'Nathuram Mindset': Attack On CJI Widely Condemned; Lawyers' Body To Protest Outside SC Today

00:00Let me make it clear I am not an eyewitness to the incident.

00:05What I know, I know from reading what the press has published.

00:09Whatever I have read, I have said it calls for a deeper investigation.

00:13I consider it to be an attack on the institution as a whole,

00:17not just on the Chief Justice of India.

00:20I do consider it to be a casteist remark against the Chief Justice,

00:24singling him out from within the institution.

00:28And it is a remark which requires a legal response from the Supreme Court of India.

00:37At the very least, one would expect a press release from the United Court

00:43indicating that this is an attack of an ideological nature on an institution

00:50which is a secular institution intended to protect democracy in all castes and all communities.

00:56So, it is rather serious and I am also disturbed by the fact that on a previous occasion

01:03when a very senior minister had said that a judgement of the Supreme Court has encouraged

01:11no response was forthcoming from the Supreme Court.

01:17So, I think this is a case where the Supreme Court should take so much action against the lawyer in question.
