00:00So that was his third target, second catch, obviously a big one for a touchdown, so Sauce Gardner, he's competed well all game, I think there's been a lot of negative around Sauce Gardner this year, but you have to remember, his role in this Aaron Glenn system is not only to match and play man coverage, he's done that his entire career, but for the first time in his career, he's matched up exclusively with the opponent's best receiver, he was not asked to do that in the prior regime.
00:25There's a pitch to Blue, the run of the year is going to be swarmed at the 33, that kickoff though, I was kind of laughing, no I heard you chuckle, it goes into the end zone, you give the Cowboys the ball at the 35 yard line, and you only get three out of it, Aubrey's field goal range is in Secaucus.
00:43Yeah, it's just, listen, there's a emotional feeling of like scoring points, but you're down 30-3, you kick a field goal from the 30, I know it was 4th and 17, it's unlikely that you're going to convert it, but it's unlikely that that three points to make it 30-6 has any bearing, you gave Dallas five more yards of field position for three points when you were down 27, like it just...
01:07Essentially what you're saying is if the Cowboys want those points back, they'll have the opportunity to get those back likely, based on the field position.
01:16I mean, again, it's third down now, so if they convert one first down here, and they get the ball around the logo, you're going to match three for three in a game where you're down by a thousand.
01:2724, but it feels like it.
01:29Hey, get new Little Caesars Cheese Steak Crazy Puffs. They're so good, we ran here to tell you.
01:39Hey, Saquon!
01:41Uh, we ran here?
01:44Try new Cheese Steak Crazy Puffs for $3.99.
01:46Little Caesars is the real deal.
01:47Pizza, pizza.
01:48You've earned this, so hold it up high.
01:5130-6.
01:53Dallas the lead over the Jets.
01:56And the Cowboys are on the ball to start the fourth quarter.
01:58Cowboys trying to get to 2-2-1.
02:00The cumbersome tie in the standings that they left the game with the Packers with by a pair with that last-second throw by Jordan Love into the end zone last week.
02:12Prescott gets drilled, just got absolutely whacked as he released that ball.
02:19That was Jamie and Sherwood that laid him out.
02:23Yeah, nice blitz design.
02:25He started, lined up over the right tackle, Terrence Steele.
02:29Then he looped all the way to the backside of the pass rush.
02:33And this offensive line of Dallas just kind of lost him in the shuffle.
02:38And Dak just couldn't get the ball out of his hand as quickly as he's accustomed to.
02:42And I think he had an open target, just took a big shot.
02:53Anger to kick it away.
02:54And Williams at the 15, 46-yard putt.
03:03He gets a return of 16 as we check in with Carissa.
03:07Thank you, Jason.
03:07Ravens trailing the Texans 34-3, but a bright spot.
03:10Derek Henry punches it in for his 110th career rushing touchdown, which ties him with Walter Payton for fifth most all-time.
03:17Texans in control of this one, though.
03:1841-10 over the Ravens.
03:20A lot of big scores on the board.
03:2441-10.
03:26I mean, you think, you just think about the conversation around Baltimore and how it's just flipped over the last couple weeks.
03:37And then, wow.
03:39Yeah.
03:3941-10.
03:41Injured party is Brooks, by the way.
03:43Oneye Thomas credited with the tackle there.
03:46And it is a big day for his family.
03:49His brother, Azarie, is on the other side for the New York Jets.
03:54Two of five kids in the same family from the Florida Panhandle on the field together.
04:02And a young family, which, as Brees Hall on the run here, ends up short of midfield.
04:09Pre-game, as Thomas makes the tackle there, Oneye does.
04:13This is the family pre-game.
04:15Mom, Stephanie, has been the rock of the family.
04:18Azarie and Oneye Thomas.
04:20I mean, they had, like, nothing, by the way they tell it, as kids.
04:25They slept in cars, in motels.
04:27The family house was lost to a fire as Fields throws incomplete.
04:34You think of that as the backdrop.
04:37And two kids from the same family, let alone from the difficulties they had being on the same NFL field, is a beautiful thing.
04:45Yeah, it gives me chills watching them before the game.
04:48You've got to give a lot of love and shout-out to Mom.
04:50Mom, obviously, what she went through to have two boys not only reach this level, but you could just tell their genuine emotion, their love for one another.
04:59And that's what it's all about.
05:00It's not about how many Super Bowls they end up winning.
05:02The fact that they made it here in the first place is just remarkable.
05:08Fields to throw on second down.
05:11He comes this way to the sideline.
05:13And a juggle for Wilson.
05:16And he did not reel it in.
05:17It'll be third down, coming up one last footnote on the brothers' Thomas.
05:21Wanye said to Azarie, do not call my phone this week.
05:26Oh, look.
05:27And sibling rivalry.
05:28That lasted a couple hours, evidently.
05:30He's blowing up his phone.
05:32I mean, it is one of those days that makes a life for a family that went through the ring.
05:39You can see the emotion there on their faces.
05:41Those are special moments, man, that this league allows to happen.
05:47A double as Araku, drop it off.
05:50It is Davis on the catch and run, and he will spin.
05:54He did not get a favorable spot from the far side official.
05:58So they're going to go hurry up here.
05:59So early in the first half, it was quarterback sneak.
06:02That was their fourth and third and fourth down in short.
06:05Obviously, we saw the play-action pass backfire.
06:08Let's see if they go back to the sneak.
06:10It is a sneak, and it's fields with a marker coming in.
06:14There's a marker in on the snap.
06:18I don't think he got it.
06:19I wonder, did Dallas align in the neutral zone?
06:22Yeah.
06:22That's been a big point of emphasis on these quarterback sneaks.
06:27Officials trying to sort it out.
06:29You could also have an illegal formation.
06:31Less likely.
06:33Rolling on the field is the runner who is short of the line of game.
06:36Offside, offense number 70.
06:38Wow.
06:39Oh, wow.
06:39After what he's declined, the result of the play will be a first down.
06:42My goodness.
06:45That is another fourth down disaster.
06:50I think they're going to get a personal foul on somebody coming off for the change of possession.
06:55This has just been an absolute...
06:58Ragged is the word for it.
07:00Oh, my God.
07:00I was censoring myself.
07:03After the play on sportsmanlike conduct against Dallas, number seven, his first.
07:09This is a 15-yard penalty.
07:11Correction, this way.
07:12This is a 15-yard penalty.
07:14First down.
07:15Wow.
07:17Trayvon Diggs called for it.
07:22Here's what it was.
07:24Oh, wow.
07:25Smith face-to-face went back here.
07:27Let's go back to the fourth down.
07:28Yeah, so watch.
07:28Ezraku, I showed you last time on the fourth down.
07:31He's going to loop all the way around.
07:32But Justin Fields is going sideways on quarterback sneak.
07:37This is good movement from the interior of the offensive line.
07:41Get in behind him and then go back here.
07:44It looked to me like Smith kind of like jacked at him.
07:47It looked like he was the aggressor.
07:49And then Diggs responded.
07:51Yeah, it was that motion that we've seen that signals like you're going to send something the direction of the other person.
07:57Mike Pereira, you've been watching this.
07:58What do you think of that foul call?
07:59Yeah, I think you have to call Smith for a foul.
08:03It's the whole thing.
08:04He initiated this.
08:05Okay?
08:06And it's always so often.
08:08Greg, you know that.
08:08We get the reaction.
08:10You know, and you don't get the guy that really starts the whole thing.
08:15So here, to me, Smith should have been called for a foul.
08:18Yeah.
08:19I agree, Mike.
08:20At the very least, just make it offsetting penalties.
08:23It ends up not really having any impact on the game.
08:26Dallas takes over on offense.
08:28But I agree with Mike.
08:30Dak short set.
08:31Got it to Ferguson again.
08:33And he goes with the pugilism approach against Stevens.
08:37Just punching his way for a couple of yards to set up third down.
08:41Yeah, I don't know that any of the officials saw it.
08:43I mean, the white hat was standing right there.
08:45He.
08:46The 18th penalty is your limit.
08:53Is that how many it's been?
08:54Combined, yeah.
08:55We've had a few to climb.
08:57True.
08:58Yeah!
09:03Here we go, Smith!
09:04Here we go, Smith!
09:07Now I'm kind of more up at the line.
09:10This just covers zero.
09:11They got nobody back here.
09:13They got everybody at the line of scrimmage.
09:15Here they come.
09:17Prescott incomplete.
09:18Oh, if Pickens catches that, he is going to run for a long, long time.
09:26So they drop Will McDonald.
09:28He's the defensive end.
09:29He drops out late.
09:31But look at the space.
09:32It's just cover zero look.
09:35They drop McDonald out late just enough to get into that window.
09:39But then Gardner and McDonald run into each other.
09:43George Pickens hangs on to that ball.
09:44He's got himself another big one for a touchdown.
09:47He saw it, too.
09:51When Pickens looked upfield, and he just saw goalposts, he was thinking a long touchdown.
09:57Instead, it's a punt for anger.
09:58Williams will let it bounce high and out of bounds.
10:04Our NFL doubleheader continues next with America's Game of the Week is Jaden Daniels.
10:09And the Commanders take on Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
10:13Or the Lions against the Bengals right here on Fox.
10:17Lions have bounced back well from the opening loss.
10:23You've got to give Dan Campbell a lot of credit.
10:25I think after that week one, there was a lot of, all right, Ben Johnson's gone.
10:29Aaron Glenn is gone.
10:30Can you guys keep this thing afloat?
10:31And all Jared Goff does is continue to play at a high level.
10:36Dan Campbell manages situations, fourth downs, goal to go.
10:40He manages the modern NFL game probably better than any other coach in the league.
10:43And that is the hope for the Jets, that Aaron Glenn, who learned under Dan Campbell,
10:48as Breece Hall ends up twisting down at the 30 in the arms of Shamar James.
10:53That's the hope, right?
10:54Aaron Glenn saw the 0-8 start with the Lions.
10:56A couple years later, they end up going to the postseason.
10:59The Jets would love to have something similar to that
11:02or similar to what Aaron Glenn saw as a player.
11:05First couple years were really rough.
11:07And then they end up making a couple postseasons as a marker comes flying in.
11:1119.
11:11It's not infraction.
11:13Offense, number 71.
11:15IBR penalty.
11:17Second down.
11:17But it's her first snap infraction.
11:19Yeah, we're...
11:20So, there's novelty in the call.
11:24We're getting them all.
11:30That's the face of a man who just can't figure out.
11:33He's been around the league his entire life.
11:35He just can't figure out why his message just continues to fall flat
11:39in regards to self-inflicted negatives.
11:41Here's Taylor.
11:44He's got a first down.
11:45What do you think the answer is?
11:47Like, other than creating turnovers, which can be a great equalizer,
11:51what is it?
11:52Watch, watch, watch, watch.
11:53Like most teams that struggle in the league,
11:55when you're on the path to being 0-5,
11:58it's usually a mix of multiple things.
11:59It's a mix of personnel.
12:00It's a mix of scheme.
12:01It's a mix of locker room, you know, intangibles.
12:05There's Taylor again.
12:06He's got another first down.
12:07The tight end's seen his targets rise the last couple weeks.
12:10You know, so it's...
12:11If it was just one simple thing,
12:13all right, replace this one player.
12:15All right, hey, let's run these plays.
12:17It's not as simple as that, right?
12:19And losing creates losing.
12:21And unfortunately, around the Jets organization,
12:24regardless of who they've brought into power as the head coach
12:27or regardless of how we're at 20...
12:28Sorry to have interrupted.
12:29Yeah, sorry.
12:30It's not the first time.
12:32Offense number 70.
12:33Five-yard penalty.
12:35First down.
12:36You know, you start thinking, you say,
12:37all right, regardless of who they've brought in at quarterback,
12:39regardless of who they've brought in at head coach,
12:41the results haven't changed.
12:43And, you know, you think back to, you know,
12:45give or take about a year ago,
12:47and they moved on from Robert Sala.
12:49They were a top-five defense in the league.
12:52Obviously, things offensively hadn't worked out.
12:54Aaron Rodgers got injured his first year.
12:56The second year, the offense was struggling.
12:57They get rid of Robert Sala.
12:59A defensive-minded culture guy.
13:01Bring him in with Aaron Glenn.
13:02Very similar resume, and they've just gotten worse.
13:07Pressure from Houston there and an incompletion.
13:09There is a flag down.
13:11Couple of them, actually.
13:13Two for the price of one.
13:14A bogo.
13:19First of the foul.
13:21Roughing the passer.
13:22Defense number 53.
13:24Yep.
13:2415-yard penalty with an automatic first down.
13:26Houston came flying in.
13:28Yes, this is not the first time that we've seen Houston use these kind of picks.
13:34Let's see.
13:35Does he land on fields?
13:36No.
13:39I'd love to get Mike back in.
13:42The rule is you can't land with all of your weight.
13:45You can see he brings both of his hands off.
13:47You kind of surf him.
13:48I don't know.
13:50I think Houston's probably executing it to the best of his ability, considering he's rushing the quarterback full speed.
13:57We'll get Mike in after the play here.
14:09Fields will throw again.
14:11He's got Rucker.
14:12Mike, what do you think of that foul call that time?
14:14Yeah, it's a really tough one there because you're talking about, of course, you know, punishing hit, landing on top of with most of all of your body weight.
14:22But it's not late, and he really does what the league asks him to do, which is to get the hands off, brace the fall.
14:30It's a tough one because he's trying to protect the quarterback, but I think that's one where I don't think that was a foul.
14:36Mike, thank you.
14:39Fields the run here.
14:41And a first down off the gain of 11.
14:46The Jets are down three scores here.
14:48It's three touchdowns, three two-point conversions.
14:51It is very far-fetched, but they are going to play to the horn.
14:57Pressure from Azaraku that time and nearly intercepted by Reddy Stewart.
15:01Wilson does hang on and gets a pat on the head from Diggs for his troubles.
15:05Yeah, Diggs said, if you don't stick your right hand out and palm that thing, I got another pick six on my resume because that ball was going directly into Diggs' chest.
15:16You see him, he's got his hands ready.
15:17He looks like he's going to catch a punt.
15:20That's an unbelievable catch there by Garrett Wilson.
15:23Not only to catch it, but he saves the pick.
15:26When you think of what Diggs and Bland have done in their career in terms of turnover creation, 11 of them for Diggs four years ago.
15:34Fields, pressure in his face again, and that forces him to throw it high.
15:39That is Fowler again living in the offensive backfield.
15:42Carissa, what do you have?
15:43Well, you guys know what's coming up next, Jason.
15:45It's America's Game of the Week.
15:47Jaden Daniels first came back since week two after suffering that knee injury, looking to improve to three and two.
15:51But he's got to go through this guy, Justin Herbert and the Chargers, who are also looking to bounce back after their loss last week.
15:57America's Game of the Week coming up next.
15:58Jason?
16:01Thank you very much, Carissa.
16:02Appreciate it.
16:03Jim Harbaugh, former mentor of Tanner Engstrand, the offensive coordinator for the Jets, who has been dealing with quite a bit of pressure on his quarterback today.
16:15It's a third and eight for Justin Fields.
16:17Fowler gets there again, and that is going to be well short of the marker.
16:21Alan Lazard with the catch.
16:23It's fourth down for the Jets, and they're going to go for this one.
16:26Yeah, you have to, and, you know, you think back to when this Dallas defense was amongst the best in the league, and it wasn't very many years ago, you know, under Dan Quinn, that the pass rush, and it wasn't just Micah Parsons.
16:38It was Demarcus Lawrence, or Dick Azua, they had a bunch of guys.
16:41It was the line games, the stunts, the picks.
16:44This is the best version of the line games and the stunts, rushing the passer we've seen out of this Dallas front all season.
16:51Five sacks so far today, looking for yet another fourth down stop.
16:55Fields over the middle.
16:56Got it inside the five to Hall, who hangs on this time as he gets cracked by Murray.
17:02First and goal for the Jets.
17:05Yeah, really nice option route by Brees Hall.
17:09That's a really good job there on Kenneth Murray.
17:11Just kind of sets him up.
17:12He's got a two-way go.
17:14Crosses face.
17:17For a minute there, I was hoping he didn't reach that ball across the goal line.
17:21The fumble that he had late in the first half was a turning point in this game.
17:28Huge, huge turning point.
17:33Taylor in motion.
17:35Fake it to Hall.
17:36Fields.
17:37End zone.
17:38Touchdown.
17:39Andrew back for the first Jets touchdown this afternoon.
17:45There is a marker in at the near side.
17:48And it looks like it'll stand.
17:54That looks like it's against the Cowboys.
17:56There is no foul on the play.
17:57The result of the play is a touchdown.
18:03That's a really good throw.
18:07With Ezraku right in his face.
18:09He puts this ball right on the front shoulder pad of Beck.
18:13And again, that looks like an easy throw.
18:15It's a two-yard completion, but to throw that ball in the flat under pressure accurately
18:20for your fullback to catch it, it's actually a sneaky, tough throw.
18:25And obviously, they're going to go for two here and try to compile as many points as they
18:30can here with eight minutes to go in the fourth.
18:33They need it to try to make it a two-possession game.
18:35They're going to take him off the fifth career touchdown for Beck in year number six for him.
18:44Lazard in motion.
18:45Fields to the end zone.
18:47And a nice catch by Taylor.
18:49Flashing his hands in front to complete the two-point conversion.
18:53So, about eight minutes left.
18:55It's a two-score game.
18:56The Jets showing some life.
18:58Has been one of the best in the NFL at forcing three-and-outs this year.
19:09Coming into the game, they were tied for second in the NFL with the most three-and-outs force.
19:16We'll see if they onside kick it here.
19:19At 7.56, what do you think, Greg?
19:22You've got three timeouts.
19:23Yeah, remember, it is a two-score game technically, but if you factor that at two-point conversions,
19:28give or take a 50-50, you've got to play for at least three possessions if you're the Jets.
19:34So, I get why they'd want to go onside kick.
19:37Because you're really just playing a possession game here.
19:42With a little under eight minutes to go, two possessions is realistic,
19:47but you're likely going to need a third, and that's where the math starts coming in.
19:52It was right to Tolbert.
19:53Yeah, the problem with onside kick nowadays is, like, you almost have to do it just to save face,
20:00to say, like, okay, we're still trying, but, like, the likelihood of recovering it with the new rules
20:05and you can't run up to the line, the percentage chances of getting it are pretty slim.
20:12Dak, back to throw.
20:14Climb in the pocket, drop it off, Ferguson, and he's got a first down to the 33.
20:20Andre Sisco and Maui Noah with the hit.
20:27Dak Prescott, you see the three touchdowns once again, 223 yards.
20:31That's his 41st three-passing touchdown game, the most in Cowboys history.
20:37And he talked this week about the guys that he wants to emulate in Cowboys history.
20:43Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman.
20:45He wants a championship very badly.
20:49And this offense has certainly done its part so far this year.
20:54It's a handoff for Williams, dancing outside.
20:58And he's met by Stevens, second down coming up.
21:01Yeah, it's because, you know, Dak Prescott, you play quarterback for the Cowboys,
21:04you're going to get paired, you know, get compared to some of the all-time greats, right?
21:07Staubach, Aikman.
21:09You know, recently I know Romo obviously had a ton of success,
21:11doesn't have the Super Bowl rings of the other two.
21:14And now that Dak's been the quarterback there as long, you're starting to creep up.
21:18You're the record, you know, you're the team leader and record holder in yards.
21:21And he said, listen, I don't care about any.
21:23The only record I care about is that Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman,
21:27they've got five Super Bowl rings and I've got zero.
21:30And the rest of my career, I'm going to base it off of that,
21:33not how many yards and touchdowns I throw for him.
21:35Yeah!
21:39Williams again.
21:41And he's tough to take down.
21:43Javante Williams came into the game seventh in the NFL in yards after contact
21:47and fully healthy.
21:49He is a weapon for Dak Prescott.
21:51He has.
21:51And I think we've got to give a little credit to Clayton Adams.
21:54So maybe a guy that doesn't get a lot of conversation around here,
21:56he came over from the Arizona Cardinals.
21:58Brian Schottenheimer said he identified him, you know, years ago,
22:02as he's always been trying to keep a short list of candidates
22:05in the event he got a chance to build his own staff as a head coach.
22:08And Adams is heavily involved in the run game.
22:10And his impact is written all over this Dallas offense,
22:14who the last couple years had really struggled to run the ball.
22:17Yeah!
22:18Here we go, Jets!
22:21Back to Williams.
22:23Yeah.
22:24Every coach.
22:24Coming to Jets.
22:25Okay, I was going to say,
22:26I was going to say,
22:27the Jets might want to start thinking about taking some timeouts here.
22:29But the other part of it is,
22:31when you onside kick and your opponent is a team that has Brandon Aubrey kicking,
22:37and that's why the onside kick is a little curious to me.
22:41Because you're down two scores,
22:43but you're no longer two scores down if you give up a field goal.
22:47Right.
22:47And again,
22:48but again,
22:49without getting into all the math on two-point conversions,
22:51you know,
22:52you start factoring,
22:52you're probably only a 25% chance of scoring
22:55and getting both to 50% of 50% and all that.
22:59So look at us,
23:00two math majors up here,
23:01breaking it down.
23:02But,
23:02you know,
23:03at the end of the day,
23:04though,
23:04if you can't stop them,
23:05it doesn't matter.
23:06Because, right,
23:07you kick the ball off and give them the ball up to 30,
23:09and they bleed a bunch of clock and get a bunch of first downs,
23:12you're not going to have enough possessions anyway.
23:14But you do keep belief for longer.
23:18Don't you?
23:18You keep the illusion of...
23:21Right.
23:21There's a lot of coaches in this league who coach for the illusion of being competitive
23:25as opposed to what gives us the best chance to win.
23:33Dak,
23:34out of the roll.
23:35He's got Spanford in front of him,
23:37and he'll just sit down.
23:39To call it a slide might be expansive of the definition of slide.
23:44Got to imagine the Jets take another timeout.
23:46And they will.
23:47Yeah,
23:47so,
23:48again,
23:48it's a 16-point game.
23:51They're on the verge of another field goal attempt at bare minimum
23:53with the best kicker in the league.
23:55Second charge timeout of behalf of New York.
23:58But again,
23:58just...
23:59It'll be 30 seconds.
23:59For those of everyone still watching,
24:01you always want to take your timeouts on defense,
24:03and you always want to take your timeouts on either the plus side of the two-minute warning
24:06or all on the minus side of the two-minute warning.
24:09That's like a general rule of thumb.
24:11It's easy to stop the clock on offense.
24:13So that's why Aaron Glenn here is trying to extend the game here in the fourth quarter
24:18and electing to use his timeouts when Dallas has the ball.
24:22Two pieces of that.
24:23Number one,
24:23three timeouts is essentially a possession, right?
24:25A three and out,
24:26you get a possession with the three timeouts.
24:28It does double back to the decision to kick the field goal earlier.
24:31I know it was fourth and 17.
24:34There's a lot at play there,
24:35but now you're down two scores,
24:37and that field goal for the Cowboys could put it away,
24:40and Dallas will call a timeout of its own.
24:43First charge timeout of I have Dallas.
24:49It will be 30 seconds.
24:52Jake Ferguson so far in this game,
24:54seven catches,
24:55a couple of touchdowns.
24:57Pam Oliver,
24:57what did you see?
24:58Well,
24:58Jason,
24:58he is doing well,
24:59but he just came out of the medical tent.
25:02The medical staff had a conversation with him,
25:04and the whole time he was trying to sneak on the field.
25:08They were trying to encourage him not to go,
25:11but I guess all is well.
25:13Because he's back out there,
25:14but they didn't want him to be.
25:16He was shaking that arm out,
25:18Pam.
25:18I think he got a little stinger.
25:19He came to the sideline.
25:21He was doing the,
25:22you know,
25:22he got a little tingle in the hand.
25:23You kind of just start shaking it.
25:26Glad he's all right.
25:26He's been a big part of this offense.
25:28He's had a great year so far.
25:32Somewhere the entire Wisconsin tight end room is cheering.
25:37Jake Ferguson right now.
25:38Third down and nine for Dak and the Cowboys.
25:42Clean pocket.
25:43He'll throw near side.
25:45It is Ryan Flannoy of Homewood Flossmoor High School in the Chicago suburbs for a first down.
25:54Flannoy,
25:54he's had himself a game.
25:56A lot of favorable matchups with the attention of Sauce Gardner,
25:59zone or man following George Pickens.
26:02And it had really been Tolbert and Pickens that had gotten the,
26:05you know,
26:05kind of the uptick in targets in the absence of CeeDee Lamb.
26:09But today it's been Flannoy continues to separate,
26:12continues to be the guy in one-on-one matchups that Dak Prescott continues to go.
26:17How about his back?
26:18Central Missouri,
26:19Iowa Western,
26:20Southeast Missouri State.
26:22Like every point on the compass from the South Chicago suburbs to college to the NFL
26:28as Javante Williams goes thundering through.
26:31Carissa,
26:32what do you have?
26:32A game break.
26:33Well,
26:33Jason,
26:33letting you guys know,
26:34Broncos down seven,
26:35looking to give the Eagles their first loss.
26:37Bo Nix hits.
26:38Evan Ingram,
26:38who breaks the tackle,
26:39gets in for the score.
26:40They go for two,
26:41they get it.
26:42Broncos lead 18-17 with five minutes remaining.
26:45Jason?
26:46Oh,
26:46that's 3D chess right there.
26:48Go for two,
26:49put the pressure on the undefeated Eagles.
26:51Yeah,
26:52it's interesting.
26:52I didn't see it on the monitor.
26:54How much time was it?
26:555-0-1.
26:56Yeah,
26:57so typically you go for two in that situation as opposed to tying the game when it's like
27:02under a minute.
27:03I think,
27:04all right,
27:04it's a time to just win this in regulation.
27:07I think it's interesting to go for two with five minutes still left in the game.
27:11It doesn't really alter Philadelphia's approach.
27:15But that's more than the illusion of belief.
27:17That's like put the hammer down right now and prove that we can do this.
27:21Listen,
27:21you've stood next to me for a couple games.
27:23I've been very clear where I stand on today's modern NFL.
27:26If you coach scared and you're not willing to use fourth down to your advantage,
27:29you're not willing to use two points to your advantage,
27:31you better have the best roster in football because your path to victories are going to be small.
27:38Deck,
27:39drop it off,
27:40easy walk-in,
27:41touchdown,
27:42Javante Williams.
27:46Jason,
27:46I feel like I stand up here and say this every single week.
27:50tailback fast to the flat,
27:52I think is batting 950 in the NFL.
27:56For whatever reason,
27:57nobody can figure out down,
27:59down and just run the tailback.
28:01It's not even a good play fake,
28:02but it doesn't matter who runs it or who defends it.
28:06The tailback in the red zone is virtually always open on that play.
28:10That's Javante Williams,
28:15the valedictorian of his high school class with the touchdown.
28:19It's pretty impressive.
28:20How close were you to valedictorian?
28:21Not what is like middle-of-the-road Torian.
28:27Average Torian?
28:28That was me.
28:28I was an average Torian.
28:30Dak Prescott's day in a nutshell.
28:33What do you got?
28:37Very efficient.
28:39For Dak,
28:39237,
28:41four touchdowns.
28:42Sorry,
28:42I was talking to myself.
28:43I only talk to people in the top half of valedictorianism.
28:46I don't blame you.
28:47What do you have on Dak today?
28:48I think he's been excellent.
28:50Whether it's been drop back pass,
28:51play action pass,
28:52he's been highly efficient on the underneath checkdowns.
28:55He hasn't put the ball in harm's way.
28:57The handful of times he has elected to challenge them deep.
29:00Of course,
29:00the touchdown to George Pickens.
29:02He puts the ball in the money.
29:03So,
29:04I'm not sure there's a quarterback in the league this season
29:07that's playing better ball than Dak Prescott.
29:10And with the defense we've seen today,
29:12if they can continue this level.
29:15Now,
29:16I don't know if they're going to hold everybody to 14,
29:17but they can continue to play at least middle-of-the-road football
29:20as this offense gets healthy
29:22and Dak continues to play at this level.
29:24Don't sleep on this Dallas Cowboys team, man.
29:28This is a long year,
29:29and I think here in a couple weeks,
29:31they're going to be in the mix.
29:32How about two weeks from now against Washington?
29:36Looks,
29:36I mean,
29:36what a great game.
29:37I hope we're there.
29:38Are we there?
29:39I'm not.
29:40You might be.
29:41Are you in Lubbock?
29:43Probably.
29:45Avery Williams
29:45on the return.
29:47Boy,
29:47I enjoy working with you.
29:49The pressure rate,
29:50though.
29:51The pressure rate is so important.
29:52Whether they give up 14 points or not,
29:54they've been all over Justin Fields.
29:55Yeah,
29:55I feel like we're back in like 2022,
29:57talking about this Cowboys pass rush.
30:00It's been pick stunts.
30:01It's been two-man games,
30:02three-man games.
30:02Dante Fowler has been in the backfield the entire game.
30:06This has been a really impressive performance from start to finish.
30:11We've talked about it ad nauseam.
30:12If you're going to have a great offense and score 30-plus,
30:15you better be able to rush the opposing quarterback and play pass defense,
30:19because that's what you're going to see as teams play from behind.
30:23Brees Hall hit by Clowney,
30:25but they've done it by rushing four at points today, Greg.
30:27It's not like exotic blitz theater all day.
30:30No,
30:30they can rush four and get home with the pick stunts and the games inside.
30:33They can bring five.
30:34They can bring off-ball players.
30:36It's the multitude of the system.
30:38And again,
30:38you've got to give Matt Eberflus,
30:40the new defensive coordinator in his first year,
30:42you've got to give a lot of credit.
30:43It takes a while to implement a system the way you see the game being played.
30:48And I think everyone on this defensive side of the ball walks off the field today
30:53for Dallas,
30:53taking a big,
30:54deep breath.
30:55We should note the Cowboys fans below our booth on the near side.
30:59We're just chanting MVP for Dak Prescott.
31:03You've got to imagine what is week,
31:05you're the math guy,
31:06what is week five?
31:07It's not exactly calculus.
31:09Yeah,
31:09it's week five.
31:10No,
31:10but of 19.
31:12Oh,
31:12I see.
31:13Right,
31:13whatever it is.
31:13Yeah,
31:13we're about a quarter of the way through the season.
31:16Ish.
31:17Ish.
31:18Yeah,
31:19you've got to imagine he's in the running,
31:20right,
31:20him?
31:21I thought you were saying week five was hard for you.
31:25I know how to count to five.
31:25I'm saying once a week,
31:26you know,
31:27in the old days,
31:27why did you remit all the road at Torian?
31:29In the old days,
31:30you play 16 games,
31:32every four was a quarter.
31:33Even guys like me could figure that out.
31:36So,
31:36five out of 17 gets a little weird.
31:40It does.
31:40It gets hazy.
31:43Timeout called.
31:443-16 to go.
31:46So off the spike,
31:52it'll be second down.
31:54Lucky five zero.
31:56Five zero.
31:57Five zero.
31:58Five.
31:59Five.
32:00Five eighty one.
32:00Five.
32:03Here comes Houston around the corner.
32:05It's a throw to the near side.
32:07And Wilson with the catch.
32:09His fifth grab for the game.
32:12Oh one for no takeaways and the Jets are going to find themselves at Owen five and barring something catastrophic for the Cowboys.
32:24No takeaways.
32:25It would be the first team in NFL history to go home and five with no takeaways.
32:31Justin Fields got hit by James and throws it too hot for Lazard.
32:46Second down coming up.
32:50The Jets three seasons prior starting at Owen five.
32:55Walt Michaels in 1980.
32:57Richie Cotite 96.
32:59And then that 2020 season as well.
33:02They knew it was going to be some form of a rebuild.
33:05But that is that's tough to look down the barrel of.
33:09Yeah,
33:10that's why you have to start just looking organizationally and saying this is not unique to Aaron Glenn.
33:14This has really been a revolving door with the same results with different guys in command.
33:21Check it down.
33:22Middle of the field once again to the tight end.
33:24Ruckert.
33:26And he is a little bit short of the line to gain.
33:32You start looking at hiring practices.
33:34You start looking at culture within the organization.
33:37Somewhere along the line someone needs to break it.
33:41Another stoppage here for injury.
33:44With Donovan Wilson.
33:45Yeah, it's Wilson.
33:46Favoring his right shoulder.
33:47But, you know, again, if anybody has the experience to understand what it's like to be in this Jets locker room,
33:54it is Aaron Glenn.
33:55Because this is a very similar conversation that was going on when he and Dan Campbell arrived in Detroit.
34:01Right?
34:01It was the job no one wanted.
34:02It's a perennial loser.
34:03You can't win in Detroit.
34:04And it started off bad.
34:07It took them a while to turn that ship around.
34:10And obviously they got that thing cranking now in Detroit.
34:14Big reason why he's got the opportunity now to be a head coach at this stage in his career.
34:18And obviously the hope here in New York is that he can have the same result that he was a part of with Campbell in Detroit.
34:25And as a player.
34:25His first three years as a player.
34:27They were 6-10, 3-13, 1-15.
34:30And that's a wild catch by Taylor.
34:32But, you know, two years after that they go to the AFC Championship game.
34:36So he's seen turnarounds as a player and as a coach.
34:41And it's a matter of what will turn the tide.
34:44But it's not, looks like, happening today.
34:49Fields just before the two-minute warning.
34:51As Araku breathing down his neck.
34:53And he'll go over the middle once again for the tight end.
34:57That's Mason Taylor one more time.
34:59And we will step aside.
35:01Jets are driving.
35:02Cowboys are going to take win number two.
35:09New Jersey.
35:10Jetman there.
35:11It's also Greg Olson's nickname after his adventure at Heathrow last week.
35:16Jetman.
35:18Very well done.
35:20That was very, very impressive.
35:23You have any more left?
35:24We only got a minute and 57 seconds left.
35:27Let's get them all out.
35:27Did you have a GPS with you?
35:29It was bad.
35:31It was bad.
35:32Fields to throw.
35:34Gets hit.
35:35Dodges one.
35:36Dodges a second one.
35:37Stewart's after him this time.
35:38And it's incomplete.
35:39And it's incomplete.
35:40Whistling it wide of Reynolds.
35:41Any advice for the Jets for when they travel overseas?
35:50I'm going to go out on a limb and say they're not connecting.
35:52So they don't have to worry about the shuttle system.
35:54But yeah, they got their hands full.
35:56You know, they're going to go overseas now and still in search of that first win.
36:00Is it going to come against Denver?
36:02And then they got the Panthers.
36:05Who've come back.
36:06Who've come back.
36:07They were down 17-0 to the Dolphins.
36:10And they've come back now 27-24 with under a minute.
36:18Fields.
36:18Backside heat from Ezraku.
36:20Got it away for Wilson.
36:21One dodge.
36:22And leaning in.
36:25Touchdown.
36:25Garrett Wilson throws everything at that touchdown for New York.
36:38Yeah, good effort here.
36:40Tried to go airborne.
36:42It's a nice job just reaching the ball across.
36:44Usually the teach receivers do not extend the ball.
36:47But in these circumstances, at this point in the game, doesn't really matter.
36:52Good effort there by Garrett Wilson.
36:53And, you know, the one thing I will say, these last couple possessions for the Jets,
36:57and I know Dallas has changed.
36:59You know, they're playing a little bit more conservative pass defense,
37:01keeping the ball in front.
37:02But since they've gone to some up-tempo urgency,
37:04the second-half offense here has been a lot more productive.
37:09A little touchdown, some field goal drive.
37:11So can they come to life and build a little bit off this on that trip overseas?
37:19Timeout, Dallas.
37:20Let me ask you, do you think this league could use a little more tempo offensively?
37:26I do, because I think what we're seeing so much with defenses are they want to,
37:30especially in the first half, they want to rotate defensive linemen quite a bit.
37:33And they really want to do a good job mixing personnels, right?
37:36So they want multiple big guys.
37:38Then they want to go heavy defensive backs.
37:39And then, you know, is it two linebackers or three?
37:42So by going up-tempo, even if you don't go in, like, warp speed,
37:46it really puts the defense in a position where they can't always sub,
37:50they can't get fresh guys, they can't match personnel.
37:52So if offensively you can keep the same 11 guys on the field
37:56and still give enough variety that you're not predictable,
37:59at times it can be very useful.
38:02The things that defenses, that we've learned about NFL defenses,
38:06kind of from the Chip Kelly era where, you know, he kind of went fast all the time.
38:10Even Philly is, it's not so much always going fast
38:14as much as the change in tempo.
38:20They're going to go for two here.
38:24Fields.
38:26He's got two for Josh Reynolds.
38:30And the lead is 15.
38:40Good job, good job, good job, good job, good job.
38:53Are we on camera, yes or no?
38:58Not yet, Greg.
38:59Oh.
39:0237-22, Cowboys with the lead.
39:04Ha, ha, ha.
39:10Let's see if they have a better onside kick approach here.
39:28Last time they just kind of kicked a three-hopper
39:31and recovered pretty easily.
39:34So let's see if they change up their strategy here.
39:37But again, remember in the old days,
39:38you can line up back here and get a running start.
39:41Obviously, that's over.
39:45And this onside kick goes directly to the Cowboys once again.
39:49Tolbert had the first one.
39:51He's got the second one as well.
39:57Dallas has rolled up 417 total yards offensively.
40:02Javante Williams went over 100 early.
40:05And Ryan Flanoy, six catches, a buck 14.
40:10The absence of Kevante Turpin obviously affects them
40:13in the special teams department.
40:14But Flanoy, the second-year man out of southeast Missouri State
40:18and Cape Girardeau has had a very nice day for himself.
40:24Jets are out of time.
40:25Alex, the Cowboys will take a couple of knees and leave
40:28with a 500 record through five games, which is hard to do.
40:34They've seen just about every version of a football game that you can.
40:41Opening week loss at Philadelphia, overtime win, overtime tie.
40:47The loss to the Bears that they felt like they should have kept closer.
40:50And then this today, which for all intents and purposes, Greg,
40:55was a blowout after the Brees Hall fumble late first half.
41:00Yeah, just a complete dominating performance really in all areas.
41:04And I think if you're Brian Schottenheimer
41:06and you're trying to implement a new kind of regime
41:08and a new message and a new leader,
41:11you knew the offense was good.
41:13For them to continue to play at that level
41:15with four offensive line starters out,
41:17I can't stress how hard that is in the NFL,
41:20especially on the road against a defense that was pretty good.
41:25And obviously the big story today, though,
41:28a little throwback here on the line again now.
41:30The story today for Dallas was the defense
41:32and being the worst in the league after four weeks.
41:36Today was pretty impressive.
41:37The 22 points the Jets scored is not really indicative
41:40of how the game went.
41:41The Jets, regardless of how they've gone,
41:46have not won a game so far.
41:48Any of the first five.
41:49They're the first team to start 0-5 with zero takeaways
41:52in the history of the NFL.
41:55The final score, 37-22 for Dallas.
42:04Greg, always a pleasure.
42:05Dude, it was awesome having you, man.
42:07See you sooner.
42:08Love our time together.
42:09We say farewell from New Jersey.
42:12Kurt Menefee in Los Angeles.
42:14A State Farm game break.
42:18You know, all eyeballs were on them
42:20because they were playing in New York.
