05:52đã từng bỏ lỡ, đã từng bỏ lỡ,
05:54cho nên chảy ra nó rất tốt.
05:56Oh, wait, guys,
05:57but it says Pickleball Tournament on top.
05:59Oh, Pickleball, okay.
06:01Our team là Poisonous Perfection.
06:03My name's Paulina Stovall,
06:05and I'm a professional pumpkin carver.
06:07Kareen is our cake sculptor,
06:09and Jamie is our sugar artist.
06:11She has made it to the finale twice,
06:13and she wants the third time to be the charm.
06:15So, we've got our two main characters,
06:17but it's the sugar spotlight.
06:18Should I try making the net out of sugar?
06:20It's going to be super risky,
06:22but I want to make the net.
06:24So, we are making Frankenstein and a zombie
06:28facing off at Pickleball.
06:30Perfect. Let's do it.
06:32Let's go. Let's go. Let's go.
06:34We need this guy.
06:38Yeah, baby.
06:40We're doing a swamp monster versus a witch.
06:42I'm really excited about the swamp monster in particular.
06:45So, this butternut squash should be perfect
06:47to mount on his shoulders,
06:48get something really creepy.
06:49I competed on Halloween Wars 12 years ago,
06:51so it means more than anything for me
06:53to get to the next round.
06:55This time, I'm going all out.
06:57That looks like my face every morning
06:59when I have my kids.
07:00I'm going to start with my tasting element right away.
07:02Natalie is doing a lot.
07:03She's doing our tasting element,
07:05and she's also got to do this entire witch.
07:07The black licorice,
07:08then pairing it with the white chocolate
07:10is going to be a challenge,
07:11but I'm super excited about it
07:12because I love black licorice.
07:14And I worked in restaurants as pastry chef,
07:16working with different flavors
07:18and being able to really create something unique.
07:22So, our tasting element is going to be a swamp rock.
07:26We are going to incorporate black rice,
07:28and then we're going to make it into rice pudding,
07:30and we're going to add caramelized white chocolate.
07:32And I'm going to incorporate some other flavors
07:34that taste like licorice, like fennel and star anise.
07:38Almost looks like chocolate.
07:41I'm actually making the rock shell out of white chocolate.
07:43So, when I unmold it, I'll just peel it off,
07:45and it's going to look like a swamp rock.
07:47So, I'm pouring, like, a backdrop here
07:50where it looks like perspective.
07:52I'm making an isomole background.
07:54It goes deep into the swamp.
07:56With my sugar this week,
07:57I want to show some different techniques
07:59that no one else does.
08:00I like to paint and pour layers
08:01and show depth in my sugar,
08:03and this is a really risky piece
08:05because if it breaks, there is no plan B.
08:07Hopefully, it hardens and it works.
08:12Okay.
08:14So, we got chocolate and olive,
08:16which is really unique.
08:17I hate olives.
08:19But we have to not shy away from that.
08:21It's not my taste palette.
08:22It's the judges.
08:23So, we're going to have chopped up olives in a shortbread.
08:26As a pastry chef,
08:28it's really important for me to show people what I can do.
08:31I have over 60 food allergies.
08:33I can't eat most of what I make,
08:35and yet I learned to really take other people's taste palettes
08:39into consideration.
08:40I still make these amazing desserts.
08:43Because we have olives and we're also in a bar scene,
08:45I want to have a martini-inspired dessert.
08:49So, I'm going to be adding vermouth to the chocolate ganache.
08:53It's a sugar spotlight, so I got to work on that as well.
08:56So, I really need to get this shortbread out of the way.
08:59Let's go to the oven.
09:01Rebecca and Serena are tag teaming the characters.
09:04The last time, I got so bogged down with the detail of the character.
09:08So, this time, we're actually going to collaborate
09:11on a lot of different pieces and elements.
09:14I'm going to be using the meat of the pumpkin
09:17to build out the legs of our werewolf.
09:19Last week, we won the competition.
09:21So, this week, we're coming in hot.
09:23My leg is a beast.
09:28Judges, I'm getting warmed up because this is a monster bash.
09:33Got to get loose because this is the first time these teams are all together.
09:37Right? Like, I'm seeing bigger pumpkins, bigger pieces of sugar.
09:41And then the sugar spotlight.
09:42And then the sugar spotlight on top of that.
09:44Yeah.
09:45I'm getting big fight energy from everybody on this floor tonight.
09:48There we go.
09:49Could you go baller with a giant pumpkin?
09:52For our pickleball face-off, I'm going to get started on the Frankenstein out of pumpkin.
09:57So, I'm using a very large pumpkin so that I can make the back of Frankenstein's jacket and body.
10:04We're looking decently solid so long as I can get my Frankenstein put together in a timely manner.
10:10Nice.
10:11You're going to use that for the zombie?
10:13Yeah.
10:14He's already have a sinking skull.
10:17No zombie has a complete skull.
10:19Karine is building our zombie at a rice cereal tree and modeling chocolate because it'll allow the zombie to have more motion.
10:26And that's definitely what we want to contrast our Frankenstein.
10:29Buddy, I'm going to give you a little butt.
10:32Oh my God, I love him so much.
10:34I've never really seen any pickleball paddle molds out there in the world.
10:37So, I'm going to create custom shaped like bat wing pickleball paddles out of poured sugar.
10:43Today's challenge is the sugar spotlight.
10:46So, all eyes are going to be on me.
10:49I've made it to the finals as a cake artist.
10:51I've lost twice.
10:53I really need to show them that I'm not just a cake sculptor.
10:57I can come in here and I can get some sugar done.
11:01In school, I was always the artist.
11:04I was never really in sports.
11:06So, this is probably the closest that I'm ever going to get to really playing sports at any point in time.
11:12Got some beautiful wings.
11:14Six hours, six hours left.
11:17What?
11:18Holy crap.
11:19What's our vampire's name?
11:21This thing Freddy.
11:22This thing Freddy.
11:23We have a vampire versus a goblin in an eating contest.
11:27I'm starting on covering the pillars in modeling chocolate.
11:32And I'm going to give them a nice wooden texture.
11:35I am creating a structure that is towering over all of the characters.
11:40And our vampire will be hanging down from the top.
11:43The airbrush color seeps down into all of the cracks and really brings out the texture of the wood grain.
11:49I used to want to be an astronaut and then I was a math teacher.
11:53I may not have made it to space yet, but my cakes defy gravity.
11:59He's flirting as vampire.
12:01The vampire and the goblin's face are both made out of pumpkin.
12:06So, right now I'm doing the vampire head.
12:09Michael is a helicopter mechanic.
12:11He believes himself to be the fastest carver in the world.
12:14So, Michael.
12:15Yeah.
12:16Where did you learn from pumpkin carving?
12:17Salt thought.
12:18That's amazing.
12:19Kelly, have you seen this face?
12:22He's so believable.
12:23He's just like a real vampire.
12:25They're so cute.
12:26Got little legs.
12:28I'm going to make the table that's holding all the bugs they're eating.
12:32The eyes for our characters out of Isomalt.
12:35It's the sugar spotlight so we have to have sugar everywhere on our piece.
12:38Somebody's got to go home and I just don't want it to be us.
12:41I love being a paralegal, but sugar is my passion.
12:45I'd like to show them that I have some versatility in the different kinds of techniques I can use.
12:51Right now I'm making the glasses for the vampire to drink his blood out of.
12:58I think this will work.
13:00Got to make the red for the inside.
13:03And then I'll pour some red Isomalt in it after it dries to make it look like a little good wine.
13:10Just a little too.
13:12Oh, we're having issues now.
13:16My glass is melting.
13:17Ouch.
13:19Not great.
13:20Shoot.
13:23A little too hot.
13:25Definitely don't have time for this, but it's a key piece of our story, so got to make it work.
13:30I'm making a new glass.
13:31I'm going to pour the stem as clear, but I'll pour the rest as red.
13:35Okay.
13:36The fact that this is the sugar spotlight, definitely I was feeling more pressure today.
13:40I just want to, you know, show everybody that I can do this.
13:43Kelly is a self-taught sugar artist, and being here means so much to her.
13:49But we absolutely do not have any more time to do things a second or a third time.
13:56Everybody here is extremely talented, but I am too.
14:01Oh, holly freaking loo ya.
14:04It worked?
14:05Yeah.
14:06Don't jinx me.
14:07I am starting with the troll's head.
14:10I'm trying to make him look creepy and troll-like.
14:14We have the Grim Reaper and a troll MMA fighting.
14:17Margaery is going to be making the troll completely out of pumpkin.
14:20Just putting a first layer of color on this guy.
14:23I'm building the Grim Reaper out of cake and rice cereal.
14:27Okay, I'm going to go ahead and start covering this in chocolate.
14:30Last challenge, we were not on point with our proportions.
14:34We were at the bottom too.
14:35Those characters are too big, which makes the story hard to follow.
14:39Margaery.
14:40Yes.
14:41That's how big the head of your thing is going to be?
14:43Yes.
14:44There's a lot of anxiety because we had so much to prove based on our last challenge.
14:49Hopefully, the judges will appreciate the progress we've made.
14:53Oh, that looks awesome.
14:54Thank you.
14:55You look so good.
14:56Aw.
14:57Like, I want to give it a little bit more curve, right?
14:59Yeah.
15:00Yeah.
15:01So I'm thinking something like that.
15:02Today, it's a sugar spotlight, so I'm going to show up and show out.
15:05We plan on making the weapons that the MMA fighters, the troll, and the Grim Reaper are using.
15:11I'm about to pour the Grim Reaper's scythe blade.
15:14I've been doing pastry for 19 years.
15:17I've done Halloween Wars twice.
15:19We had come in second, which was the best I had done.
15:23I'm going to do everything I can to win.
15:25I really want to show the judges that I can do some fine detail work with some really intricate pulling,
15:30and I want to show them that we can do a big piece front and center of this to show catcher.
15:34Okay.
15:35For the handle, we're going to pull some brown isomalt so it feels like a little bit of a gnarly piece of wood.
15:40Okay.
15:41Sweet.
15:42Perfect.
15:43You're looking at five hours on the clock.
15:46What?
15:47Five hours.
15:48Oh, we really got to move.
15:49Oh, yeah.
15:50I need all that bacon grease.
15:52Jamie is making the peanut butter mousse stuffed with a bacon caramel and covered in milk chocolate and wafer cookie pieces.
16:00Peanut butter can come off as salty, and bacon is really salty, so I've got to make sure that things are going to be balanced.
16:06Even my caramel smells like bacon, and it's delicious.
16:10I'm putting my dessert in my chocolate coating.
16:13I am unmolding my chocolate pickle balls.
16:16And what better place to put our tasting element than in the pickle balls?
16:20Pickle ball with dessert.
16:23That is incredible.
16:25Is that a new technique?
16:26There's a first time for everything.
16:28We have a mummy and a werewolf in a dance-off.
16:31I'm creating some furry texture for our werewolf's legs by layering up strips of pumpkin, and it's giving me this nice furry effect.
16:41I try to keep things fresh and new by just always challenging myself, incorporating new techniques that other people aren't used to seeing.
16:48I went to school to be an art teacher, but stopped teaching about a year ago, and I work as a tattoo artist.
16:54The pumpkin fur, you can almost see it, you know, swaying in the breeze.
16:59There's movement.
17:00Yeah, it's really incredible.
17:01Out of pumpkin.
17:02Out of pumpkin.
17:03I love that these characters are literally half pumpkin for legs and then rice cereal for head and body, and they're just blending so well.
17:14I might have a crush on this werewolf.
17:15I know.
17:16That's got some size to it.
17:19That's some work.
17:20This is swamp monster versus witch.
17:23I decided to go with the fittest swamp monster you ever saw.
17:26I mean, this guy's ripped.
17:29Oh, look at that.
17:30Nils was the inspiration for this, man.
17:33Face, not the body, homie.
17:35Ouch.
17:36What's your theme, David?
17:37Beating you, bro.
17:38That's the theme.
17:39That's the theme.
17:40Bro, swamp monster, man.
17:42Oh, yeah?
17:43Feeling at home?
17:44Remember, we're friends, bro.
17:46What color you got in there?
17:48Green and then black.
17:49Years ago on Halloween Wars, we actually won an episode with a swamp monster.
17:53So I'm hoping to do the same.
17:56Look at the hair.
17:57Oh, I love that.
17:58And it's coming down because of gravity.
18:00Yes, that makes sense.
18:01And I love that you added the texture in right there.
18:04It looks so good.
18:05Okay, now I'm going to start on Goblin Head.
18:07I want my team to stand out by showing our gravity-defying designs
18:12and our attention to detail.
18:14I'm using, again, barinette squash
18:17because the thickness that I'm looking for
18:20these small guys right here.
18:22It's fun.
18:23I love it.
18:24Those two faces are so developed already.
18:27I will say I'm hoping that we get some storytelling happening.
18:31They're not static characters standing next to this massive pile of insects.
18:36We need to make sure we convey it's an eating competition other than a banner that says
18:40eating competition.
18:41Right.
18:43I'm going to be making a 3D disco ball that's going to light up on the top of our piece,
18:49but I need all the individual tiles.
18:51Last year, I was eliminated on the sugar spotlight.
18:55It's really important that I bring something the judges have never seen before.
18:59I don't want to embarrass my mom.
19:01She tells everybody I'm here.
19:02Yeah.
19:03Oh, she's proud.
19:04She bought me a cake decorating tool kit for my 19th birthday.
19:08So I'm here because of her.
19:10I'm going to create a disco ball attached to a mirror backdrop.
19:14Nice and hot and crystal clear.
19:17Once I pour it on the backboard, it is not coming off and there is no backup plan.
19:22Guys, we have a mirror.
19:27So I'm going to start working on her body.
19:29Okay.
19:30Natalie's making the witch's body.
19:31I work very well under pressure, especially out here in Vegas where I work for people with
19:36all the money that want something in 12 hours.
19:39I've done stuff most cake artists would think is impossible to do.
19:43I'm not going to take a ton of time to do it, but I'm going to make it look like it's like
19:46the puffy ruffle.
19:47She's a fashion witch.
19:49Yes.
19:50I've got to be the tree.
19:51I've got to put another layer of dark on top.
19:53Great.
19:54And then when it dries, I can dust it up and then we can attach it.
19:57Kim is great.
19:58We're not only both artists, but we're old school rockers.
20:01I grew up very, very shy.
20:02I just spent all my time in the art room, just hung out there.
20:05I never talked to anyone.
20:06It was really quiet.
20:07Three years ago, I joined a band.
20:09My husband, like, beat percussion.
20:11So I go, okay, now I'm half lead singer.
20:14And we rock the house.
20:16The amount of ding-dang time him has put into this backdrop, layer upon layer, to make
20:22it feel like woods.
20:24It's a lot of time just for the backdrop.
20:27I'm kind of freaking out inside, just wondering if it's going to work.
20:30Because if it breaks, it's totally over.
20:32We're done.
20:33Man, that is badass.
20:34Yeah.
20:35Good work, man.
20:36Kudos.
20:37Oh, my God.
20:38So it goes right on a ledge.
20:39Oh, gosh.
20:40Oh, gosh.
20:41Oh, gosh.
20:42Oh.
20:43I don't, oh.
20:44Gentle.
20:45Gentle.
20:46Gentle.
20:47Oh.
20:48Yuck.
20:49Yeah.
20:50The vibrations on the board.
20:52Oh, gosh.
20:53Oh, gosh.
20:54Oh, gosh.
20:55And now we're at the point of no return.
20:56If we bump or shatter this thing in any way, then we're finished.
20:59There's no way to recover, frankly.
21:01All right.
21:02Oh, yeah.
21:03I mean, I know I wouldn't walk away from that.
21:05Is it holding?
21:06Yeah.
21:07Cool, cool, cool.
21:13We are going to be combining black pepper and blackberries.
21:17We are going to make a black pepper cake, and then we're going to make an Italian buttercream,
21:20which we will also hit with some black pepper.
21:23The trick is it's going to be have enough black pepper, but not enough to choke you.
21:26So black pepper in a dessert definitely sounds weird to me.
21:29And we're going to pour the blackberry compote in there.
21:32It is the goo bucket for the troll and grim reaper.
21:36Oh, it looks delicious.
21:39Smells good.
21:40Teams, we're looking at two hours left.
21:42Oh, my gosh.
21:43I am chopping these pecans for my tasting element.
21:46Our challenge was feta and honey.
21:49I decide to make baklava bites, cut them into the shape of cute little bug carcasses in our eating contest.
21:56How much feta do you think I should add?
21:58It needs to taste like a lot of feta when we add the honey, so it needs to be really strong.
22:03Right.
22:04My baklava recipe.
22:05It's a recipe I make all the time at home with my kids.
22:08Every stage of my baking, my kids will be in the kitchen begging for samples.
22:12And I want to incorporate feta into it.
22:15So you want a thin layer in between each of those sheets of phyllo dough and more butter.
22:21I'm cutting it into a teardrop shape and then cutting it in half so they look like discarded wing parts of the bugs.
22:27I hope the judges can taste that feta.
22:32How are you doing?
22:34I think I'm doing really good.
22:36So I'm about to pipe the net.
22:38Jamie is casting a net for our Frankenstein versus zombie pickleball court.
22:43Oh, hot.
22:45Hot on my fingers.
22:47Artie and Shinman have definitely seen me doing all my cake sculpting work.
22:52But they've never seen me as a sugar artist before.
22:55I am piping isomalt.
22:56It can be a more dangerous technique.
22:58You have to be super careful working with it.
23:00But I have to do it this way to get this lattice look of a net.
23:04There's no other way to do it.
23:05It's going to be a little risky, but it's the sugar spotlight.
23:09Done.
23:10That's what breakdancers are called.
23:12They're b-boys.
23:13Oh.
23:14We've got tiles.
23:16Every dance floor needs a disco ball.
23:19So I'm going to create a domed disco ball with a light inside and really light up our scene.
23:24Okay, so I'm going to take my balloon with a little bit of water and some air in here.
23:29And we're just going to dip it to that hot, fresh ice malt.
23:33Emerly has gone to town with the sugar work, the disco ball.
23:37She has a ton of little isomalt squares that she's going to be piecing on there and painting them different colors.
23:44So hopefully it's going to read like a disco ball.
23:46This is the most important piece for my sugar spotlight.
23:49It cannot break.
23:50Because I don't have the time to do this again.
23:52Woo hoo hoo.
23:53Okay, guys.
23:55You ready for this?
23:56Oh, my God!
23:57Yay!
23:58Yes!
23:59Okay, moving on.
24:00Okay.
24:01I'm doing the target now.
24:02We have to have this target because this is the story.
24:05This story is a swamp and axe throwing.
24:07So what I'm going to do is I'm going to put the one ring in and I have to pour really careful and just get white just up to the level of the red that I already have that's about this deep.
24:21And hopefully that works.
24:23We got a target.
24:24Woo hoo!
24:25I'm going to build the axe on it and then hang it.
24:29First, I'm taking the hot isomalt and kind of cooling it down.
24:33And then it turns into a clay.
24:35Because this axe is the monster from the swamp, it's going to be kind of primitive.
24:40I don't want it to be like, you know, you went to a store and bought it.
24:43It doesn't look like it is yet, but these are going to be tiny people.
24:48We have the Grim Reaper and a Trill MMA fighting.
24:51Our backboard is going to look like the audience watching the fight.
24:54I'm painting the people out of buttercream and nails will be constructing the cage wires out of isomalt.
25:00I am a fan.
25:01All right, just make sure you're lined up over there.
25:03Yep, looks good to me.
25:05I'm just about to lay up the back cages.
25:07So let's see what happens.
25:09All right, it's working.
25:11I am finishing putting the cages on the back.
25:14It looks good.
25:15The character's got to get on, tasting element has to get on, and then the scythe has to get on.
25:21Cool, it's coming.
25:22Okay.
25:23Okay.
25:24All right.
25:25Yep, we're on.
25:26We managed to get Frankenstein attached, but I still need to paint this whole guy and make his head.
25:33Paulina.
25:34Yeah.
25:35Head.
25:36We only have like an hour and 20.
25:39So now's the point that we need to decide whether or not we have to completely change plans.
25:42Like, do we need to bust out a Rice Krispie treat head to throw on him?
25:48Yes.
25:49Yes.
25:50Good.
25:51Thank you.
25:52Okay, let's do it.
25:53We're going to do a Rice Krispie treat and modeling chocolate Frankenstein head than it will be for me to carve it.
25:57And Karine steps in to do Frankenstein's head as fast as she can.
26:02Last challenge, I needed help to make her head at the last minute, and this time I'm the one who's making it.
26:07Once we get everything on there, it'll start to look really nice.
26:09It's going to start to come together.
26:10It looks good.
26:12Teams, it's a fight to the finish.
26:16One hour left.
26:17We're moving.
26:18We got one hour.
26:19We got one hour.
26:20We got to go.
26:21I'm about to do something really cool.
26:22I really want to have one of the martini glasses shattering the mirror on the backdrop.
26:27So before we put it up, I'm going to break the mirror.
26:34I'm trying to give the effect of smashing glass from the chaos of the dance-off.
26:39Guys, it worked.
26:40Yay!
26:41Let's get it up.
26:42Everything is secure.
26:44Walk around the pumpkin.
26:45Got it?
26:46Yeah.
26:47Okay.
26:50Okay.
26:51Backdrop just at the top surface, if that's possible.
26:55So, like, not below this.
27:00Oh, no!
27:05Okay, um...
27:11Um, what else can we do?
27:14I'm thinking...
27:16When sugar breaks, sugar takes a long time to reconstruct.
27:20There is absolutely no chance that she can repair or create something similar.
27:24Let's pivot.
27:25Let's try something I've never done before.
27:27The plan is to still make this a disco ball and to still make it domed.
27:34And we'll see how that turns out.
27:37I'm adding some texture to it so it still has those squares.
27:40And then I'm just going to lay it on top of a dome pan while it's warm.
27:45Okay, guys.
27:46We're going to have to try this now.
27:48I got this.
27:49I got this.
27:50I got this.
27:51I got this.
27:52Yes.
27:53Let's see where all the people are.
27:55Okay.
27:56How did she turn that around so quickly?
27:58That is amazing.
27:59Just hold this.
28:00That is your job right now.
28:01Just hold that.
28:0330 minutes on the clock!
28:04There's a pumpkin behind you.
28:06Go to your right.
28:07To your right.
28:08To your right.
28:09Right there.
28:10I'm worried about the color palette.
28:12Now that we've placed the two characters, I loathe the color palette.
28:17The faces are orange, the backdrop is orange, and everything is just melting together.
28:22We are going to add some color to the characters to try and brighten it up and see if we can fix it.
28:27Paint the shadows.
28:29Paint the shadow.
28:30We are not getting sent home today.
28:32All the sugar is made.
28:34I just don't want to put it on until we get done with this.
28:37Oh my gosh!
28:38Now let's get the rest of the stuff on.
28:40We gotta go fast.
28:42Yeah.
28:43Okay.
28:44Okay.
28:45I'm getting my bucket for the tasting elements.
28:47So what we have here is a black pepper pound cake, and we've got black pepper buttercream,
28:52and we're gonna pour all of the blackberry compote in there, so when they cut it, it all runs out.
28:58Once you're done airbrushing, I'm gonna put the scythe in and glue it together, okay?
29:03Okay.
29:04Okay.
29:05I'm gonna start putting sugar stuff on here, so please nobody bang it.
29:09I have to put on the paddles.
29:10We have to put balls all over everything.
29:13Cool.
29:14Nice.
29:20We're good.
29:21Okay.
29:22We need to start getting some other stuff.
29:25I think it's gonna be good.
29:26Just don't bump anything.
29:28Okay.
29:29Oh.
29:30Oh.
29:31Oh my God.
29:32What happened?
29:33Can you fix the ax with a torch?
29:35A little torch?
29:36Hey, don't worry.
29:37Don't worry.
29:38We can fix it with a torch.
29:39You can fix it with a torch.
29:40I'll stand there and hold it for the last 30 minutes.
29:42My ax got broken.
29:43It got knocked and broken off and now I'm trying to remake it.
29:47Thing is, you can't use freeze spray or anything like that because that cracks isomal.
29:51I'm just worried about the paint because I'm not sure how that's gonna react.
29:55Not sure.
29:56It's going to.
29:57It's gonna work.
29:58It's gonna work.
29:59Is there any details?
30:00Step back and see if there's any details we should be concerned about right now.
30:04I've done a lot of competitions.
30:06You learn to compartmentalize.
30:08I will cry later.
30:09Thank you.
30:10When I don't go home.
30:11I spent so much time on that first disco ball and I put off a lot of other things that
30:17were important like the martini glasses and the tasting element.
30:21And now everything is piling on me.
30:23This is the sugar spotlight.
30:25I've let my team down.
30:27Okay.
30:28Tasting element.
30:29Tasting element.
30:30Do you have anything else you need to do?
30:32Two minutes.
30:33Two minutes on the clock.
30:34Keep pushing all the way until the end.
30:35Careful, careful, careful.
30:36It's gonna work.
30:37I know it is.
30:38I'm querying it in.
30:39Don't put a lot.
30:40Just a little bit.
30:41Does the vampire need to be holding a bug too?
30:44No.
30:45I'm adding the tasting element right now.
30:47Ten.
30:48Just be super careful when you're painting him.
30:49Nine.
30:50Come on.
30:51Hustle, bustle.
30:52Eight.
30:53Seven.
30:54Bow it out some.
30:55Barely a touch.
30:56We gotta keep going.
30:57Come on, come on, come on.
30:58That's good.
30:59That's good.
31:00Three.
31:01Is this enough?
31:02Two.
31:03One.
31:04Time's up.
31:05Yay.
31:06We're done.
31:07Oh my God.
31:08Oh my God.
31:09So good.
31:10That is a wedding piece.
31:12I don't know.
31:13We'll see.
31:14We'll see.
31:15Oven Coven, tell us what you did.
31:25So our crazy big swamp monster took the first throw.
31:30They nailed bullseye.
31:32Witches don't play fair.
31:34The swamp monster, the hand, the logs, their carved pumpkin and butternut squash.
31:38The witch, cake, rice cereal treat.
31:41And Kim made all the crazy sugar work with the bullseye, the axe, the killer backdrop.
31:46You took a big risk, Kim, putting the majority of your sugar in the back of your piece.
31:55And I think it paid off.
31:57It is so effective.
31:58It draws your eye in.
32:00And it has this feeling of being plucked right out of those old swamp movies.
32:05David, you are one of the best pumpkin carvers we have here.
32:09You are so deft in creating these textures.
32:12I just see so much lively movement to your piece.
32:16You guys are getting better and better at telling your story.
32:19What did you make for our tasting element?
32:21Black licorice and white chocolate were our ingredients.
32:23Today we made for you swamp rocks.
32:26Swamp rocks!
32:27Yeah!
32:28It is layered with a black licorice forbidden rice rice pudding with a caramelized white chocolate ganache.
32:35And then a brown butter sponge cake.
32:38I really love that you use the forbidden rice in here because it added this interesting chewy texture.
32:45And I can taste the licorice loud and clear.
32:48You caramelized your white chocolate, which gives it this sort of nuttiness that's also echoed in your brown butter cake.
32:53So this is a very intelligent dessert.
32:56Thank you.
32:57Appreciate it.
33:00We have our zombie Neo, who is totally into pickleball.
33:06Frankenstein is a little too stiff to compete.
33:08The sugar work, the amazing net that Jamie made, as well as the paddles and the pickleball is chocolate.
33:16Jamie, I love that you went for it and you piped piping hot sugar.
33:21Great job.
33:22And the fact that they are able to stand up straight and secure, that's a big, big risk and you did it.
33:27But with Frankenstein, in order for us to believe that's Frankenstein's monster, I want to see, like, stitching around the face.
33:33You did such a great job of contrasting the zombie's fluidity with Frankenstein's rigidity.
33:41It's just hilarious.
33:42Thank you.
33:43Thank you.
33:44What are we tasting today?
33:45The ingredients that we got were peanut butter and bacon.
33:49Inside of the pickleballs, we have peanut butter mousse with a chewy caramel made with bacon fat, surrounded with crispy, salty bacon, and rolled in milk chocolate and crispy wafer pieces.
34:02I think this is a very balanced bite.
34:05I get salt.
34:06I get sweet.
34:07The teeny, tiniest little bacon bits I've ever had in my life.
34:11They sort of pop.
34:12And so you get these teeny little explosions of salt as you take bites.
34:16I love that the peanut butter is so smooth and silky because peanut butter is also really thick.
34:22It gives you that sort of smack-a-roo sensation to the mousse.
34:26These flavors are well-rounded.
34:28Hey!
34:29Hey!
34:30Great job, guys.
34:31Thank you.
34:32Thank you.
34:33That's really cool.
34:36Winston the werewolf and Murgatroyd the mummy walking into the club, seeing the disco ball drop.
34:42Winston confuses it as the moon and transforms.
34:45The pumpkin components are Winston's legs and Murgatroyd's face and ribs.
34:52Cake is Winston's abs, and sugar components are the martini glasses as well as the disco ball and the mirror behind the bar.
35:02Ladies, I just want to commend you on these super strong characters.
35:07The abs on the werewolf, they are popping.
35:10Absolutely stunning.
35:12My heart was breaking for you, Emily, but I can't believe you pulled out another disco ball.
35:17And it's almost a happy accident because this one is thinner and the light was able to come through it better,
35:22so it actually reads more as a disco ball.
35:25As soon as you look at this, you know it's a dance-off.
35:28The pumpkin fur, there's so much movement to it, so much texture.
35:32Emily, this is not your strongest sugar work. Let's just say it.
35:35Emily, I think it would have been helpful to fill up the space a little bit and just to do something different other than martini glasses.
35:45There are moments that really work here, and then there are moments that feel a little disappointing.
35:50What'd you make for us to eat today?
35:52It was chocolate and olive.
35:54So what I have here is a vermouth noir shortbread frizz.
36:00The vermouth to me is so inspired.
36:04It gives it this sort of minerality that makes the olive make sense and for some reason makes the chocolate make sense.
36:13I don't understand it.
36:15This shortbread is so airy.
36:18When you bite into it, it just crumbles apart immediately.
36:21It's leaning very savory, but I really like that.
36:24Thank you.
36:25Thank you.
36:26They liked chocolate and olives.
36:28What?
36:29Come on.
36:30Hopefully that saves us.
36:34All of the monsters of Transylvania have gathered to witness the eating competition between a vampire and a goblin.
36:41We've created our characters out of cake, rice cereal treats with a pumpkin head.
36:46This table up here is made completely from isomalt, as are all of the bugs on the table and the sugar glasses up front.
36:54Kelly, I know today is the sugar spotlight, and you definitely gave us a lot of sugar, but they're very small pieces.
37:01And when you're using a mold to form all these bugs, think about cleaning the edges for us to really read the shape of the bugs.
37:09I commend you for seeing a problem that there was too much orange and trying to fix it.
37:14The thing to me is I don't think we're getting the sense that these guys are competing against each other by eating as much as possible.
37:20Some sense of movement I think would have really served your peace.
37:24What's your tasting element?
37:25Our ingredients were feta and honey.
37:28Today we have for you a mini baklava bite layered with chopped pecans and feta, and then topped with a honey sauce.
37:37You've got three baklava snobs standing in front of you.
37:42And this is very good.
37:44You managed to get a really light, crispy baklava made in such a teeny tiny bite without overwhelming it with that honey syrup.
37:53My bite, it was absolutely perfect.
37:55The first sensation I got was crunch, and it just felt like disgusting, like I was biting into a bug.
38:03Terrifying trio. Thank you.
38:05Thank you so much.
38:06Thank you so much.
38:07Yeah, see my stuff is too small.
38:09Hopefully we can move to the next one.
38:12Welcome to the largest fight night of the year for the monster world.
38:16The number one contender, the terrible troll, is fighting the reigning champion, the grim reaper.
38:21For the terrible troll, he's made of all pumpkin, the reaper is made of cake, the backboard is painted with buttercream,
38:28and the cage is made of sugar, and the weapons are also made of sugar.
38:32You totally captured the energy and the excitement of an MMA night.
38:38The sugar work is front and center.
38:40Gorgeous pumpkin carving from you, Margie, on that troll head.
38:44One thing, though, you hid the foot in the back behind the grim reaper.
38:49It looks like this goblin does not have a body.
38:53Tanisha, this fabric is so smooth.
38:57And where we have the rips, you went in there and you gave us intentional, beautiful rips.
39:02What's our tasting element?
39:03Blackberry and black pepper.
39:05So what we've brought to you today is the mop-up bucket from the previous rounds.
39:09A black pepper pound cake layered with a black pepper buttercream and blackberry compote.
39:14I love that this cake is super moist.
39:16I think that it's the addition of the blackberry that really helps pull in some of the savoriness of the cracked pepper that you have in there as well.
39:24When I first took a bite of this cake, I was like, nope, don't taste it.
39:28And then I felt the heat very gently start to tickle the back of my throat.
39:33I really like it.
39:34Thank you.
39:35Thank you.
39:36Good job.
39:37Fafa.
39:38We asked you to imagine all sorts of monsters in a series of scary square-offs.
39:45One team delivered an epic fight on Halloween night.
39:50The winner of this challenge is...
39:59Oven Coven.
40:00Yeah!
40:01Unfortunately, terrifying trio and wicked sculptors.
40:13The judges felt your work was the weakest.
40:17Terrifying trio, the anti-gravity vampire is very impressive.
40:22But the characters are not interacting with each other or the food.
40:26And this is supposed to be an eating competition.
40:29Wicked sculptors.
40:31The way that you were able to blend the disciplines of cake and pumpkin was amazing.
40:37With the spotlight on sugar, there were definitely mistakes made that affected the visual impact of the piece.
40:43Unfortunately, the team going home tonight is...
40:53Terrifying trio.
40:56I'm sorry.
40:57I am extremely disappointed.
40:58It means so much to me to be at Halloween Wars.
40:59It was like a stab to the heart.
41:09I don't know what I feel.
41:19Congratulations to the rest of you.
41:22You're all moving on.
41:23But we have a second chance and this is really going to push us to work even harder.
41:27We'll see you next time.
41:28Thank you.
41:29Good night.
41:30Great job, everybody.
41:32Next time on Halloween Wars, in the skills spotlight today, the pumpkin carvers.
41:38I'm going to carve the biggest Frankenstein that Halloween Wars has ever seen.
41:42We almost went home in the sugar spotlight, so this week we need to come back strong.
41:47We can't attach the limbs until he's on the board.
41:49It doesn't need to be attached.
41:50She's doing twice the work that she normally has done.
41:54If we go home, I'm going to feel like it's all on my head.
