Thousands of Israelis rally in Tel Aviv ahead of the elections

Thousands of Israelis rallied in Tel Aviv on Saturday (October 24) demanding an independent commission of inquiry into the failures surrounding the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack, three days before a national election.

The rally at Hostages Square was organised by the October Council, a group representing families and friends of victims and survivors of the attack.

Opposition leaders attended the rally.

Protesters voiced their concern on the same government that was in power during October 7, 2023 attacks, will run again in the upcoming elections.

Demonstrators called for political change, voicing frustration with the government's policies and demanding accountability from its leaders, yelling "shame" during the rally.

The October 7 attack, which killed about 1,200 people and saw 251 taken hostage, according to Israeli figures, shook the country and has continued to fuel demands for accountability.

The election on October 27 will be the first since the attack, which triggered Israel's war in Gaza and broader regional conflict. Polls have indicated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is on course to lose the election, although Israel's fragmented political system leaves the outcome uncertain.

00:00I
00:30So, we've been through October 7th. I personally have two friends that have fallen since, and as much as I
00:42have people I know who died from these events, every other person has these kinds of persons because it's so
00:51common.
00:52It's insane, and the fact that the people who are responsible for it, that the government that is responsible for
00:59it, are even running again is insane.
01:03They should have been gone, like, the day after. We are very scared. We're very eager to replace them. People
01:13are coming from all over the world in extreme numbers, and we really hope.
01:19If we can't replace them now, the country is lost.
01:31Are you hopeful?
01:32Very hopeful. Very hopeful. That's why I'm here. I came from New York.
01:49So, I will be proud of them.
01:53I will be proud of them.
