Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd (PRIDE), a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, has partnered with United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (UOB Malaysia) to rebrand the Bandaraya LRT Station as Bandaraya-UOB LRT Station under its station naming rights programme.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative reflects how private sector participation can strengthen Malaysia's public transport ecosystem while diversifying revenue streams for Prasarana.

00:00Three, two, one, let's go!
00:03Station berikutnya, Bandaraya UOB
00:07Today's event is not just about naming a station,
00:15it is about forging a partnership that uplifts our city
00:19and enhances the daily life of Malaysians.
00:23I would like to commend UOB Malaysia for supporting the government's station immigrants program.
00:28This initiative has amplifies how the private sector can contribute meaningfully to national development.
00:35Our collaboration with the bank, which began in 2022,
00:39demonstrates a successful public-private partnership built on shared goals in sustainability, transport and economic growth.
00:47Today's milestone is testament to the bank's continued dedication to enriching urban life through meaningful and creative partnership.
00:55I remember back in February, during my third time in UOB's Chinese New Year annual reunion gathering, dinner,
01:06I made it public to invite UOB to name this particular station after UOB.
01:12I know that they have participated in our advertising program, in wrapping the trains.
01:20But I say, that is short of one thing, that is to name after the station,
01:25because that would give you an entire better value, of course there's better revenue for Pasarana too.
01:29So I give, maybe, particularly, I mean, almost no choice, but a tuver.
01:37Except that, because I make it public in front of more than 1,000 people.
01:40And I even sounded that announcement, to be curfew, using the ideas,
01:48the next station, Bandaraya UOB.
01:52Right? Remember that?
01:53I make that announcement, or that sound, during the speech.
01:59So, but, I share with Mr. B,
02:01this is a very, very valuable investment and partnership.
02:05because in the entire Kuala Lumpur, there is only one station by the name of Bandaraya.
02:12I share with Mr. B, Bandaraya means, in Malay, means, city.
02:16So, when we have Bandaraya UOB,
02:19that means, in English translation, it means,
02:21UOB's city station.
02:24So, we have,
02:25because we have all our network,
02:31MRT, LRT, Monorail,
02:33there's only one station called Bandaraya.
02:34There's no second station called Bandaraya.
02:37There's only one, and it's taken up by UOB.
02:40So, congrats.
02:42And I hope that this also gives a lot of good value for both Prasarana and UOB.
02:48And of course, for Prasarana, this is an important initiative.
02:52I've pushed our team in Prasarana,
02:54that we have to be thinking out of the box.
02:57We have to be more creative in raising revenue.
03:01We know that public transport is not a profit-making venture.
03:07Public transport is prepared by the government
03:10for the benefits of the people to make mobility easier.
03:14And it's a very important part of our city life.
03:17But the government is subsidizing heavily,
03:20and we're spending billions of money
03:22just to build our public infrastructure
03:24and also our public transport system.
03:27But at the same time, we need to be sustainable.
03:30We need to be financially sound
03:33so that we have to think about how do we create more revenue
03:37besides our Fairbox revenue.
03:42We know that we cannot increase the Fed for the public.
03:46We make it very affordable to Malaysians.
03:48But we have to be creative of how to raise more money,
03:51raise more funds, raise more revenue
03:53from other sources such as branding of station, advertising, and so forth.
04:00So this is where we are today.
04:02And I'm very, very pleased
04:03that UOB has taken up that initiative
04:07and also to accept my invitation
04:10to take part in this NEMIC REST program.
04:13And I must commend the team
04:15that they will work on rocket speed
04:18just February until now.
04:21That's been probably seven, eight months.
04:24And we are here.
04:24We can review it.
04:25We can launch it.
04:27Even though it looks simple,
04:29but it's actually not so simple
04:31for Prasarana.
04:34Of course, at the corporate level,
04:35you need the approval, budget, funding,
04:39and approval from your boss.
04:40But on our side,
04:41the operational part of it
04:42is not that simple.
04:44The moment you say,
04:46yes, we want to adopt this,
04:48we need to change the entire public announcement.
04:52We need to change all our signbox,
04:55not only at the station,
04:57but at every station.
04:58Because you have to add the word UOB
05:01at every station.
05:03So it's not a very simple process,
05:06but they work very, very closely together.
05:09And I'm very pleased that we call it time
05:10very, very quickly.
