'Stop holding temper tantrums,' Republicans tell Democrats on day two of shutdown

Republicans and Democrats continued to trade barbs and point fingers at each other amid a funding impasse that brought the federal government to a standstill with no end in sight. The shutdown, the 15th since 1981, has suspended scientific research, , economic data reports, and a wide range of other activities. Major benefit programs, like Social Security, will continue to send out payments.

00:00Well welcome everybody to day two of the Democrats shutdown. Let's make absolutely clear what's happening here. Real pain is being inflicted upon the American people because 44 Democrats in the Senate have voted for the third time to reject the completely nonpartisan, completely clean, very simple 24 page continuing resolution that we passed in the House here two weeks ago.
00:25They have made a decision that they would rather give taxpayer funded benefits to illegal aliens than to keep the doors open for the American people to keep vital services, veteran services, healthcare and nutrition for women, infants and children. They would rather not pay the troops and TSA agents and border patrol agents. They would rather stop services of FEMA in the middle of a hurricane season than to do the right thing for partisan political purposes.
00:54It is selfish, it is reprehensible and it is exactly the opposite of what they have all said themselves in their own words very passionately every day until now.
01:04Businesses do this all the time. A small business whether it's good times or bad has to sit down and figure out how to make the budget work.
01:12Washington needs to do the same thing and that means House Democrats and Senate Democrats need to stop holding temper tantrums, stop making trillion and a half dollar demands for illegal alien funding and vote to open up the government, release the hostages and let's go get back to a negotiation over what the priorities of this country really should be.
01:33Get to work, do the people's business and let's get on with it. Thank you all so much.
