00:04Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins has welcomed news that the Government has now agreed to fund a business case
00:10to investigate a new major flood alleviation scheme in Holymooreside
00:14to protect residents in Brampton and across Chesterfield from the River Hipper.
00:18Emma Hardy, the Flooding Minister who visited Chesterfield to see the flooded area in January,
00:23has now announced that the Environment Agency will be providing £400,000 in funding
00:28to develop a detailed business case for the proposed River Hipper Flood Alleviation Scheme.
00:33Around 1,600 properties in the county were flooded following Storm Babette in October 2023,
00:39causing millions of pounds of damage to homes and businesses.
00:43In Chesterfield, more than 500 homes had internal flooding,
00:46with many residents forced out of their properties and some still unable to return.
00:51Mr Perkins secured a debate in Parliament in the summer regarding the flood defences needed in Chesterfield
00:56and to raise concerns about the lack of action carried out since Storm Babette.
