00:00Hi, you alright?
00:11Good job.
00:13So it's surviving.
00:15Surviving again.
00:17Good afternoon everyone, hope everyone's well.
00:32We'll kick off with the live section then we'll go into 10.30 tonight.
00:36If you're all ready, we'll kick off with Gary from Sky.
00:38Hi mate, thanks for your time.
00:40Can I get some, sorry to be traditional about things, but some injury latest.
00:45Gabriel obviously came off, you said at the time he didn't get us too bad,
00:49can you now confirm that?
00:50Yes, we'll have to wait and see after training.
00:53We've done almost nothing today, so we'll see how everybody is,
00:56but we weren't too concerned about him.
00:58And that hasn't changed, your not being concerned hasn't changed as much in the meantime.
01:03Yeah.
01:04In Kapia, what's the base on him?
01:10He will be available after international break.
01:12So we've been trying to do everything as fast as possible,
01:17but this came too fast and now we have the international break
01:21and hopefully after that he will have a couple of sessions with the team and ready to go.
01:25And with Kai, Noni and Gabi the same?
01:29They're still out, yeah.
01:30Can I just talk to you a little bit about the announcement of the England squad?
01:34MLS is in, Thomas Tuchel says this, is in the squad despite not playing the Premier League in this perhaps he would like to.
01:46He described it as a perfect citizen around the place and he wants that kind of person around the place.
01:52It won't always be enough, but this time it's enough.
01:54It almost feels the same way about Bakaya as well because he's back in the squad despite being back from injury,
02:01not having a full 90 minutes, but many others in a similar situation haven't been called back into the squad.
02:06Does that make you proud that you've got these kind of characters that international managers want to have them as part of their squad?
02:12Very much and coming from someone like Thomas, which I know very well, for him to describe MLS in that way, I think.
02:21Credit to the boy, the families and everybody that has been part of his education because that's very, very important as well.
02:28And MLS, as you said, he hasn't played probably all the minutes that he wanted, but he's professional in the way he's engaged with the team,
02:35whether he's here with the national team, at least gives you always the possibility to count on him.
02:39And there we have to play him in the Champions League, and I think he had a really good game.
02:43And with Saka, he's brought him back into the England squad, but others in a similar recovery situation haven't been called back in.
02:50Have you had a conversation with the England camp about managing his minutes?
02:54Not yet, but we always talk, and Thomas and I, we had always very fluent communication, both ways.
03:00First of all, from my side, to give feedback on where each of the players are,
03:05and after when they've been in camp as well, to reflect and learn how everything is gone.
03:10So I'm sure we will do that, and so far it's been very fluent and very positive communication.
03:16So a great fight back late on at Newcastle, a brilliant performance and result all over the pitch and from the bench on Wednesday.
03:23The Hummer heads off. Can you carry on like that against...
03:28That's what we want, to continue to play and flow and dominate games in the manner that we are doing,
03:34and this is going to be a key fixture.
03:37Obviously, we learned in the last two seasons as well, because we had two defeats against them here,
03:42and it's someone that we need to put right, and tomorrow is another opportunity to do that.
03:47I think with those two home defeats, obviously a different story away from home.
03:51One wide cap falls away from home, but at home, those two defeats back to back.
03:56I think you've only lost four of your last 42 home Premier League games,
04:00and half of them have been against West Ham.
04:02Have you become a bogey team?
04:04Well, and that's actually the difficulty of that, and the game that we're going to have to play tomorrow as well,
04:08and with the new manager, and we know Nuno really well in the way he sets his team,
04:12so we expect a really tough match that's going to demand again three days later
04:17to come back and have the same performance to win the game.
04:20And to win, go top of the table, even if it's only for a couple of hours,
04:23potentially go top of the table into the international break,
04:26how important would that be for building the rest of the season?
04:29Yeah, it's about generating momentum, and there are periods in the season that they are capital,
04:34and tomorrow's game is a really important one for us,
04:37and that's why from the beginning we need to generate that, the stadium as well,
04:41and go for it because after we have two weeks' break with the international week.
04:45And your 300th game?
04:48That's a lot.
04:50That's a lot.
04:5158% win rate or the GOAT of Arsenal managers? How far are you?
04:56Continue to go, the only thing that matters now is to go on Saturday again
05:02and maintain the feeling and the things that we're doing really well,
05:06and hopefully many, many more to come.
05:09You won't make 3,000 because you'll be too old and I won't be around.
05:13Let me do the calculations.
05:15110?
05:16But you could make 1,300, is that the target?
05:21The target is to win on Sunday and things will come.
05:24So when I started on day one I had no clue for how long and with who I was going to be sitting in this chair,
05:30and the only thing that I can say is thank you and I enjoy every minute of it and for many more to come, hopefully.
05:36Anita Brimley?
05:38Hi, Michael.
05:39Continuing with the theme of you now taking charge of 300 games come tomorrow,
05:44what would make the next 300 a success for you if you're here to see them?
05:50Again, winning.
05:52So you said about the winning rate, the highest.
05:55And even with that winning rate we haven't won major trophies.
05:59So that tells you the level.
06:01That's why you have to do what has been done before.
06:03At this level it's not enough, it has to be much more and it is much more difficult.
06:07That's what we'll try to focus on doing.
06:10Looking back at the game against Newcastle,
06:12you saw Gabriel getting that late winner.
06:15He's now scored 18 goals, the most of any defender in the league since his debut back in 2020.
06:22Just how proud are you of him and also the fact that you can rely on not-so-traditional members of the team
06:28to chip in with key goals?
06:30That's a fundamental part of a central defender, dominating both boxes.
06:35He does that probably like nobody else and that's the joy of having him in the team.
06:41It's your 300th game in charge tomorrow.
06:43It's Bukayo Saka if he plays, 200th Premier League appearance.
06:48Give us your thoughts on his progression since you've been here and how key he is for this team.
06:53While you were doing your answer, I visualised Bukayo playing as a left-back.
07:00That's the first thing that came to my mind against Bournemouth in my first game.
07:04Very far from the pitch, very far in his journey, very far as well personally
07:10and the person that he's becoming, the role he's got in the team.
07:14We had a great journey together and it's been a joy to see that every single day.
07:20And finally, with West Ham tomorrow, you've spoken about the two defeats when you met them at home in the previous two seasons.
07:28A win over them, would that show the growth in this Arsenal team when you think about points dropped in the last couple of seasons?
07:34Yes, there are always moments when you have dropped them and that certainly has been one of those.
07:40At home, we know the form that we need and the amount of games that we have to win to reach the target that we have.
07:46Tomorrow is going to be a key match for us.
07:49Thank you, best of luck.
07:51Ian talks more.
07:52Hi Mikel, how are you?
07:53Hi Ian.
07:54Going back to the 300 games, I was at Nottingham Forest last night, the manager said six games
08:00and already some of the crowd are saying we won't be sat because you're not winning matches.
08:04300 games in five years, you are bucking the trend in terms of football management in this country, how are you doing?
08:11Well, again, I feel very privileged and I'm really enjoying what I do with the people that I do it.
08:18And we know that our job is about winning a lot of football matches if you want to stay in the job.
08:24And the other one is while we are doing this, make sure as well that we enjoy our profession
08:29because it's got, in my opinion, some of the most beautiful things that you can experience in life.
08:35And trying to do both things at the same time.
08:38You've massively changed the culture, though, since you came here.
08:41I mean, you only have to look at the Kaisaka's two under the Premier League game tomorrow,
08:45you've got Manieri, you've got Max Downing, you've got Mardiskeli, you've got Academy players,
08:50you've got some of the best players from around Europe now playing for you.
08:53And they're all at a good young age.
08:55How difficult has that been in five years to change that culture?
08:59Well, you see, the rotation in the squad has been phenomenal.
09:03But at the end you get to where you get.
09:05Thanks to everybody that has been in the journey.
09:08And some people, they've been for six months, some others for three years,
09:11some others for 18 months, but they've all been capital and very important.
09:15Sometimes to help the team, sometimes as well to learn the direction that you have to take in
09:21and what is the moment as well to change and re-evaluate the things that you are doing.
09:26And very grateful for everybody that has been part of this journey because they've all been very important.
09:32You said you want to win trophies for the next 300 games to be a success.
09:37Do you need to be a bit more lucky as a manager or a bit better as a manager?
09:41Because I remember Sven and Ericsson were saying,
09:43better to be a lucky manager than a good manager.
09:46Well, probably you need a bit of both in many senses,
09:49because with the amount of points that we have generated of the win rate that you just discussed,
09:53all the managers have won titles, big titles.
09:56We have won titles, but we won the biggest ones.
09:58And that's it.
09:59Sometimes in sports you have to congratulate somebody else who has been even better than you.
10:04You can be really, really good or excellent, but somebody has been extraordinary.
10:08And this league is the level that demands, but certainly we're going to try to get to that.
10:15And finally, you'll be facing Nuno Espirito Santo tomorrow.
10:18A couple of weeks ago it had been Graham Potter.
10:20Man, I know you know well and rate it highly.
10:23Again, do you feel sorry for Graham what's happened this year?
10:28How different is the challenge facing Luna?
10:31Yeah, a little word for Graham because I think he's an exceptional manager
10:35and he's done that in various contexts in his career for a long, long, long time.
10:41And then as a man and just talking to a lot of players and people that have had the joy to work with him,
10:48the way they describe him and the time that they have together.
10:51So, yeah, sad to see him go, especially with some of the things that happened in social media
10:59and a lot of things that I think, in my opinion, to have the best league in the world,
11:03we have to improve because we have to have the best league in the world,
11:06we have to make sure that the people that are so important in our league,
11:09they're taking care in the right way.
11:12And I think all as a whole, I think we can do better on that
11:16and hopefully we can learn from that.
11:18And there with Nuno, yeah, another top manager that we played a few weeks ago here
11:24against him with a different team and a top coach as well with a lot of experience
11:29and a really difficult game ahead. Thank you.
11:32Simon Standard.
11:34You've made a big push on contracts over the past six months,
11:38tying players down.
11:40Eurintin was the latest to be reported in talks.
11:43Is that a perfect example of what you speak about,
11:45where players deserve to be rewarded for their performance on the pitch?
11:48Because his form, particularly in the start of the season, has been so good.
11:51Yes, 100 per cent and especially the players that they want to be with us
11:57and we want to attach our futures with them.
12:00Eurintin is a really good example of someone that,
12:02especially under very difficult circumstances,
12:06with a very early injury in his career,
12:09with a really difficult injury,
12:11the way he's come back and what he's doing for the team,
12:13it's phenomenal and I think it's a really good example of another one
12:16that hopefully is going to have a long career with us.
12:20And just on Victor and Martin,
12:22they haven't been able to play together very much,
12:24but we saw on Wednesday that connection,
12:26which sometimes players have,
12:27you know, with Vakaio and Martin,
12:29you think years ago,
12:30sort of period as an honorary.
12:31Have they got an understanding
12:32that you've seen in these first few months
12:34that they know what each other wants and how to play together?
12:37Well, as you say,
12:38we haven't seen enough for different circumstances,
12:40especially because Martin hasn't been a much available decision
12:43for different reasons,
12:45but yeah, there is something as well.
12:47They have that personal chemistry
12:49and hopefully with more time on the pitch
12:51and more understanding,
12:52that will flourish as well.
12:54James, Athletic.
12:56Hi.
12:57I'm Martin,
12:58obviously he had a great game against Olympiacos
13:00and I was struck afterwards at the press conference
13:02you spoke about how you give him the freedom
13:04to do that creative job.
13:06I just wondered that as a manager,
13:08when you have a sort of clear tactical model and identity,
13:12how do you find the space for the individual freedom within that?
13:17Well, I think the other way around.
13:18I think you have to create a system and a structure
13:21around the qualities of the players.
13:23And with our attacking players especially,
13:26we try to do that.
13:27Even with our defenders,
13:28we know certain qualities that we have in that defensive line
13:31and we will pick certain ways to press or certain ways to defend
13:35or force people in relation to where they want to end.
13:38And with Martin,
13:39it's very clear that we want the ball in certain areas with him
13:42because when he is able to do that,
13:43he is a real threat.
13:45We saw again on the second goal,
13:46you know,
13:47Bukayo scores from the left channel rather than the right.
13:50Is that part of a tactical design
13:52or is that a case of you empowering players
13:54to make those calls at the moment on the pitch?
13:57Well, the one with Bukayo,
13:58we decided in the last few minutes to change sides
14:00for two different reasons
14:02and because of him on a natural foot in that side,
14:06especially against teams that are constantly pushing their full-backs
14:09and the space is wide,
14:10is a real threat.
14:12For you, is he the most underrated player in the Premier League at the moment?
14:23I don't know because I rate him a lot,
14:25so I don't know how people rate him hopefully a lot
14:28because when you talk about a total player,
14:32he has almost every quality that you want from a defender.
14:38I've been racking my brains a bit about how to word this question.
14:41There seems to be a lot of talk about how many minutes Ethan and Maia was getting in particular
14:46and over the last five years the score has developed and got stronger.
14:50Have we got to a point now where the minutes that they're getting
14:53are probably what's expected for a player of that age in a team as competitive as Arsenal?
14:57I don't know, but I don't work with expectations.
15:00I work with what the boys can provide in the context that the team is playing in that moment.
15:08Ethan has played two games in the Premier League very early because of an injury of Martin as well.
15:13He played in other competitions and he will play more.
15:16With Miles it's the same, but sometimes it's form,
15:18sometimes it's the fact that we want to do certain things in relation to the opposition.
15:23And that's it.
15:24What I want is that they are in the state that they only have to be used.
15:27And when they are playing, whether it is to start games or for a few minutes,
15:30they are fully ready.
15:32And both of them, they've been really good at that.
15:34OK, finally, that's live from Benjamin.
15:36I have a good idea, right?
15:38Seeing that Sakai, Rice and Ezeb on the bench on Wednesday,
15:41do you think moving forward should we get used to seeing them on the bench?
15:47Or your big stars on the bench?
15:49Do you think we should get used to that?
15:51Well, I mean, with the schedule that we have,
15:54we have to play Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday.
15:57So the last time we played three games in seven days is a while ago.
16:00Some of the players haven't played, ever, three games in seven days.
16:04So we need to manage that because they come from a period of a lot of load.
16:09We had two very, very high games.
16:11So if the schedule continues to that and they don't give us an extra day,
16:15we're going to have to do that, yeah.
16:17And seeing now you've got a very strong bench on there,
16:19very strong Sunday 11,
16:21could this be the year where it clicks now?
16:23Well, I think it's been clicking for a while.
16:26It clicks means to win it, then hopefully it is the year.
16:29That's so easy, yeah, yeah.
