A tense moment unfolded in the Supreme Court on Monday when a lawyer tried to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai during a hearing. 03:57that there was an attempt to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice of India
04:00by one of the lawyers who walked close to the dais
04:04and then tried to remove his shoe and throw it out of the CJS courtroom.

04:22And what we're also hearing is after the incident,
04:25the Chief Justice of India addressed the courtroom and asked them to not get distracted by all of this.

04:37So, quite a shocking incident which has happened today in CJS court
04:41for a lawyer to have behaved in this manner before the court room, inside the court room.
04:47In fact, what we're hearing from the police sources here is that he has now been detained by the police officials here.

05:23Rakesh Kishore. He was escorted out immediately after the incident took place by the security personnel

06:29Yes, we've tried to speak to lawyers who were present in Chief Justice of India's court

06:43And as you rightly pointed out, even as per those lawyers, the hearing before CJI's court was not disrupted.
06:50After this incident, CJI reacted in a very calm manner.
06:54In fact, also asked the lawyers present in the court to not get distracted by all this,
06:59saying that all this doesn't distract him and these things do not affect him.
07:04But it's definitely a shocking incident because we're talking about the highest court of the country
07:09and we're talking about a courtroom of the Chief Justice of India himself
07:14for such an unfortunate incident to have taken place.
07:18There's obviously, we are expecting some serious action to be taken.
07:23We've also spoken to lawyers who have condemned such an action,
07:26especially considering the fact that it's been done by a lawyer,
07:29not some layman, it has been done by a lawyer inside CJI's courtroom.
07:35So definitely some action is likely to be taken from what we're hearing from our sources.
07:40But we'll have to wait for some time to know exactly what action will be taken against him.

07:49normally the Chief Justice of India continued with hearings of the matters.

08:24We haven't seen any comment coming from, any official comment coming from the Supreme Court.
08:30Our information is limited to the lawyers who were present inside the courtroom
08:35and also from the police sources who we have tried to speak to here at the Supreme Court of India.
08:40What we're also hearing from the lawyers is that the incident could have been sparked.
08:45The comments that have come in from the lawyer who tried to attack the Chief Justice of India,
08:49the bench, could have been possibly sparked by CGI's comments in a previous case,
08:56which had also sparked a lot of controversy, if you remember,
08:59on social media in a case regarding to the idol of Lord Vishnu.
09:04So the speculation is that the incident today was possibly a fallout of that particular remark
09:10or the remarks made by CGI in that case.
09:14But yes, the Chief Justice of India very clearly remained unfazed today after the incident.
09:20That's exactly what we have heard from the lawyers.
09:23He remained unfazed.
09:24The bench continued to hear the arguments and also asked the lawyers to continue with their arguments,
09:30went on to hear the matters as per the list and did not get distracted or affected by the incident
09:37that had taken place, which in itself says a lot about the CGI and the bench itself,
09:42considering they decided to resume the hearing and we did not see the bench get up
09:48or ask the lawyers to leave the court.
09:51According to the lawyers present, the court remained unfazed and also asked the lawyers
09:56to not get distracted by the incident that had happened, pointing out that they are not distracted
10:02and CGI clearly saying that these things do not affect him.
10:07But we'll have to wait and watch and see if there's any official statement,
10:11which eventually comes in from the Supreme Court and especially what action
10:14the top court and its administration decides to take against this particular lawyer.

11:21it is probably the only thing that we can hear lawyers,
11:24both senior and junior lawyers, discussed as of now,
11:27because not only is it a surprising event,
11:30but an extremely shocking incident to have happened.
11:33We have, as court reporters, seen some of these incidents,
11:37or we've heard of such incidents happen in lower courts, trial courts,
11:41because the security system in lower courts as compared to higher courts is a bit weak.
11:47There's more access to common people as far as courtrooms of trial courts are concerned.
11:52But if you talk about Supreme Court,
11:53there's an extremely, there's an extremely good security system in place where there's a high security zone,
12:02which is made where once you enter, there's a pass required to enter for entering in the high security zone.
12:08And it's the high security zone in Supreme Court where all the courtrooms are there, all the courtrooms.
12:13So, for such an incident to have happened inside the courtroom of the highest court of the country is definitely shocking
12:23and also raises questions, big questions.
12:27But what's also important to point out here is that the attack was, has come in,
12:32the attempt to attack the bench has come in from a lawyer.
12:35Now, lawyers, of course, are allowed to enter the high security zone for their matters.
12:41Because what steps the Supreme Court administration will take to ensure that such a lapse doesn't happen in the future
12:48or such an incident doesn't happen in the future will also be very crucial to watch out for,
12:53to see what, if at all any further steps are taken.
12:56Because if lawyers continue to behave in this manner in the highest court of the country,
13:01that will definitely raise a lot of questions even amongst the general public as far as they are concerned
13:08and also concern for other courts, high courts or, you know, the subordinate courts.
13:13So, it's very, it's not just surprising, but an extremely shocking incident which has taken place today
13:19in the CGI's court.
13:21And it will be important to see what action the top court administration will take
13:25and if any steps or any further changes would be implemented by the top court
13:30as far as its security and functioning inside courtrooms is concerned.
