00:30Расш of injuries, including their two-time MVP.
00:33It's a hamstring for Lamar Jackson.
00:35He's out, so Cooper Rush gets the nod for the Ravens.
00:38Yeah, when you start out 1-3, the pressure ramps up.
00:41And it ramps up significantly more when your starting quarterback star player is out.
00:45Cooper Rush has to step in.
00:47He was brought in for this exact situation.
00:49He's 9-5 as a starter in this league, and they knew that this was a possibility,
00:53so they wanted a guy with stability who's done it before in the league.
00:56His job today, distribute to the playmakers on that offense.
01:01And at the end of warm-ups, Evan spoke with Rush.
01:05Cooper, you have plenty of experience stepping in for a franchise quarterback.
01:09What do you need to do in this game to keep this offense running?
01:12Yeah, just execute.
01:13Play ball.
01:14One play at a time.
01:15It's a cliche, but it's football.
01:17It's true.
01:18Just go be yourself.
01:19How can Derrick Henry help you in this offense against the Texans?
01:22Yeah, he can help anybody at all times.
01:24One of the best to ever do it.
01:25Hand it to that guy and let him go.
01:27Cooper, thanks.
01:27All right, thank you.
01:28Yeah, Evan, I would say Cooper Rush has the right idea.
01:31Feed the ball to number 22.
01:33Derrick Henry has had a lot of success against the Houston Texans in his career.
01:38Unfortunately, I know that all too well.
01:40But he needs the ball in his hands.
01:41He had 169 yards in that first game against Buffalo.
01:44Hasn't had the success since.
01:46Today, they need him to get rolling.
01:47It was a shutout win for Houston last week.
01:51And this team has played lights out defensively.
01:53They're number one currently in the NFL in points allowed.
01:56Yeah, and a big reason for that is they're two edges and they're two corners.
01:59I think it's the best combination of edges and corners in this league.
02:02We'll start up front.
02:03Will Anderson Jr. and Daniil Hunter, they complement each other.
02:06Will goes high.
02:07Daniil goes low.
02:08They squeeze the pocket in for the sack and the fumble here.
02:11And then you flip it over to the back end.
02:13Derrick Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lasseter.
02:15Two guys who just suffocate receivers as they go down the field.
02:19Derrick Stingley Jr. got the big contract this offseason.
02:22Well deserved.
02:24Countdown to kickoff continues.
02:25It's the 16th all-time meeting the Texans have never won here in Baltimore.
02:300-8.
02:31We'll get you ready for all the action coming up on CBS.
02:45It's the NFL on CBS Week 5 as we welcome you to Baltimore.
03:05The Texans and the Ravens coming up with the opening kick.
03:10Sometimes right there.
03:12Tyler Loop will get it started.
03:15The rookie Jalen Knoll out of Iowa State is the return man.
03:19Baltimore 13-2 all-time against Houston.
03:26We're underway with Knoll from the two.
03:30Fake a little pitch.
03:32Work it to the outside.
03:33Turns the corner and he's out of bounds.
03:35Just shy of the 35 as Loop angled over.
03:38And C.J. Stroud got it going in that fourth quarter last week hoping that it's going to translate over to this week.
03:49Yeah, C.J. talked about unlocking defenses.
03:51And he felt like in the fourth quarter that last week they finally unlocked the Titans defense.
03:55And like you said, Ian, it has not been smooth sailing for this offense who made a change at the coordinator position in the offseason.
04:02Hoping to spark a move from that good to great to elite category.
04:06And it just hasn't clicked yet.
04:07They're looking for something today.
04:09The O.C. is Nick Caley in his first year.
04:11Came over from the Rams previously with New England.
04:15So open up at the 33.
04:21On the give.
04:24Off the stutter step.
04:25And it's Nick Chubb who gets stacked up by Mike Green.
04:29It's a two-yard pickup.
04:31And this is exactly what we were talking about, Ian.
04:34They've been 29th in the NFL in points per game for the Houston offense.
04:38But today they happen to be going against the last defense in the NFL in points per game with 33.
04:43And that defense for Baltimore has been decimated by injuries at every single level.
04:48You have Matt Abouke up front.
04:50You have Roquan Smith in the middle.
04:51You have Kyle Hamilton on the back end all out today.
04:56Texans have suffered close losses to the Rams, the Buccaneers, and the Jaguars by a combined 13 points.
05:03Play action.
05:03The throw.
05:04And a strong one.
05:05Connection made to Nico Collins.
05:07And just like that, Houston is in Baltimore territory.
05:11Tremendous chemistry between Stroud and Collins that we've seen the last couple of years.
05:16You know, we talked to the Ravens this week about what do you need to stop.
05:19And they said, we want to stop the run, but we need to stop Nico Collins in breaking routes.
05:24And then we asked Nico Collins, we said, hey, what's your favorite route to run?
05:28And he said, man, I love that dig.
05:29I love that in breaking dig.
05:31And right here, second play of the game, we already see C.J. Connecting in.
05:37So defensively, T.J. Tampa is in.
05:40Reuben Lowry is in.
05:42That's a deep shot, and it's too far over the head of Nico Collins.
05:45You mentioned it.
05:47Big names out of action for the Baltimore Ravens.
05:50These are the inactives.
05:52No Lamar Jackson.
05:53Patrick Ricard has missed the entire season thus far.
05:56Ronnie Stanley not playing today.
05:58And then defensively, Smith, Hamilton, Humphrey, Awuzie.
06:02In the locker room, you always love to say, we'll never use injuries as an excuse.
06:06We can't lean on that.
06:07But sometimes you have to look at the list and just say, holy cow, that is a lot of big-name guys sitting out.
06:14And the Texans are trying to take advantage of it.
06:17Stroud.
06:20On again, Nick Chubb banks his way inside out near the 30-yard line.
06:26And there was a whiff there from the veteran John Jenkins.
06:29And then Chubb carries for nine.
06:31John Jenkins right in the middle.
06:33The veteran is going to just stunt over to the other A-gap right up the middle and get in the backfield.
06:38But Chubb makes a miss, gets downhill, and is able to pick up a good chunk of yardage after what looked like might be a tackle for loss.
06:46And then, D'Amico Ryans told us that he's learned that you've got to be flexible as a head coach.
06:52You have a plan on how it's supposed to look.
06:54Then the game goes a different way.
06:56You better adjust.
06:57This is what they visualized for the opening drive.
07:03It's British Brooks, the fullback.
07:06First down.
07:08Second-year man out of North Carolina.
07:11Mostly used on special teams.
07:13And he gets it done.
07:15That'll move the chains.
07:16Yeah, they call Brooks a Swiss army knife.
07:18And he's had to step in for Jakob Johnson, who's out.
07:21He's their normal fullback.
07:22And Brooks steps in and does a myriad of things.
07:25He can block, he can run, he plays special teams.
07:28And right there, it picks up a huge chunk on a short third down.
07:33Cooper Rush waiting to get his chance against this Houston defense.
07:38Keon Martin, rookie out of Louisiana, is in at the nickel spot.
07:42These are some names that you may not be familiar with.
07:46Stroud, good hands on the outside.
07:48And it will be Jaden Higgins, rookie out of Iowa State.
07:51They believe in his upside.
07:53Big frame, 6'4", 214, and soft hands.
08:02They have only been in the red zone six times this season.
08:07Which is obviously not good enough.
08:09Offensive coordinator Nick Cayley talks about that.
08:12But they also haven't had success when they did get down there.
08:15Thankfully last week, they finally got in twice on their two tries.
08:18Let's see what they can do today.
08:19And now the rookie out of USC, Woody March, is in there.
08:22He was terrific last week.
08:24Trying to find an opening.
08:26And he'll come up short of the line to get Keon Martin among those over there.
08:30Limit him to a one-yard pickup.
08:33Woody last week had a bit of a breakout game.
08:35And they said he's taking his opportunities to earn even more opportunities.
08:41So I would imagine we'll see a heavy dose of Woody March today in addition to Nick Chubb in that backfield.
08:46And Woody just brings a different element.
08:48A little bit of that shiftiness, that explosiveness.
08:51And he can also catch the ball well out of the backfield.
08:53And his ability to break tackles, which was on display last week against Tennessee.
08:58Third and short.
08:59Eighth play of the drive.
09:01Fake it.
09:02Stroud flipped it high in the air.
09:04And it's caught by Schultz.
09:07Ridden towards the sideline.
09:09That's another Houston first down.
09:13Longway makes the tackle.
09:14Love this from the Houston offense.
09:16They get a play fake on a third and short.
09:18Catch the defense thinking it might be a run.
09:20Move C.J. Stroud a little bit.
09:22Get him out on the edge.
09:24And he finds just a nice, easy target in Dalton Schultz to pick up the first down.
09:30C.J. Stroud uses that basketball warm-up.
09:33That was a little bit of an ephus.
09:35As he hits the tight end.
09:37Keeps this drive alive.
09:38And Houston's in business.
09:41They are inside the five.
09:43Motion man is Kirk.
09:46On the inside.
09:47Nowhere to go for Marks.
09:50Just fighting to get back to the line of scrimmage.
09:52This clock now is under ten minutes to go here in the first.
09:57Brent Urban, the veteran, in on that stop for John Harbaugh's squad.
10:01Brent Urban, another guy who's filling in and taking on a much bigger role.
10:05It's his 12th year.
10:07Don't know if before the season anybody saw him stepping into that starting role.
10:10But he's had to in what Kyle Van Nooy called the misfits on defense.
10:17Second and goal now for the Texans.
10:19Opening drive.
10:23Fake it.
10:24Throw it.
10:25It's caught.
10:26For the touchdown.
10:27Xavier Hutchinson puts the Texans on the board.
10:31That was easy.
10:37The 32nd ranked defense in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens fans unfortunately looked like it on that drive.
10:43A team that has been struggling, potentially unlocked it last week.
10:47Looks like they've unlocked it early in this game with Houston.
10:51Just having their way down the field on the first drive of the game and capping it off with a little touchdown.
10:57It was Reuben Lowry who was there defensively.
10:59That's a ten-play, 66-yard drive.
11:03And now Fairbairn on for the extra point.
11:09A Texans team that averages 16 points per game through the first four weeks.
11:15And they put seven on the board to open things up.
11:21They have taken the life out of this crowd early.
11:25C.J. Stroud on time consistently on this drive.
11:30Texans take the lead.
11:34The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Capital One.
11:40What's in your wallet?
11:43FanDuel.
11:44Play your game.
11:46And by Taco Bell.
11:51Last meeting, Christmas Day of last year.
11:59Utter domination by the Ravens.
12:0231-2 the final.
12:04Today here at M&T Bank Stadium, it's Houston that gets the upper hand.
12:08Opening drive, touchdown.
12:09And now they will kick it off with Fairbairn.
12:12Ali and Mitchell are deep.
12:16Keaton Mitchell active for the first time this season for Baltimore.
12:19This one placed to Mitchell from the two.
12:35Tries to work that sideline and he is out of bounds, shy of the 30-yard line.
12:41So, no Lamar Jackson today.
12:44It is Cooper Rush's show for Baltimore.
12:47What's the expectation level of him running this offense?
12:49Ryan, he was brought in for this exact situation because he is calm, composed.
12:54He's 9-5 when he starts in this league and they knew that they might need this at some point.
12:59So, he's going to come in here.
13:00He's going to hand the ball off to Derrick Henry.
13:02He's going to distribute the ball to the playmakers on offense and just try and run an efficient operation today.
13:08He faced the Texans last year as a member of the Cowboys in Week 11.
13:12He threw it 55 times, 354 yards, a touchdown and a pick.
13:17That was a Dallas loss to the Texans.
13:20Handoff to Henry.
13:21They try to push the pile and he carries it to the 25 for no game.
13:27What stands out for you here?
13:29I mean, the Houston defense has obviously been playing phenomenal football so far this year.
13:33Number one in the NFL in scoring defense, only 12.8 points per game.
13:37But, Derrick Henry has had success against Houston throughout his career.
13:42Four games with over 200 rushing yards.
13:45Unfortunately, I'm a little too up close and personal with a few of those.
13:49Yeah.
13:49But, that's what they're going to need today.
13:51A huge performance out of Derrick Henry.
13:53We have a lot of graphics that illustrate that.
13:55Sorry, JJ.
13:56Let's leave him on the cutting room.
13:57No, we're just going to apologize in advance.
13:59Flagged out.
13:59Just as Hill is in.
14:01And Hill with a good carry across the 30.
14:05It's a five-yard pickup.
14:06We mentioned no Ronnie Stanley today.
14:08It's Joe Noteboom, the former Los Angeles Ram who's in there at left tackle.
14:13And Land Clark is our referee today.
14:17Illegal motions.
14:19Offense number 80 is moving forward at the snap.
14:22Five-yard penalty.
14:23Second down.
14:24And that's Isaiah likely the tight end.
14:26So, even when something good happens for Baltimore, it really doesn't.
14:31Yeah.
14:31And this is not what you want when you've got the backup quarterback filling in and you want
14:35to get on rhythm and get off to a hot start.
14:37Putting yourself behind the sticks isn't great.
14:39And then you also have the matchup of Daniil Hunter versus Noteboom who's filling in for Ronnie Stanley that we should be watching today.
14:46Two tight ends in this formation.
14:48Andrews and Kohler.
14:49Henry is back in there.
14:50Rush to throw it.
14:52And he hits Flowers.
14:53Flowers bounces off a tackle.
14:56And he's brought down at the 30.
14:58When we talked to Cooper Rush about his approach, he said,
15:02A high school coach once told me,
15:04Get the ball to the fast guys and you'll be fine.
15:07That stuck with me.
15:09Mission accomplished, high school coach.
15:11Because he's listening to you.
15:12That's what you need to do today.
15:14Put the ball in Zay Flowers' hands.
15:15He's incredible.
15:16After the catch and right there.
15:18That little move is so difficult to defend.
15:21Three guys converging on him.
15:23Not a single lays a hand on him.
15:24So a nine-yard pickup sets up a third down and five with a four-receiver set.
15:31Cooper Rush, 31 years old in his ninth year in the league.
15:34And that one is on time to Andrews.
15:39First down, Baltimore.
15:41Crowd reacts.
15:42Kalen Bullock with a hit.
15:45Take a look at this pocket.
15:47This offensive line is going to do a really nice job for Cooper Rush,
15:50keeping that Texans front out so he has time to look over the middle
15:54and deliver to Mark Andrews.
15:56Really nice job.
15:58That's what they have to do today.
15:59If they give him time, he can put the ball where it needs to go.
16:03We asked Cooper Rush.
16:05What's your mindset?
16:06He said, just be yourself.
16:08Gets hectic when the starter goes down.
16:09Remain calm.
16:11Not much there for Henry, who falls forward for a gain of one.
16:15Barnett and Al Shire combined to bring him down.
16:19So this is since Lamar Jackson has become the full-time starter.
16:24They've gone three and nine without him.
16:26Their points per game certainly way down.
16:28And the total yards per game down as well.
16:31It's not the same offense with anybody in there compared to Lamar.
16:37But in the past, they tried to have backups that could fit within the same style.
16:43Cooper Rush, different kind of quarterback.
16:45So that was a clear, conscious decision by the Ravens.
16:48Rush going on the move.
16:51And hits his man, Kohler.
16:53Texans believe there was a bobble there.
16:57But Kohler brings it in cleanly into Houston territory.
17:01He's initially going to look in the flat here to Zay Flowers, who's covered up.
17:06And he checks to his next read.
17:08And delivers a nice throw on the move for a first down.
17:12Doing a really good job so far.
17:14Like you said, Ayn.
17:15Yes, he is a different quarterback than Lamar.
17:18But they had those conversations when they signed him this offseason.
17:21And told him what that vision would be if he did get in.
17:24That's a 10-yard completion.
17:25Even Rush was surprised when the Ravens called during free agency.
17:29Hand it to Henry.
17:31And he bangs inside to the 44.
17:35That's a gain of four.
17:36Hit by Barnett.
17:37NFL Today update.
17:38Let's go to New York and Adam Schein.
17:40Iron Jackson darts.
17:42Little play action.
17:43Hits your guy, Theo Johnson.
17:45Dart 5-5.
17:4744 yards on the drive.
17:487-0 Giants back to you.
17:51So far, Dart bringing the juice for the Big Blue.
17:56Three tight ends in this formation.
17:58Ravens are on the move now inside the Houston 45.
18:03Hand it off.
18:05Henry could not get any kind of momentum.
18:08And he is swung down for no gain on the play by Toho Toho.
18:13You're going to see here, look at all these people just in the box.
18:17Everybody is so tight in here.
18:20It almost brings the defense's eyes and everything just in.
18:24And then you try and run Derrick Henry right up the middle.
18:26You've got the defense all condensed.
18:28It's almost better if you're able to spread them out a little bit to try and create some space.
18:32Because Derrick Henry is a downhill runner.
18:35One cut, put his foot in the ground, and go.
18:37Brings up a third down and six for Baltimore.
18:40Opening drive for the Ravens.
18:41Texans already with a 7-0 lead.
18:44Rush.
18:45Shotgun.
18:46Rush is on.
18:46Rush hangs in there.
18:47It's complete.
18:48De'Andre Hopkins, the former Texan.
18:53Flag down.
18:57EJ Speed came oh so close to getting to the QB rush.
19:05De'Andre Hopkins, he even gets held.
19:08No problem.
19:08He gets off of it.
19:09And he's got some of the...
19:10Defense number four.
19:12The 30s decline.
19:13Reversing the plays.
19:14The first down.
19:15It's going to stand as a 30-yard completion.
19:17Defensive holding.
19:19And Cooper Rush delivering despite taking a big hit after a nice stunt up front.
19:24Stands in the pocket, delivers, and hop.
19:27Houston fans know all too well he's got some of the best hands in the NFL on display there.
19:32Did not have a catch last week.
19:33That snapped a streak of 181 games with at least one reception.
19:38Eighth longest of all time.
19:40Keaton Mitchell gets to the edge.
19:44Lost his footing at the end of the play.
19:46But they love what Mitchell brings.
19:49That acceleration.
19:50The quick cuts.
19:51He's dealt with a bunch of injuries in his young career.
19:54This is a guy that Ravens fans have been looking forward to seeing.
19:59Get the ball in his hands a little bit more.
20:01And here, just a little jet sweep motion.
20:05And he delivers on a perimeter run.
20:08Picking up a nice chunk of yardage.
20:09Six-yard pickup.
20:11Second down and four from the 10.
20:14Rush on a give.
20:14And Henry, once again, could not get a running start.
20:18They got him down low.
20:20And it was Will Anderson, Jr.
20:22We asked Amico Ryans, how do you deal with Henry?
20:24He said, you build a wall up front.
20:26Play with awareness.
20:27He's not a start-stop kind of guy.
20:29He doesn't want to break stride.
20:31So, check his feet.
20:32Yeah, they want to get him checking his feet behind the line.
20:36Just like you said, Ian.
20:37Because once he gets ahead of steam downhill,
20:39he is unbelievably hard to tackle.
20:42And once he gets out on the edges, he has that stiff arm.
20:44But today, so far, he only has five carries for six yards.
20:47So, they've been effective doing that.
20:49It's just the Cooper Rush on this first drive has looked very good.
20:52And this is the 11th play of the drive for Baltimore.
20:54They go empty.
20:55Rush with a quick hitter.
20:56Into the hands of Flowers.
20:57Flowers makes a man miss.
20:59But can't get through that second wave.
21:01And now, it's fourth down.
21:04They are going to bring out the field goal unit.
21:08Daniil Hunter was among those trying to chase him down.
21:12Lamar Jackson fully engaged in the process.
21:14Was looking at the players on his own wristband
21:16and going through the mental reps of playing this game.
21:20Yeah, and I think he's got to be happy with what he's seen
21:23from the guy filling his role today.
21:25Cooper Rush with the first drive.
21:27Moved the team down the field.
21:29May not put it in the end zone.
21:30But a lot of confidence built up on that drive for this offense.
21:33It's a short kick.
21:3427 yards for the rookie from Arizona.
21:37Tyler Loop.
21:39And Loop's field goal is good.
21:45Baltimore with points on its opening drive.
21:49They trail the Texans 7-3.
21:52First quarter action continuing after this.
21:54The amazing shots of today's game are provided by Nationwide.
22:05Back here in Baltimore.
22:06Strong drive by the Ravens and Cooper Rush.
22:09They had to settle for the short field goal.
22:11The 12th play, 71 yards.
22:13Rush was 5 of 5 for 69 yards.
22:16And now Loop will kick it off.
22:21Smith and Noel are deep.
22:23And it's Smith on the return.
22:26Gets hit from the side and he's brought down at the 31-yard line.
22:31Prior to the game, a moment of silence inside M&T Bank Stadium.
22:35Remembering Arthur Jones, former defensive tackle and Super Bowl champion with the Ravens,
22:41unexpectedly passed away on Friday at the age of 39.
22:46Highly respected.
22:47Everybody associated with the Ravens talked about his positivity and the influence and impact he had in the locker room and out on the field.
23:00Nick Chubb opens up at the tailback position on this drive.
23:04Stroud operating from the gun.
23:05He will fire it underneath.
23:08And hits the tight end Schultz for a 9-yard pickup.
23:12Check in with Evan Washburn.
23:13The injuries on defense mean new roles.
23:16So, rookie Ted Buchanan, the fourth rounder out of Cal.
23:18He's got the green dot, which means he has the communications from the sideline and Zach Orr to call the plays.
23:24Trent Simpson's his backup.
23:26That's a role that's normally Roquan Smith.
23:28His backup, Kyle Hamilton, Marlon Humphrey, all unavailable.
23:32So, the communication, as we saw on that first drive, something to keep an eye on.
23:36Yeah, no doubt about it.
23:37Just the operation itself.
23:39Nice hop step there.
23:41And you've got the veteran Chubb, who has put up outstanding numbers throughout his career.
23:48That's a five-yard gain for the four-time Pro Bowler.
23:52Remember also, J.J., playing it without Joe Mixon, who had such a huge impact on this run game and in the leadership department last year.
24:00He did.
24:00There's been a lot of talk about the changes in the Texans' offense from their offensive coordinator to Laramie Tunstall.
24:06But Joe Mixon not being out there has been a big change.
24:10And they're hoping that Woody Marks can kind of fill that role as an addition to Nick Chubb.
24:14Extra offensive lineman here.
24:16Blake Fisher handed off to Jum.
24:19That he will fight his way towards midfield.
24:22He picks up three yards.
24:25All right.
24:25And it's very interesting what Evan reported about the green dot.
24:29Because they're giving it to Teddy Buchanan, who's a rookie.
24:31Obviously, that role is normally Roquan Smith, calling the defense in the middle.
24:35And if he can't do it, it's Kyle Hamilton.
24:37But that is an extremely important role in a defense.
24:40He gets the call from the coordinator.
24:42He disseminates that call throughout the defense.
24:44Then he has to get everybody lined up and get himself lined up.
24:47There's a lot that goes on in addition to being out of breath and tired.
24:51So a lot to put on a rookie's shoulders today.
24:53And excellent use of the word disseminates.
24:55Thank you.
24:56Big, big Wisconsin education.
25:01All right.
25:01Let's end it on that note in the first quarter.
25:03We'll disseminate what we need to do differently in the second quarter
25:07from a broadcast standpoint.
25:097-3.
25:10The Texans in front on CBS.
25:14The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Buffalo Wild Ways.
25:20Get pick six for $19.99.
25:23And by Lowe's.
25:25Tackle your to-do list early with Lowe's to earn your Sunday.
25:33Back here in Charm City where the Texans lead the Ravens 7-3.
25:37Ian Eagle, J.J. Watt, Evan Washburn, the rest of our NFL on CBS crew.
25:42Producer Ken Mack, Director Suzanne Smith and company.
25:46Texans look good in that first quarter on the opening drive.
25:51C.J. Stroud is now 5 of 6, 56 yards and a touchdown.
25:55Hutchinson with his first career touchdown in that opening quarter
26:00in his third year in the NFL.
26:02They have a bunch of Iowa State wide receivers,
26:04including Xavier Hutchinson, Noel, and Higgins as well.
26:11Stroud to throw it.
26:12He does.
26:13A little soft toss, and it's dropped by Chubb.
26:15Low throw.
26:16Couldn't be handled.
26:17Sets up third down.
26:18They sent all three receivers real deep.
26:21The offensive line gives great protection,
26:23and then Nick Chubb just slips out up the middle,
26:27unable to handle it.
26:28Sometimes those are the toughest ones,
26:30the ones that hit you right in the hands.
26:34These two teams both went to the divisional round last year.
26:38It was Houston up against Kansas City.
26:43Texans came up short in a good game, though.
26:4623-14.
26:46Chiefs.
26:48Ravens fell to the Buffalo Bills.
26:51Stroud on third down and seven.
26:53Oh, he put a little heat on it to Dalton Schultz.
26:56It's a first down to the 40-yard line.
26:59Quiets the crowd.
27:01The C.J. Stroud was able to stand in that pocket strong.
27:05An area that the Baltimore Ravens have been missing badly this year is pressure.
27:09They have not been able to get pressure up front.
27:11They only have four sacks, and two of them are on IR with Matibuque.
27:15So they have to find a way to get into this pocket.
27:17And the Texans' offensive line on the other side has been getting stronger and gelling more each game as they go.
27:23So that's going to be a matchup to watch.
27:25If C.J. has time, he will be effective.
27:28Stroud just celebrated his 24th birthday.
27:31Here is Woody Marks cutting to the outside.
27:37Marks is 24 years old himself.
27:40He got blocks from Andrews and Howard to help spring him loose.
27:44He's just going to go out towards the edge here on an outside zone,
27:48and you're going to see great blocks on the edge.
27:50Titus Howard, Dalton Schultz all setting the edge.
27:53Xavier Hutchinson with the touchdown also getting in on the blocking.
27:5611-yard pickup.
27:58Stroud goes to the other side, and it works to Knoll.
28:01He is spreading it around right now.
28:03Keyon Martin with the hit.
28:05As we mentioned, a bunch of backups in there against Baltimore,
28:08and Stroud on the offense is clicking on all cylinders.
28:11Yeah, and like you said, Ian, he has been spreading the ball around.
28:16The offense in the passing game has been Nico Collins heavy so far this year.
28:21So it's nice to see a little bit more diversity in that passing game,
28:25which also keeps the defense on their toes.
28:29Second down and one.
28:31Extra offensive lineman once again.
28:34Stroud on the give.
28:35There's a hole.
28:36Good cut.
28:38Woody Marks with a penalty marker down back at the 12th.
28:4121-yard line, and it's coming back.
28:45It's going to be a hold.
28:50Just inside there, you can see it.
28:52It's Drew Scruggs.
28:54Once your hands get outside the framework of the body,
28:57they're going to call that every time.
29:02Scruggs has been playing at the left guard position.
29:04It was formally occupied by the veteran, Laken Tomlinson.
29:08There are two fouls by the offense.
29:11Illegal formation.
29:13Offense number 13.
29:14That penalty has declined.
29:16Only offense number 70.
29:1810-yard penalty.
29:19Second down.
29:20And blame it on the juice.
29:27Scruggs in a third year in the NFL.
29:32D'Amico Ryans, when we asked him about the offensive line,
29:35he said,
29:35it's getting better every week.
29:37He gave a lot of credit to Titus Howard,
29:39who he's felt has really stepped up his game
29:41in the leadership category.
29:44You mentioned Laramie Tunsil now,
29:46a member of the Washington Commander.
29:47That was a big decision
29:49to get rid of a pillar at left tackle.
29:52They felt confident
29:53that they were ready for the next chapter.
29:57On a give to Chubb.
30:01So we've seen them mix.
30:02Chubb and Marks.
30:04That one goes for six yards.
30:06Yeah, and I think you see
30:07a little bit of the difference of style
30:08between the two of them
30:09on those last two runs.
30:10Obviously, the holding call brought it back,
30:12but Woody Marks has that lateral agility,
30:14those jump cuts,
30:15and then the explosion
30:16once he sees the hole open up.
30:18Nick Chubb is going to be
30:19more of your power back.
30:20You hand it to him.
30:21He puts his foot in the ground,
30:22comes downhill,
30:23and will deliver a blow.
30:24So they try and use
30:25that little thunder and lightning action,
30:28and then Woody also brings
30:29something out of the backfield,
30:30and actually,
30:31some pretty good pass protection,
30:32which they've been struggling with
30:33at tight-ended running back.
30:34This is now a third and five.
30:38They shift Knoll to the back
30:39of the formation,
30:40and Straub goes down!
30:43Kyle Van Noy
30:45leading the Misfits.
30:47This is just a bust in protection.
30:54You have Kyle Van Noy right here,
30:56and he's going to come completely free.
30:57Woody Marks has two guys,
30:59doesn't know what to do,
31:00and Kyle Van Noy,
31:02they don't ask how you got the sacks,
31:04they just ask how many.
31:07That's not what you want to see
31:08if you're C.J. Stroud.
31:10An untouched Kyle Van Noy
31:12right in your grill.
31:13This is going to be a 50-yard attempt
31:15for Kaimi Fairbairn,
31:18a 10-year veteran.
31:19He is the longest-tenured Texan,
31:22and he's got a long field goal
31:24to add to the Houston lead.
31:2710-3, Texans.
31:3011-18 mark.
31:32Here in the second.
31:32Don't miss the back-to-back season
31:40premieres of Matlock and Elsbeth.
31:42New next Sunday after 60 minutes,
31:44kicking off CBS Premier Week
31:46and streaming on Paramount+.
31:49Stroud took the sack.
31:54D'Amico Ryans,
31:55when we asked him about C.J.,
31:56said, look,
31:57we talk about expectations,
31:58told him you don't have to play hero ball,
32:00just get rid of the ball.
32:01Don't take sacks.
32:03That time he didn't have much of a choice.
32:05No, you would have had to be a superhero
32:06to get out of that one
32:07without taking a sack.
32:10But Texans do build on the lead.
32:14Now a 10-3 advantage here,
32:16early stages,
32:17second quarter.
32:18Fairbairn will kick it off.
32:21Ali and Mitchell
32:22are the deep men for Baltimore.
32:24They are keying in on Mitchell,
32:28who will handle it at the four.
32:30He gets bunched up
32:31and then taken down
32:33as he crosses the 25.
32:36In 2019,
32:36the Ravens launched
32:37Call to Action,
32:39a volunteer day of service,
32:40allowing fans and players
32:41the opportunity to participate
32:43in community service.
32:45This year's Call to Action,
32:47volunteerism,
32:48included a record 60,000 participants
32:50and 11.5 million combined minutes
32:54of service
32:54were tallied
32:55among the Call to Action volunteers.
32:59All right, I think you,
33:00I think you have to actually call it.
33:02Oh, I should say it?
33:03Commit to the bit.
33:04All right.
33:05Caw-caw!
33:07That's it.
33:10That's the bit.
33:11Play action.
33:12Rush.
33:12Rashad Bateman,
33:15the intended receiver there
33:17for Baltimore,
33:18and Al Shire went down
33:20on the play,
33:20and he's still down
33:21right now.
33:23One of the leaders
33:24for this Houston defense
33:27is slow to get up.
33:32Oh.
33:34You're going to see him
33:35in the middle here,
33:36and he just takes a step
33:37right here,
33:37and his leg
33:38goes opposite
33:41of where he wants it to go.
33:42Aziz Al Shire,
33:48who played for D'Amico Ryans
33:50in San Francisco
33:51when Ryans was moving up
33:53the ranks
33:53as a coach,
33:55and there's just a lot of trust
33:58between D'Amico,
33:59the former outstanding linebacker himself,
34:02and a good sign,
34:03Al Shire is
34:04jogging off
34:05to the sideline
34:06for Houston.
34:08And we asked,
34:09who are the vocal leaders
34:10on this defense?
34:10Who are the guys
34:11that step up
34:12when something needs
34:12to be said?
34:13And he said,
34:14Aziz and Will Anderson,
34:15those are the two guys
34:16that the Texans lean on,
34:18so you hope to see him
34:19back out there for them
34:20because he's not only
34:21a great player,
34:23he's also a leader
34:24for that group.
34:25Christian Harris
34:25is a healthy scratch,
34:27inactive today,
34:28so you've got Toto,
34:29you've got EJ Speed.
34:33Yeah, I think there's
34:33a lot of Texans fans
34:34that remember that pick six
34:35and the sack
34:36in the playoff game
34:37in 23 and think,
34:38we might be able
34:39to use that guy out here.
34:41Second down and 10 now
34:42for Baltimore
34:42after the incompletion.
34:46About to give.
34:48Henry trying to get
34:49ahead of steam,
34:50and he's cut down
34:51after the gain of two
34:52by MJ Stewart.
34:53Check in with Evan.
34:54When we talked about
34:55the green dot for the Ravens,
34:56Al Shire wears the green dot
34:58for the Texans,
34:58so communication
34:59under the microscope
35:00here for Totoa.
35:01Also important to remind folks
35:03that Matt Burke
35:04is now calling the defense
35:05for the Texans.
35:06D'Amico Ryans
35:06handed that over
35:08prior to last week's game.
35:09Not a panic move,
35:10but felt like it allowed him
35:11to see the entire team
35:13during game day,
35:14and they've been able
35:15to keep the standard up,
35:16but something to keep an eye on
35:17early in this game,
35:18again with Shire
35:18in that blue tent.
35:20And now a third and eight
35:21for the Ravens
35:22with Rush.
35:24Operating out of the gun,
35:25he's got Hill to his side.
35:26Rush pump.
35:27Rush spins out of trouble.
35:29Tries to spin again,
35:30and he's sacked!
35:32Mario Edwards Jr.
35:35with Will Anderson
35:36supplying the initial heat.
35:42There's a lot going on here.
35:43First, you're going to see
35:44Will Anderson and Daniil Hunter
35:46knock each other off
35:47because they get
35:48into the backfield.
35:49Will Anderson does a nice job
35:50with a little bull and shimmy,
35:51and then it's pure effort
35:52by Mario
35:53as he goes in the back,
35:55and Cooper Rush
35:56has nowhere to go
35:56with the ball.
35:57Just a relentless
35:58front pressure
36:00for the Houston Texans.
36:02It is a loss of 16,
36:04and it pins the Ravens
36:06deep in their own territory
36:07with Stout
36:08trying to get him
36:09out of trouble.
36:09high sailing kick.
36:13Noel backpedals,
36:15brings it in cleanly,
36:16makes one man miss
36:17at the 30,
36:17stops on a dime,
36:19and Noel trying to operate
36:20the other way,
36:21and he's dropped
36:21right around the 34-yard line
36:24with a penalty flag down.
36:27Trenton Simpson
36:28on special teams.
36:29That was a 62-yard kick.
36:31So, Land Clark,
36:38sixth year as a referee,
36:39joined the NFL in 2018.
36:45And having a conversation,
36:46the officials,
36:47with Frank Ross,
36:48the special teams coach
36:49for the Houston Texans.
36:51We should do
36:52official stats,
36:53Iron.
36:53They have how many penalties?
36:55Oh, yeah,
36:55they keep them.
36:58Illini going out of bounds.
37:00Kicking team number 34.
37:02Five-yard penalty.
37:03Replayed.
37:03Fourth down.
37:04Yeah.
37:05So, they're gonna re-kick it.
37:0662-yarder coming back.
37:14It's gonna be
37:14at the bottom of your screen here.
37:19Contact in the white.
37:21When the runner's
37:22out of bounds,
37:22that's gonna be the issue.
37:27So, now,
37:29Stout, who did his job well,
37:31is gonna have to do it again.
37:33You have to try
37:34and get back
37:35into the field of play
37:36immediately
37:36once you're in the white.
37:39And just didn't do that there,
37:41so it'll erase
37:42a great punt
37:43for the Ravens,
37:44and they'll have to
37:44give it another shot.
37:46So, now,
37:47fourth and 29
37:49for Baltimore.
37:50And Stout's gonna set up
37:52with his feet
37:54right at the back
37:55of the end line.
37:59Nick Moore, the snapper.
38:01Not much of a rush.
38:02He didn't get all of this one.
38:03and it does not take
38:05a Baltimore roll.
38:07It bounced around
38:08and Houston's gonna open up
38:11in Ravens territory.
38:13Take two,
38:14not nearly as good
38:15as take one
38:16for Baltimore.
38:18Houston's got a
38:19seven-point lead
38:20with possession
38:20when we come back.
38:21and Houston's got a
38:23seven-point lead.
38:23It's been a shift
38:24in identity
38:25for the Houston Texans
38:26at the beginning
38:27of the season.
38:27What they're doing
38:28defensively
38:29really stands out.
38:31Opening eyes
38:31around the NFL.
38:33Offensively,
38:34not so much.
38:36But,
38:37there's been a change
38:38here in the first half
38:39in Baltimore.
38:41Houston has looked crisp.
38:44And,
38:45first-year
38:46offensive coordinator
38:47Nick Caley
38:48with this new scheme
38:49starting to settle in.
38:51Yeah,
38:52you can see it right there.
38:53The first 37 drives
38:54of the year,
38:54only three touchdowns.
38:56They've got four
38:56on their last six.
38:58Off the boot,
38:59Stroud,
39:00floats one,
39:01two,
39:01Higgins.
39:02That was a 24-yard disparity
39:04from where they would
39:05have had the ball
39:06if there was no penalty
39:07on the initial punt
39:08to where they eventually
39:08got the ball
39:09in Baltimore territory.
39:11That's one of those things
39:12that you don't really
39:13even notice or realize
39:14at the moment,
39:15but is huge.
39:15That's over two first downs
39:17that were gained
39:18just by that little penalty
39:19on the punt coverage team.
39:21And that puts Houston
39:22in advantageous position here
39:25to try and go down
39:26and add some points
39:27to this lead.
39:28They're looking at a second
39:29and four from the Baltimore 35.
39:32Nick Chubb is in.
39:34Chubb gets the call.
39:36Tries to plow
39:37on the inside.
39:39Wouldn't go down
39:40on first contact.
39:41They're going to mark them down
39:42after the gain of one.
39:44Setting up third down.
39:45Malachi Starks,
39:46rookie out of Georgia,
39:48helping to lead that charge.
39:51So now Woody Marks
39:52will come in on third down.
39:54You've got a third and three here
39:55and you can kind of do
39:57whatever you want.
39:57If you want to try
39:58and run the ball,
39:59you can.
40:00If you want to get it out there
40:00in the passing game,
40:01obviously you've got
40:02Kaimi Fairbairn
40:04who has a huge leg
40:05if you opt for the field goal
40:06or it could be
40:07a fourth and short
40:08if you don't get it
40:09that you go for.
40:10So playbook is wide open
40:11for Nick Haley here.
40:12It's a third and three.
40:15Shotgun for Stroud.
40:18Stroud
40:19steps up.
40:20He's going to run.
40:21First down.
40:23Stroud's got more.
40:24Stroud still going
40:25down the sideline
40:26and Stroud looking
40:28for the pylon.
40:30Texans believe
40:31they got a touchdown.
40:33Woody Marks
40:33with a key block
40:34and they're going to
40:36mark him down
40:36just shy of the goal line.
40:43Yep,
40:44just barely out of bounds
40:45before the goal line
40:46but what a run
40:48by CJ Stroud
40:49not something you see him
40:51do too often
40:51but he had man coverage
40:53in front of him
40:53so everybody's back
40:55was turned
40:56to the line of scrimmage
40:57and they didn't even
40:58see him scrambling out
40:59which allowed
41:00for tons of room
41:01for him to then
41:02get down the sideline
41:03and take it all the way
41:04to the...
41:05They're going to mark him
41:06at the four
41:06so he stepped out of bounds
41:08at the four.
41:08That's a 30-yard run.
41:09That's a new career high.
41:13On the give,
41:15Chubb could not redirect
41:16and he gets stacked up.
41:18Brent Urban,
41:20first man there.
41:22Look, there's a certain
41:24standard and reputation
41:26with the Baltimore...
41:26I'm not going to talk about it.
41:28He's not going to be
41:29a certain
41:29standard and reputation
41:30without his temper
41:30except for his
41:30own
41:31he gets seventh
41:31and not
41:32the other
41:32man I'm not going to be
41:33innings ofability
41:33without saying
41:33about it as a
41:35less than a
41:35man.
41:36I'm not going to be
41:37a certain
41:38man.
41:38He's not going to be
41:39a certain
41:39man.
41:40I'm going to be
41:40on the road
41:41and he's not going to be
41:42an situation
