Ebola outbreak in southern Congo shows signs of containment, says WHO

An Ebola outbreak that has plagued southern Congo in recent weeks is starting to be contained, the World Health Organization said Wednesday, with no new cases reported since the U.N. health agency's last update on Oct. 1.

00:05The World Health Organization says an Ebola outbreak in Kasai province is showing signs of being contained.
00:12As of October 5th, it's been 10 days with no new cases,
00:16a milestone the WHO says could mean transmission is now under control.
00:21Since the outbreak was declared on September 4th, Congo has reported 64 cases, 53 confirmed and 43 deaths.
00:30It's the region's first Ebola outbreak in 18 years.
00:34Early challenges from funding gaps to poor access hampered the Ebola response,
00:39but better logistics, including airlifts and clinic decontamination, have slowed the spread.
00:45Still, the WHO warns nearly 2,000 contacts are being tracked, and just one missed case could trigger a resurgence.
