Jonny Drury and Lewis Cox discuss Albion's defeat to Millwall on the latest episode of the Baggies Broadcast.
Transcript
00:00Win at Norwich last midweek, then we've got the Millwall performance.
00:07You know, what went wrong? Who is it on?
00:10Is it, you know, one of them draw a line under it?
00:12It was terrible. We move on.
00:14Or does it leave you with any kind of worry and doubts about this Albion side?
00:19Honestly, I've tried to forget about it.
00:21So the fact we now have to analyse it for the next however many minutes is a bit of a concern.
00:25But it was a real off day, not at the races day.
00:31I think, you know, from all involved, I think that we're all at 1.45pm when the team news was announced.
00:38I think everybody had an opinion and that's fair enough.
00:41I think we all expected changes after Norwich on the Wednesday night, even though that delivered a win.
00:46And you can have your feelings about that as well.
00:48People will say, don't change a winning team or, you know, along those lines.
00:53Or they should be able to, you know, players should be able to handle games Wednesday, Saturday or whatnot.
00:58But we expected changes. Changes were made, four of them.
01:02But Albion just did not start, did they?
01:04There was one team in it on Saturday.
01:07I would say from minute one to 95, I would say across the park, every department, Millwall first to every ball.
01:13It just felt to me and looked to me.
01:18And I'm sure everyone who watched it, who went in the away end, that Albion were just not at it physically or, you know, for the battle.
01:25And I think when, it's a bit of a cliche, but when you go down to Millwall, you know, the way the atmosphere can be and stuff.
01:31Albion haven't got a great record there of late, of course.
01:33But if you can start well, you know, you can turn the atmosphere the other way.
01:37It doesn't have to be against you.
01:38But if you give them a leg up, it becomes even harder.
01:42And Albion just didn't even get off the coach.
01:44I didn't feel they really didn't compete, you know, before we even get to the technical football side of it.
01:51And when they did have the ball, they did not use it well at all.
01:53And maybe we'll get on to the changes and stuff.
01:56But in the, you know, the bare minimum sort of duels, battles, call it what you want, clearances, tackles, they weren't at it.
02:07And it was thoroughly disappointing.
02:11Ryan Mason, to his credit afterwards, you know, called it what it was.
02:15There was no sugarcoating it, I think.
02:19You know, it was clearly the worst performance and result of his tenure.
02:22And, you know, as I wrote afterwards, it will be something he won't want to repeat because, you know, head coaches, managers, they don't, they can't afford too many of those, you know, those really, really bad ones.
02:35It was the poorest I've been to play since the Easter weekend.
02:37You know, we all know what happened over those two games.
02:40With regards, obviously, different point of the season, different context under Tony Mowry, but obviously totally unravelled that day, those days.
02:48And, yeah, I really felt for the 2,000-odd in the away end because, you know, many of those would have gone to Norfolk a couple nights earlier.
02:57Obviously, then to go down to, you know, south of the river, all of that.
03:00It's a pain in the backside away day to get to, isn't it, any of those around there.
03:06And I hope the travelling fans were able to enjoy the travel element and having a refreshment or two down there because the 90 minutes inside the den were not good.
03:17Yeah, and nobody in the 11 or the matchday squad, I think, did themselves any justice or any favours, maybe bar one, maybe, but a very poor afternoon.
