Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Trey Turner are a combined 2-for-21 in this series so far.
00:07
Over the last two postseasons, Trey Turner and Kyle Schwarber are a combined 6-for-45.
00:15
It's a 133 batting average with 19 strikeouts.
00:20
The Phillies have gotten consistent pitching performances.
00:24
The bullpen, there were some tipping pitches involved.
00:29
What can you do?
00:31
But the Phillies are the Phillies because Kyle Schwarber hit 56 home runs.
00:36
The Phillies are the Phillies because Trey Turner, if he didn't get hurt at the end of the season,
00:40
might have led Major League Baseball in hits and won the NL batting title.
00:46
And Bryce Harper is Bryce Harper.
00:48
Those three, that's an enormous issue.
00:52
I think that is the biggest issue and a reason why the Phillies, right?
00:56
They've only lost by a run and two runs in the other game.
01:00
Imagine if those three were just average.
01:02
I'm not asking for much.
01:03
Just be okay.
01:04
It might be 2-0 Phillies.
01:07
And I alluded to this in the conversation with Fink last episode.
01:10
But it just feels like if Schwarber and Harper or even Turner right now aren't getting it done,
01:17
then you look at Boehm.
01:18
Real Muto has had some good at-bats.
01:20
But Castellanos, and I'm like, oh, man, who else is going to come up here?
01:25
Like, it feels like those are the guys that need to be producing for you.
01:29
And shockingly, even though, like, they haven't been.
01:32
It's been other guys that have actually been picking it up and putting a couple runs across the board for them.
01:36
But it just feels like when you've got Alec Boehm in the cleanup spot and Kyle Schwarber, Trey Turner, and Bryce Harper aren't doing it for you,
01:44
I don't know how else you're going to score runs.
01:46
And so I agree.
01:47
I think it's unrealistic to say Boehm needs to look like a cleanup hitter.
01:51
I think the reality here is that Kyle Schwarber needs to look like one of the best power hitters in Major League Baseball.
01:56
And I know he's working his butt off to try to get there.
01:58
And Bryce Harper needs to be the playoff icon that we've seen the last few years.
02:01
And neither of those things are happening.
02:03
So I don't see how the Phillies get a game without those guys being a big part of the offense.
02:08
What's the next thing that stands out to you?
02:10
On the Dodgers side, the bullpen still is a concern.
02:15
Because I think they're the best team here.
02:17
They have the best starting rotation.
02:19
I think it's the best unit in the postseason.
02:22
And I think the second best unit in the postseason is that offense.
02:26
You're not going to win every game by four runs and then almost blow a lead.
02:32
And that's how you win postseason games.
02:33
It's not going to work.
02:34
You will get bit.
02:36
Right?
02:36
We've seen how good the Brewers look.
02:38
We've seen how good the Blue Jays look.
02:40
And maybe it's the Mariners that get passed.
02:43
These teams aren't just going to lay down.
02:45
Maybe they will.
02:46
The Phillies are incredible.
02:47
So maybe they will and it won't end up mattering.
02:49
But Blake Dryden came in again and struggled.
02:52
We thought he'd fix that arm angle.
02:53
Didn't look great in that one.
02:54
We haven't even seen Tanner Scott yet.
02:56
Now Rokey has stepped in and I guess he's their closer.
03:00
But, you know, it's been Tyler Glass now for innings.
03:04
Right?
03:04
Vessia can't just be the only reliever that you trust outside of Rokey Sasaki.
03:09
And maybe they're able to piece it together and this concern doesn't matter.
03:13
But I still feel like the concern matters.
03:17
Yeah.
03:18
I'm with you.
03:19
And it felt like it was a force.
03:20
Like, let's try to get something positive here for Trenton because we need him.
03:24
And it just was not even a good spot to put him out there.
03:28
Sasaki saves the day coming in.
03:29
But it almost seemed like it would be too little too late.
03:32
Fortunately for the Dodgers, you know, Sasaki was able to get that final out.
03:36
But Vessia, you know, saving Trine in there to go get the lefties.
03:39
You got two more.
03:42
Milwaukee, it's hard to find a concern.
03:45
My one would be, is Brandon Woodruff going to come back?
03:49
Because I look at the Brewers and I'm not really concerned about the offense.
03:52
I was going to come into this segment saying, what's going on with Jackson Chorio's hamstring?
03:59
He looks okay.
04:00
He's just setting records.
04:02
So who cares?
04:03
Right?
04:05
I have no concerns with the bullpen.
04:07
I thought, is Andrew Vaughn going to show up?
04:09
Yes, clearly.
04:11
So what's the concern?
04:12
It would be when you get to a seven game series, it can't always be a bullpen game.
04:18
And what you showed us is that Quinn Priester, I guess he's going game three, but you didn't want to go with him in game two.
04:25
Might have been more strategy and less about Quinn Priester.
04:28
But he doesn't have a ton of years under his belt, right?
04:30
Came up in 2023.
04:32
He's had a really good season.
04:33
But it's hard to win a series against a team like the Dodgers when it's Freddie Peralta, Quinn Priester, and then bullpen games.
04:41
It's just difficult.
04:42
You have to be at your best.
04:43
The Brewers can absolutely compete with the Dodgers if Brandon Woodruff comes back strong.
