Journalist Mario Guevara reunites with sons after deportation to El Salvador
Salvadoran journalist Mario Guevara, recently deported from the United States, reunited with his sons on Sunday, October 5, at El Salvador’s Monsenor Romero International Airport after months of separation.
Salvadoran journalist Mario Guevara, known for his live coverage of US immigration raids, was deported by the US authorities to El Salvador on Friday, October 3, following more than three months in federal custody.
Guevara was arrested during a "No Kings" protest in Atlanta and subsequently had his work permit revoked before being forcibly removed from the country despite fighting his case through the immigration system.
Guevara told Reuters he plans to resume his journalism work in El Salvador.
His case has drawn attention to challenges faced by immigrant journalists in the US amid ongoing debates over press freedom and immigration enforcement policies.
