So we're here with Ed Bunning, how you doing Ed?
00:02
Yeah very well thank you.
00:03
So these are your cattle?
00:04
They are yeah they certainly are yeah.
00:06
They're nice and colourful.
00:08
They are yeah.
00:09
So let's start with you, so how long have you been in the farming game then?
00:13
I have been, I'll be the fourth generation up at home.
00:17
Yeah just outside Bridge North of Moorville.
00:19
And what type of cattle have we got here?
00:22
These are Belted Galloway, they're actually a Scottish breed.
00:25
Yeah yeah.
00:26
But we thought they'd be quite good with a white band to put the red cross on.
00:31
So talk us through it, we just had a carp up there on then and I did some pictures previously
00:36
and a chap had stopped and said it put a smile on his face.
00:39
So when did the idea come about that you know, ah I could do a bit of an alternative England flagging.
00:45
Yeah we saw all the England flags about, you know put everywhere and basically
00:51
we've done it more so for the, to help the farmers a bit really.
00:56
To support British farming and inheritance tax and stuff.
01:00
Yeah because it's not an easy time for you guys is it?
01:03
No it isn't.
01:03
No it isn't but just try and put a smile on everyone's face really.
01:07
Yeah yeah, so I mean despite what's happening in terms of the government,
01:10
you lads are all, you're a tight-knit community you farmers aren't you?
01:13
Yeah.
01:13
Very proud to be British and be farming in this country yeah?
01:16
Yeah.
01:18
So what does it, what is it, I mean you mark the cows anyway don't you?
01:22
So I suppose let's get to the details of it, it doesn't harm the cows in any way does it?
01:27
No it's a livestock marker too, I don't know if you've seen like in the lambing sheds they
01:32
put numbers on the sheep so they know what lamb belongs to.
01:35
Yeah yeah.
01:35
It's just that spray so it's meant for livestock anyway.
01:38
So they're not fussed in any way?
01:40
No they're not, they're quiet as quiet.
01:41
Other than being Scottish don't tell him it's an idiot, he's coming round the corner,
01:46
he's heard me look this one here, he's coming round to say hello.
01:49
So what's the sort of reaction you've had off people then and other farmers first,
01:53
what have they said?
01:54
Well like we talk in the market, the local market at Bridge North,
01:56
it's just everyone's talking about it and yeah it's yeah just they think it's a good idea and
02:02
the man every time we come check these every day and give them a bit of corn,
02:06
there's always people stop taking papers and beeping the horn like you've just seen.
02:11
So like you say it just puts a bit of, here are look, so the idea is put a smile on people's faces
02:19
during this time and also make a point that you know you are proud to be British and you are here
02:25
despite best efforts of other people you're here and battling on in the industry.
02:30
Yeah.
02:30
So how are things generally for you in farming life?
02:34
It's, it seems to get harder, I'm not going to lie, they seem to make it harder work to try and make a living.
02:42
Erm, but I don't know, just keep...
02:45
Have you got kids yourself?
02:46
No, no not yet, no.
02:47
Yeah.
02:48
No.
02:48
Because I speak to some farmers and they've got kids but the kids have seen how hard mum and dad have been working
02:53
and it's kind of turned them off, doesn't it?
02:55
No, it's erm, but yeah, no just to keep, you know, just keep on podding along and I think if we all stick together
03:01
I think we'll get through, everyone will get through it sort of thing.
03:04
So what's the deal with the, are these milk cows, beef cows?
03:07
No, these are beef cows, these are yeah.
03:09
Yeah.
03:09
But these, these are some heifers that I will put to the bull eventually to breed from, so.
03:14
Yeah.
03:15
So where, where does, where does the beef from your farm end up then?
03:18
Is it kind of, it stays in Shropshire?
03:20
Does it end up all over?
03:21
Uh, mainly the, the local livestock market in Bridge North.
03:24
Yeah.
03:25
Yeah, er, and then we have a few, Rob Arbuckle in Bridge North, the, the butcher, he has, er,
03:32
he has a few offers as well, sort of thing.
03:34
Yeah.
03:35
Well, they look, they look fantastic and erm, yeah, they've definitely put a smile on er,
03:40
many of your face that have seen them, so.
03:41
Yeah.
03:42
Fair pay to you sir.
03:43
Thank you, yeah, that's it.
