more mature than Joey.
00:42He was accompanying Monica and Chandler to their prospective new home,
00:45sulking about them getting a new place.
00:47Meanwhile, Mackenzie, whose parents were selling their house to the couple,
00:51was upset about losing it.
00:53Okay, you come with me and you tell them that the house is haunted.
00:57What are you, eight?
00:58Eight?
01:02Oh, okay.
01:03Let's say you're a great idea.
01:04I don't have any great ideas.
01:06I am eight.
01:08The two bond, and Mackenzie gives Joey a much-needed lesson in letting go.
01:13Dakota was adorable, funny, and had all the sass we got from her in Uptown Girls.
01:18We wish we could have seen more of her.
01:20Well, I hate to admit it, but you're probably right.
01:25How'd you get to be so smart?
01:28I read a lot.
01:31Just when I thought we could be friends.
01:35Number 19.
01:36Isabella Rossellini as herself.
01:39Isabella Rossellini.
01:51Imagine making a celebrity hall pass list, taking one of your crushes off it, and then bumping into them at
01:57your local coffee shop.
01:58That's exactly what happens when Ross swaps Isabella Rossellini for Winona Ryder on his list.
02:03The problem is, the man thinks he has a chance with the legendary actress.
02:07Are you really gonna let him do this?
02:08Honey, he's about to go hit on Isabella Rossellini.
02:11I'm just sorry we don't got popcorn.
02:14Rossellini is graceful as ever, though intimidating.
02:17And Ross makes a complete fool of himself.
02:20What's worse, the Blue Velvet star finds out about his list and isn't too happy about not being on it.
02:26She doesn't just turn him down, but also leaves him with a sick burn.
02:30You know, it's ironic, because I have a list of five goofy coffeehouse guys,
02:37and yesterday I just bumped you for that guy over there.
02:59The Blue Lagoon actress played one of Joey's love interests in Friends.
03:03Her character, Erica Ford, was a 10, but she was a stalker.
03:07Convinced Joey was his Days of Our Lives character, Dr. Drake Ramore.
03:11Things get out of hand when Erica thinks Joey's cheating on her,
03:14and his friends come to his rescue, painting him as a fake.
03:18Yes, it is true, and I know this because he pretended to be Drake to sleep with me.
03:28Joey and Erica share a passionate kiss before parting ways.
03:31Needless to say, Shields brought the perfect amount of over-the-top drama and ditzy glamour to her brief role.
03:37We still wonder how Erica fared in life, believing TV shows were real.
03:42Take care.
03:44I'll never forget you, Hans.
03:49Number 17. John Lovitz as Steve.
03:52That's a lovely apartment.
03:54Thank you. Would you like a tour?
03:56I was just being polite, but all right.
04:00A job interview with a would-be boss who's far from sober is a nightmare.
04:05In Friends, John Lovitz plays Steve, a restaurant owner who's invited for dinner at Monica's.
04:10She's vying for a chef position at his establishment and has a lavish spread ready to impress him.
04:15However, Steve's taste buds aren't exactly at their best.
04:19The man is as high as a kite and couldn't care less for a gourmet meal.
04:23Monica's rightfully bummed.
04:25But at least Phoebe gets revenge on her behalf by giving the guy a terrible massage.
04:30How's this?
04:32Sorry. How about over here?
04:34See, now that just means it's working.
04:36Does this hurt?
04:38No.
04:39How about this?
04:41There you go.
04:42Steve turns up in season 9, too, as Rachel's self-deprecating blind date.
04:47With his impeccable comedic timing, the Saturday Night Live star stole every scene he was in.
04:52That's right. I have no money. I'm not funny. I live in a studio apartment with two other guys.
05:01And I'm pretty sure I'm infertile.
05:08Number 16. Jennifer Coolidge as Amanda Buffamontese.
05:12Hi! It's so nice to see you. Both of you, look at me. Look how young I look.
05:21It's always an absolute delight to watch this icon on our screens.
05:25Her friend's character, Amanda, was a self-obsessed blonde bombshell with a lousy British accent.
05:31She used to be roommates with Phoebe and Monica and meets up with them after a long time.
05:36Unfortunately, Amanda turns out to be a harbinger of chaos and tells Monica about how Phoebe almost stopped being friends
05:42with her.
05:42Oh, bugger. Should I not have said that? I feel like a perfect arse.
05:50This causes a rift between the two ladies, but it ultimately brings them closer.
05:55Jennifer Coolidge's signature sass, larger-than-life screen presence, and unbeatable comedic talent make her cameo unforgettable.
06:02Her British accent has a fandom of its own, too.
06:04So, Monica, you're married.
06:06Yeah, yeah. His name is Chandler.
06:08Oh, smell my neck.
06:10Mmm. It's not perfume.
06:12It's me. It's my natural scent.
06:18Number 15. George Clooney and Noah Wiley as Dr. Michael Mitchell and Dr. Jeffrey Rosen.
06:24Yeah, you know, I know it's pretty selfish, but, hey, that's me.
06:31A petty fight led to Monica and Rachel fumbling two of the most handsome men ever.
06:35The ER stars play doctors who go on a double date with Geller and Green after meeting them at a
06:40hospital.
06:41Rachel was getting her ankle checked, but had switched identities with Monica so she could use her insurance.
06:46Later, during the date, the girls are worked up about their name swap and can't stop throwing shade at each
06:52other as each other.
06:53So, Monica, what do you do?
06:54Uh, I am a, uh, chef at a restaurant uptown.
06:58Oh, good for you.
06:59Yeah, it is.
07:02Mostly because I get to boss people around, which I just love to do.
07:07Meanwhile, the docs grow hilariously uncomfortable.
07:10George and Noah are perfect heartthrobs here.
07:13Clooney's suave demeanor and Wiley's sweetheart charms give us all the butterflies.
07:18It's a pity the double date did not go well.
07:21I used to wet my bed.
07:24I used my breasts to get other people's attention.
07:27We both do that.
07:34Number 14.
07:35Terry Garr as Phoebe Abbott.
07:37Look, there's Frank.
07:39Yeah, yes, yes, yes, that's my dad.
07:41That's for Frank.
07:42Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm getting all flinging.
07:45Oh, okay.
07:46Take it easy.
07:47If you want those cookies on the counter or sangria, I could make sangria.
07:51The Tootsie actress played a very important role in Friends.
07:55She was Phoebe's birth mother, who hadn't been a part of her life until her daughter tracked her down.
08:00Right from her first appearance, the resemblance was striking.
08:03The Phoebes didn't just look alike, but their mannerisms and even their voices were similar.
08:08So when Abbott revealed that she was actually Buffet's mother and not just her parents' friend, it made total sense.
08:15Okay.
08:17I'm your mother.
08:21Eh?
08:24So, you know, I wanted to tell you yesterday, but I just, you know, I felt all floopy.
08:31The mother-daughter duo's relationship starts rocky, but they slowly mend things.
08:36Terry Garr is so fitting as Phoebe Abbott that it's a testament to the show's picture-perfect casting.
08:41She matches Lisa Kudrow's energy and compliments her style of comedy.
08:45No one but Garr could have made this role as unforgettable as it is.
08:48I gave them the puppy and it made them so happy that I decided I'm going to carry their baby.
08:54A Phoebe?
08:55No, no, no, I know.
08:56You and I are totally different people, though.
08:58And this is a totally different situation.
09:01And I know that I am not going to regret this.
09:04Oh, I understand all that.
09:07It's just, that was my puppy.
09:11Number 13.
09:12Freddie Prinze Jr. as Sandy.
09:14Who wants to be Mr. Wiggle Munch?
09:15And who's going to be the Grumpers?
09:17Okay, okay, how exactly is a two-month-old supposed to appreciate puppets?
09:23Actually, studies have shown that the movement and colors help their cerebral development.
09:27The whimsical characters are just for us.
09:32A handsome, kind, empathetic, entertaining nanny who knows what he's doing and gets along with everyone?
09:38That's a dream come true for any parent.
09:41Well, except for Ross, apparently.
09:43When Rachel hires Sandy, the aforementioned nanny, to care for Emma,
09:47Ross is miffed.
09:48He thinks he's too sensitive and can't wrap his head around the idea of a man being a child's caregiver.
09:54Well, you're the one who wants to fire him, so you're going to have to go do it.
09:59So you see, Wiggle Munch, that's why it's important to share.
10:07I am learning so much from you.
10:10The fact that he's a dreamboat?
10:12Hello, Freddie Prinze Jr., favored by Rachel and even approved by Joey, potentially added to his dislike.
10:19Just as Ross is about to let Sandy go, the manny gets him to open up about his emotional wounds
10:24instead.
10:25At that point, he probably understood what the Sandy hype was all about.
10:29It's all right.
10:31Crying is good.
10:33It lets the boo-hoo's out.
10:37Here comes the more!
10:40Number 12.
10:41Reese Witherspoon as Jill Green.
10:43Oh my God, introduce us.
10:46But this is Chandler.
10:48Hi.
10:48And you know Monica and Ross?
10:50And that's Phoebe and that's Joey?
10:52Hey, how you doing?
10:53Don't you?
10:55We can never have enough of this queen.
10:58Reese Witherspoon plays Rachel's youngest sister, Jill, in Friends, and the role was tailor-made for her.
11:03She absolutely nails Jill's spoiled, bratty princess vibe.
11:07I don't think charging new clothes to your dad qualifies as making it on your own.
11:12Oh, Mr. Scientist has to get all technical.
11:15From shopping with daddy's money to going after Ross just because Rachel told her not to,
11:20this green had quite a few red flags.
11:23That being said, Reese delivers such a fun performance that we're too entertained to judge her character.
11:28Sure, she kissed Ross to prove she could have him,
11:31but it also made him realize he wanted something with Rachel again.
11:35We'll count that as a win.
11:36It's probably because I'm not mature enough or smart enough.
11:40Maybe he doesn't like the way I dress.
11:42No, that can't be it.
11:44It's really gotta be the smart thing.
11:46Number 11.
11:48Billy Crystal and Robin Williams as Tim and Tomas.
11:52It's a little crowded.
11:54Do you mind if we sit here?
11:55Could you scooch?
11:56Oh.
11:56Move over just a little bit.
11:58Good afternoon.
11:59Keep on scooching.
12:01Friends did viewers a great service by putting these two legends together and letting them do their thing.
12:07Billy Crystal and Robin Williams make a very short joint cameo in the show,
12:11and it is said that their entire scene was improvised.
12:13Apparently, the Father's Day stars just happened to be near the Friends set one day
12:17when they were asked to join an episode, and they obliged.
12:20The resulting bit, where their characters, Tim and Tomas,
12:24have an unhinged personal conversation publicly, was riotous.
12:28What's the matter?
12:28Tim, I have a feeling my wife is sleeping with her gynecologist.
12:38How do you know?
12:39Well, you know.
12:40He's got access.
12:43Despite their limited screen time,
12:45Crystal and Williams brilliantly showcased their comedic genius.
12:48Their chemistry, the way they played off of each other,
12:51and, of course, Robin's accent,
12:53created one of the best scenes in Friends history.
12:56Give me this thing, all right?
12:58Give me this thing, all right?
12:59Enough.
13:00And you are no longer my friend.
13:03We are finished.
13:04Now, no more.
13:05You are a bastard for doing that.
13:07Come on.
13:07Get away from me.
13:08Come on.
13:09Come on.
13:15Oh, well, I thought that we were...
13:18Yeah, well, that didn't really work out too well for it, did you, idiot?
13:22Soon after Ross and Rachel break up, and break our hearts,
13:26Rachel brings Tommy to Joey's play.
13:28On the surface, things seem well, but in reality,
13:31Tommy's got a real and not-so-secret rage that only Ross can see, at first.
13:36Eventually, though, Ross is proven right when Tommy loses his mind on some unsuspecting victims.
13:41Mr. Fuzzy Man, how you doing?
13:44Oh.
13:45Oh.
13:45Ew.
13:46Oh.
13:46Ew.
13:48Gross.
13:50Idiot!
13:52Stupid little fuzzy yellow creature!
13:54Stiller is no stranger to comedy,
13:56and his ability to take his energy from 0 to 100 and back down again with only Ross as a
14:01witness,
14:02is just what we like to see.
14:04All we know is that no one can yell like Ben Stiller.
14:07Tell me it's iced coffee.
14:10It's hot.
14:11Hot coffee!
14:13You idiot!
14:14You gonna spill hot coffee all over me, huh?
14:16What are you, just a big, dumb, stupid, doofy idiot with a doofy idiot hairdo, huh?
14:22Huh?
14:23Number 9.
14:24Julia Roberts as Susie Moss.
14:26Excuse me.
14:26Uh-uh.
14:27Oh.
14:29Uh, is your name Chandler?
14:31Uh, yes.
14:32Yes, it is.
14:33Chandler Vane.
14:35Do you know me, or are you just really good at this game?
14:38I'm Susie Moss.
14:40Fourth grade.
14:41Glasses.
14:42I used to carry around a box of animal crackers like a purse.
14:46Susie Moss.
14:47All right, yeah.
14:48We knew Friends was a heavy hitter when only midway through its second season,
14:52it aired a two-parter episode that featured not just one, but six guest stars and scored 52.9 million
14:59viewers.
15:00While Jean-Claude Van Damme brings the laughs, to say nothing of Chris Isaac, Fred Willard, and Dan Castellaneta,
15:06the standout for us is Julia Roberts.
15:08Here's an idea.
15:11Have you ever worn women's underwear?
15:15Well, yes, actually, but, uh, they were my Aunt Edna's.
15:21She plays Susie Moss, a girl from Chandler's past who ends up playing a part in his present.
15:26Roberts was dating Friends star Matthew Perry when this episode was filmed,
15:30and their chemistry was visibly electric.
15:33I was Susie Underpants till I was 18!
15:37I was in the fourth grade!
15:39How could you still be upset about that?
15:41Well, um, why don't you call me in 20 years and tell me if you're still upset about this?
16:04Chandler Bing is a complex fellow, and he comes from a broken home thanks in part to his parents' affair
16:10with the pool boy.
16:10Well, that sounds like a character we'd love to meet, and the brilliant minds behind Friends nailed the casting.
16:16In the role of the senior Bing is the sultry-voiced Kathleen Turner,
16:20who picks up on her real-life status as a gay icon to play Chandler's drag queen parent.
16:24Oh, turn around, darling. Let me see your pretty face.
16:33Can we have our drinks, please? Uh, waiter? Tris?
16:38We can certainly see where the younger Bing gets his wonderful singing voice.
16:42We're not sure which pun we like better,
16:44the stage name Hell in a Handbasket,
16:46or that the burlesque show is called Viva Las Vegas.
16:57Number 7. Alec Baldwin as Parker
16:59I hope you don't think I'm crazy, but I feel like I was meant to pick this up.
17:03Do you believe in that kind of thing?
17:06A little. Now you're talking.
17:10For the one in Massapequa, Friends brought in a native Massapequan Alec Baldwin to portray Parker,
17:16Phoebe's annoyingly positive boyfriend.
17:19Parker is one of those people who can see the silver lining in a hailstorm,
17:23but one you might want to lightly punch in the face.
17:25We probably should get going.
17:29Classic Ross.
17:33Rachel, Rachel, look how you glow. May I?
17:37I think you already are.
17:40Rachel, you have life growing inside you.
17:43Is there anything in this world more miraculous than, ooh, a picture of a dog? Who's this?
17:48It was really Baldwin's first chance since SNL to show off his comedic chops,
17:52and he proved he knew how to time align perfectly here.
17:55His signature blend of sarcasm is traded in for a sincerity that only a kid on a sugar rush would
18:00have.
18:01He's like Santa Claus, on Prozac, at Disneyland, getting laid.
18:05Now there's a mental picture. Click.
18:07It's like I want to take a mental picture of you all. Click.
18:13Number 6. Susan Sarandon as Cecilia Munro, Jessica Lockhart.
18:18That was a great scene. And that slap looks so real. How do you do that?
18:23Oh, just years of experience.
18:25Can I get some ice here?
18:27Who's good at slapping, throwing drinks in people's faces, and owning a room?
18:32Susan Sarandon.
18:33In this episode, she portrays legendary Days of Our Lives actress Cecilia Munro,
18:38whose character Jessica Lockhart is killed off in order to bring Joey's doctor,
18:42Drake Ramore, out of his coma, thanks to a brain transplant.
18:45My character is coming out of his coma.
18:50And not only that, I'm getting a new brain.
18:55So great things are happening at work and in your personal life.
19:00We totally get why Matt LeBlanc would be nervous about acting alongside a pro like Sarandon,
19:05but he definitely rises to the occasion in this super-sized episode,
19:08in which Cecilia helps bring out his inner Jessica inside of Drake's body.
19:13And guess what? She nabbed an Emmy nomination for her efforts.
19:17I bet that you could own a few places down there.
19:21You know, I tell you, I should probably buy a place in the city first.
19:28And I just got what you're meant to get.
19:29That is a... I'll tell you, that's a tricky one.
19:31That's a tricky one.
19:33Number 5. Gary Oldman as Richard Crosby.
19:37You wouldn't happen to have a very big fork.
19:41If you're going to get spit on, it may as well be by someone famous.
19:45As questionable as Joey Tribbiani's acting talents may be,
19:49he's had some impressive co-stars, including greats like Charlton Heston.
19:53But perhaps Joey's best work came next to Shakespearean actor Richard Crosby,
19:58as played by the chameleonic Gary Oldman,
20:00who teaches Tribbiani the mark of a good actor.
20:16Oldman and Matt LeBlanc's work together here was much more successful
20:20than their previous efforts in Lost in Space.
20:22At least, Oldman earned an Emmy nod for Friends.
20:25It may not be an Academy Award, but he earned one of those eventually anyway.
20:37Number 4. Christina Applegate as Amy Green.
20:40Do you have a hair straightener?
20:43Um, hi!
20:46Hi!
20:48Hair straightener.
20:50When we met Rachel's youngest sister Jill back in Season 6,
20:53we didn't think there was room for any more personality in her family.
20:56But man, were we wrong.
20:58Amy, as played by Christina Applegate,
21:01is Rachel's younger, intensely honest sister,
21:04and a true Erin Brockovich, at least according to her.
21:07Well, how hard could it be? You do it.
21:09Ooh, hoo, hoo, hoo.
21:14Do you want to know why you don't want me to have the baby?
21:17Uh-huh.
21:18Because you don't want me to be happy.
21:20You have always been jealous of me.
21:23Originally, the writers wanted to bring Reese Witherspoon back for another appearance.
21:27But when she was unavailable,
21:29they turned to longtime sitcom actress Applegate to fill out the green family tree.
21:33The result gave us a character we love to hate,
21:35and gave Applegate a Primetime Emmy Award.
21:38So you're going to give me the baby?
21:40No, I was going to let you use my Ralph Lauren discount.
21:46You are not going to regret this.
21:51Number 3. Danny DeVito as Officer Roy Goodbody.
21:56Ooh, that's a lot of stares.
22:00Who are you going to call when your best friend demands a stripper?
22:02Fast. Danny DeVito, obviously.
22:05The second we hear that goofy baritone voice on the other side of that door,
22:09we are excited.
22:10For all the wrong reasons.
22:12Not only did DeVito and his expert comedy chops
22:15completely steal the spotlight from a well-established cast,
22:18he earned an Emmy nod in the process.
22:22Oh, this is so hot!
22:28Oh, no, no, no, stop!
22:31Have to.
22:33Officer Goodbody has got the moves,
22:35and wears his heart on his tearaway sleeve.
22:38So we couldn't be happier that Phoebe demanded pee-pees
22:40flying about at her bachelorette party.
22:42Tainted love will never sound the same.
22:45Get away from the pain you're driving
22:48to love me, the love we shall see to go.
22:54Number 2. Bruce Willis as Paul Stevens.
22:57Okay, look, Ross.
23:00Just so you know, since Lizzie likes you so much,
23:03I decided to accept the fact that you're going out with her.
23:05Really? Okay, that's great.
23:07Yeah.
23:08But then I changed my mind.
23:10Funny like that.
23:12For how much the friends say they love Die Hard,
23:15it's all too hilarious to bring in John McClane himself.
23:18He's still a macho man,
23:20but his performance is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions.
23:23From a neat guy to chicken boy,
23:26how'd they pull that off?
23:27Oh, I couldn't eat now.
23:29What are you talking about?
23:31You love their Kung Pao chicken.
