00:00It has been 10 days since Sonam Vangchuk's arrest under the NSA on September 26.
00:04His wife Gitanjali had filed a habeas corpus petition before the Supreme Court and a two-judge
00:08bench heard it on October 6.
00:10Here's what happened.
00:11In the petition, Gitanjali said there was no information about the grounds of Sonam's
00:14detention or about the state of his health and sought his immediate release.
00:17The Supreme Court orally asked the union government to tell Gitanjali the grounds for her husband's
00:21arrest.
00:22The center, represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, argued the authorities had already
00:26done so, immediately after Sonam's arrest in fact, and there was no further obligation
00:30under the NSA to share the details with his wife.
00:32Senior advocate Kapil Sibbal, appearing for Gitanjali, said without knowing the grounds of
00:35arrest, Gitanjali would not be able to argue her case.
00:38Sibbal also urged that the court direct the detaining authorities to allow Gitanjali to
00:42meet her husband.
00:43But the bench asked her to move the authorities for permission to meet her husband.
00:46The Supreme Court bench listed the next hearing for October 14, saying something had been done
