00:00I know that people will want to do the Mac versus Brock.
00:03You and I are more in the moment of the celebrating of the victory,
00:07but I think there's plenty of time for that debate,
00:09even though neither one of us thinks there's actually a debate.
00:12I'm right now on this day, Friday, basking in Mac Jones.
00:17And what Mac Jones, like Mac Jones,
00:21they were going to draft him apparently years ago.
00:24And now he's their backup, and I thought that he could be a good backup.
00:28I never thought in my wildest dreams that he'd be 3-0 as the backup.
00:32No, no.
00:32And you know I was bullish on Mac.
00:34You were.
00:35And I thought, hey, if you have to go to Mac, they can win with Mac.
00:38I didn't think that they would do this with Mac.
00:40How could you?
00:41And again, as we've pointed out, and this goes for Brock's two games this year too,
00:45like, don't get it twisted.
00:48They are one breath away from being 1-4.
00:51There's only one game this year where you're like,
00:53ooh, Niners super-duper outplayed the opponent.
00:56And that was in New Orleans.
00:57It still was a one-score game.
00:58It was still a one-score game.
00:59But the other four games do not mess this up.
01:03They absolutely could have gone either way.
01:06I think I can give you three plays
01:08and tell you that the Niners lose their 0-3 in the division.
01:12Okay.
01:13Tonjes jumps in front of a defender in Seattle.
01:16Win.
01:17Marvin Harrison catches either of the two balls he dropped.
01:20You win.
01:22And Kyron Williams doesn't fumble and goes across the goal line.
01:24Yeah, you probably win with a minute five to go, minute two, whatever it was.
01:29I think the Niners are 1-4 if those three plays go the other way.
01:32Right.
01:32And this is where I think about last year.
01:35And that's where the 2-2 Atwell gave me PTSD because last year 2-2 was a big part of that
01:40complete collapse against the Rams.
01:43And so 2-2 gets that big catch in overtime, 38 yards.
01:48Now they're down to the 20.
01:50And it, okay, here we go.
01:51They're going to go in and score a touchdown.
01:53The Niners are going to lose.
01:558-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-70.
01:57I echo and back what Dibs just said.
02:00All opinions are always welcome on this show.
02:03If you would like to conversate about Mack and Brock,
02:07we're not going to, like, not take your call by any stretch.
02:11But I'm fully with you, Dibs.
02:13There is no controversy.
02:14The 49ers don't think there's a controversy.
02:16And whatever's going to happen at Tampa or down the road, I don't even know if either
02:20of them are healthy, quite frankly.
02:23So, to me, it's kind of an irrelevant conversation right now.
02:27I don't want to spend too much time.
02:28Like, Mack was so impressive last night that I want to keep it there.
02:33But also, I will say this real quick.
02:35Like, if you think that Mack Jones and the 49ers as a whole are just carving up defenses
02:42right now, you're kidding yourself.
02:45That's not what's happening.
02:47They held on for dear life with six points in the second half yesterday.
02:51They scored 16 points against Arizona.
02:53You know what I mean?
02:54Like, we can, like, let, this is not, this is not that.
02:59It just isn't that.
03:01And just, real quick.
03:02There's plenty of time for all of life to unfold.
03:05And none of us know how it's going to go with health or otherwise.
03:08But, like, Brock Purdy's a quarterback of this football team.
03:13And he's lost a game since signing that contract.
03:16And so, to take the conversation there, I think, is unfair to everybody involved.
03:22Including Mack.
03:23Especially Mack.
03:24Like, that's not, like, you just, that's not where this should be today.
03:28That's all.
03:29That's what I think.
03:30And I'm with you.
03:30And their next game's in nine days.
03:32And so, we have nine more days to all poke around through who should it be.
03:36And if they're both healthy, it's going to be Brock.
03:39So, that kind of ends the controversy.
03:41If they're both healthy enough to play, that's the way this goes.
03:45And if you want to talk about other things, you can look at the fact that they still can't run the ball.
03:50Guys.
03:50Like, they still can't run the ball.
03:53The problems that we talked about yesterday remain.
03:56And actually, you want the under the covers biggest, biggest thing about them winning again yesterday
04:02with another magic act, that's one win closer to John Lynch acquiring a pass rusher.
04:09Yeah, possibly.
04:10Because the reason that they'll go acquire a pass rusher is if they feel like the 49ers have an opportunity to do something with it.
04:17They're not going to give up a draft pick or two if they feel like you're bolstering a team that's three and five.
04:23But now, by the way, you're not just four and one.
04:26You're kind of six and one.
04:27Like, you're three and O in the division with two of them being on the road.
04:31Like, my God.
04:34And you're not healthy yet.
04:36You know what I mean?
04:36And you're four and O in the conference.
04:38Exactly.
04:38If you want to talk about second tier tiebreakers.
04:40That's the stuff that you bolster.
04:42That's right.
04:42That's what you bolster.
04:43That's right.
04:44And you don't have to bolster it with the best pass rusher who might possibly be available.
04:48But I do think that they are going to need bodies.
04:51If Jeter Gross Matos misses a couple of games and you don't have Bosa, you're going to need to get at least human beings who can come in and be a part of the rotation.
04:59Seriously.
05:01Yeah.
05:01Who'd they trade for?
05:02A human being.
05:03Right.
05:03A big guy.
05:04Yeah.
05:04Jonathan in the city is next.
05:05We're going to get to everybody.
05:06Be patient.
05:07A lot of people want to get in.
05:08You woke up today.
05:09What's the first thought you had about last night?
05:11Hi, Jonathan.
05:12Thanks for calling.
05:14Hi.
05:14Thanks for taking my phone call.
05:16What an unbelievable win.
05:19I thought at first, towards the end there, I thought we were going to get a heartbreak because I swear to God, I thought that McVay is going to call another one of those routes that we can't stop or at least a quick slant to Devontae and Poco.
05:34They're both big bodies.
05:36And thank God he had a brain fart.
05:40And they came away with a win, a walk-off.
05:43Wow, what a gritty performance, man.
05:47So, I think Mack Jones died at least two or three times during the game.
05:51And he just kept on getting up and fighting.
05:55So, if you're a QB and you want to have a rejuvenation sensation, come over in San Francisco and play under Kyle's wonderful scheme.
06:05Amen.
06:06Amen.
06:07Amen.
06:07And that's the kind of performance that just, you know, don't take it from me, but just take it from Kyle's play calling.
06:16For the first time in his 49er tenure, I feel like I'm seeing Kyle calling plays just to beat the defenses.
06:25You know, he doesn't have to take into account that, hey, you know, my quarterback might not be able to make this throw.
06:32So, I have to call this, you know, conservatively.
06:36It's just what I see.
06:38I want to see more of Mack Jones because imagine Mack with George and Purcell and Aiyuk and all the other guys.
06:47Go Niners!
06:47Okay, Jonathan, thanks very much.
06:49Yeah, just a tremendously gritty and intelligent performance.
06:57This was a very intelligent performance by the 49ers yesterday.
07:01Yeah, that to me was the epitome of complimentary football.
07:04The offense in the first half, they kept it.
07:07The defense stayed fresh.
07:08And in the second half, the offense was a little bit more in a struggle mode and the defense stepped up.
07:14And the special teams, and I know Grandy's grades later in the show will do maybe a quicker version than normal.
07:20But, my God, the special teams was truly, truly special.
07:25Yep, yep.
07:25They did not.
07:26They made tackles.
07:27They blocked an extra point.
07:28They blocked an extra point.
07:30Your kicker.
07:31The doinker.
07:32Dude, not just the doinker.
07:33The doinker, bro.
07:34The doinker was just, that was romantic.
07:37But the 59-yarder was slinging it.
07:40Yep.
07:41That's when you walk into the bar and you're like, Reggie Hammond is here.
07:44That's right.
07:45Like, I mean, dude.
07:46There's a new sheriff in town.
07:47Well, the whole thing, the whole idea about Eddie was that, like, super accurate, but he can't get the big banger long one.
07:55And did you hear what Kyle said about that decision?
07:59You're at the 41-yard line.
08:01I'm like, I don't know if they'll send him out.
08:02And he sent him out there.
08:04And after the game, his comment, we'll play it here in a sec, but his comment was basically like, screw it.
08:09Let's see what he's got.
08:10I'm like, that's incredible.
08:13And then he kicked that thing with five yards to spare easy.
08:17I was like, man, man, we got ourselves the kicker.
08:22Here, play it.
08:22Here's Kyle on that decision.
08:24Yeah, it was close.
08:25We were pretty close on that line.
08:28Debated it for a little bit, but we said, screw it.
08:30Let's see what he's got.
08:31And he just showed us that we could have done it probably from the 45.
08:34It was a hell of a kick.
08:35Screw it.
08:35I like it.
08:37Well, I mean.
08:38I mean, yeah.
08:39Look.
08:39You didn't have much of a choice.
08:40Fourth and 10 at the 40.
08:42Well, you could punt.
08:43I mean.
08:44You could punt.
08:45Yeah.
08:45But no, like that's.
08:47Yeah, punt.
08:47Last night, that's what the vibe was.
08:50Kyle can be mad that the Niners were eight-point underdogs.
08:53But the bottom line is, that phrase, that's how you handle a game like that.
08:59You're missing five important starters on offense.
09:03Screw it.
09:03Screw it.
09:06What do you got to lose?
09:09And that's a good kicking environment.
09:11I mean, no weather issues, whatnot.
09:13And pay the over on field goals made.
09:17That's true.
09:17I said it yesterday at four and a half, and you're like, oh, that's an under.
09:20Do you realize how many field goals that is?
09:21Well, no, I still would have bet the under.
09:23Of course.
09:23But it turned out to be a great line.
09:25Let's keep going real quick.
09:28Let's go.
09:28Paul and Tracy.
09:29Hi, Paul.
09:29Thanks for the call.
09:32Hey, guys.
09:32Thanks for taking my call.
09:34Yeah, man.
09:36Yeah, so the thought which comes in my mind, it actually came in my mind before the game
09:41yesterday when they showed the stadium, and the stadium looked like full of red.
09:46There was like at least 60 to 65% Niners fan in there.
09:49To do that on a weekday in L.A. traffic, knowing all your starters are going to be out, I don't
09:54think any other fan base does that other than the Niners.
09:58So shout out to the Niners gang.
09:59Bang, bang.
10:00And I actually know one of my friends who went to the game yesterday, and he told me this
10:05on Tuesday, and I was like, bro, what are you doing?
10:08I mean, party's going to be out.
10:09Maybe Pierce Hall and as well as Jennings.
10:11And what he said to me was, this wasn't the word.
10:14I don't care.
10:15I hate L.A.
10:16I was like, yeah, bro.
10:17I mean, you do you.
10:19Let's go.
10:19So, yeah.
10:21Well, and Paul, thanks so much, man.
10:23Great call.
10:24The other side to it is, and this is what, like, to me, I whittle it all down to this
10:29on a day like today.
10:30Like, we're 49er fans.
10:32I don't know if everybody listening to us is.
10:34I'm a 49er fan.
10:35So, whoever's got that jersey and that helmet and that ball on that given night, dude, show
10:40out.
10:41Show out.
10:42I could not be more impressed with what Mac Jones did last night with what so many 49ers
10:47did last night.
