Director Guillermo del Toro tells THR at the 'Frankenstein' premiere what it felt like to finally have the chance to make his dream project. Plus, he talks about releasing the film in theaters and streaming, as well as showing both perspectives of the Creature and Frankenstein in the movie.

00:00How did it feel to finally get to make your dream project?

00:03Well, I was saying it's postpartum depression and celebration at the same time.

00:08And it's because when the horizon shifts that brutally,

00:12like if you dream to making the team or if you dream about graduating, whatever,

00:18and then you do it and you go, there's like the elevator drop.

00:23So that's one thing.

00:24The other one is the joy of having achieved with a great team,

00:29a very operatic, beautiful, epic, intimate story about, very Catholic,

00:35about fathers and sons and fathers and sons transmitting the pain

00:39and the power of forgiveness and acceptance is not an easy task.

00:45There was some fan outcry when people thought it was just going to be on streaming.

00:48What did you make of the demand to see this movie on the big screen in theaters?

00:52You know, I think that I'm very proud that we are going to fulfill it to a large degree.

00:58You know, we are going to get three weeks of a very busy release theatrical, very extensive.

01:05And I am hoping that it stays in theaters even after it is a streaming.

01:10Not every theater, but we can keep it accessible so people can see it in their preferred presentation.

01:17Why was it important for you to show both the creature's perspective and Victor's perspective?

01:22Because that's what we're not doing in anything right now.

01:25We are showing one perspective or another.

01:28And complexity comes from the thought that there is the other and the other is you.

01:34You know, if you can identify that there is no you and me but us,

01:38it's an urgent tale to tell.
