St Helens' season came to an end on Saturday as they lost 20-12 to Hull KR in the Super League play-off semi-finals. The talk in the aftermath is that Paul Wellens' contract won't be renewed but is that fair?

00:00well
00:06they're going to be disappointed aren't they
00:10with fifth and
00:12not reaching a major final because they have
00:15high standards
00:16I think considering all the injuries they've had
00:19and the disruption
00:19I don't think they've had a bad season
00:22at all
00:23they qualified for the playoffs they got to
00:26a
00:27semi-final and they created
00:30the moment of the season with the win
00:32at Leeds
00:34in the elimination play-off
00:37I think
00:37they've obviously got issues
00:40no one thinks that Paul
00:42Wellens is going to be coached next season
00:45there are
00:46question marks over his team
00:48selection particularly in the halves
00:50but
00:51most teams would
00:54settle for a season like that wouldn't they
00:56but I suppose when you
00:57when you're a club that is used to winning trophies
01:00it's a disappointment
01:01if you don't do that
01:03I think
01:05I think Paul Wellens has come in for some undeserved criticism
01:09really
01:11I think he's
01:12he's
01:12done better than people give him credit for
01:15really
01:16I think he's a better coach than people give him credit for
01:19but
01:19I don't think it would be enough to keep him
01:22in a job
01:23unfortunately
01:24I think
01:25if you're going to coach St Helens
01:27you have to win trophies
01:28and obviously he's not done that
01:30so
01:31I would expect them to have a different coach next season
01:35thanks for joining us
