The Election Commission has confirmed that the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections will be conducted before November 22. During a meeting with the poll panel, the Bihar BJP urged for the verification of burqa-clad voters' identities at polling booths, sparking a political controversy with the RJD terming it a 'political conspiracy'. An unidentified speaker justified the demand, by saying, "It is important that the voter's identity is recognised." Political parties also pressed for the polls to be held after the Chhatt festival, which begins on October 25. While the JDU called for a single-phase election similar to Maharashtra, the RJD advocated for non-staggered polls. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar also praised Bihar's successful implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, noting it will soon be implemented across the nation.
