Ted Karras on Bengals' Struggles on Offense, Week 5 Matchup With Detroit Lions
Transcript
00:00I don't think we have a here we go again I can only speak for myself but I'm I'm worried about
00:04what I got to do in the next play and we had a good group in Denver credit to them two week two
00:09weeks in a row toughies so um got to do something to score some points. As a captain are you kind
00:16of looking around at practice just making sure everybody is where they need to be or is that
00:20never a concern that attention and energy is there? You know one thing about me is you know
00:26with stuff like this you can never break my spirit trying to lead this team with energy and
00:30spirit and we got a football game Sunday afternoon to be ready for it's our job to be ready for it and
00:35we're going to be ready so um you know I think again we've we've had good practices I think
00:40in the moment we've let these games get away from us and it's uh it's it's a damn shame really because
00:47you know we're doing some good things but it's corny to point out the good things when you're
00:51getting uh you know really letting games get away from you so um we all feel that and um really my
00:59biggest role is to just bring the energy every single day and be ready to go help help these men
01:03be ready to go. It seems like every week there's a tough front this week no different Aiden Hutchinson
01:09obviously you're facing DJ Reader I mean they got a lot of dudes in the trenches. They do um DJ Reader
01:15what a great man great teammate great player um still playing really high ball high level ball um you
01:21know they're a good team we got a good football team coming into town Sunday afternoon so we gotta
01:25be at our best. We got rookies starting on either side now these guys seem like they're made of the
01:30right stuff but it's a challenge how difficult is it for the entire unit to have two guys with so
01:35little experience? You know I think they've been doing a great job and you want to point out some
01:40positives I think we have two ascending guards that hopefully are the guard duo here you know with
01:45the program's health for the better part of a decade so really proud of those guys um you know
01:51we had a really tough draw up in Denver and I thought we shut them down pretty solidly but
01:56obviously not enough to score any points or really do anything to affect the box score so a lot still
02:03to work on but you know we're out here we're ready to go and getting getting ready and we got the
02:07Detroit Lions now. The average four yards to carry next week was it a step in the right direction?
02:13I think so I mean we ran 52 plays though so I mean what are you gonna say I mean there are positives
02:18to build off of but I don't want to be overly corny about that we got to do whatever we can to put
02:23points on the board three points we'll win you zero games in the National Football League. So what's
02:28what's the key like what has everything like what what has to change? I think we got to convert
02:33their downs I think we got to eliminate pre-snap penalties play ahead of the sticks and punch it in
02:39the red zone and it's just all individual execution working together as a unit as position groups and
02:44as an offensive team so we're you know no one's hanging their head we're getting it from all
02:49angles guys we hear you um and that is what it is and we deserve that but no one like I said earlier
02:55you can't break my spirit you're not going to break this team spirit and we're going to come out
02:59and be ready for a football game Sunday 4 p.m. How much in the run game are you guys tinkering every
03:04week right now versus just let's just do what we do better is that is there or is it a combination?
03:09I think it's always a combination in the NFL I think there's obviously stuff you got to scheme up
03:13per team and personnel wise team wise scheme wise but obviously we have our stalwarts that we always
03:19carry um you know I you know I I don't think we're ever going to be the highest volume run team
03:25in the world but when we do get the chances to run the ball we need to be effective we need to be
03:31efficient and we need to execute with physicality and you know try to try to let Chase Brown get
03:35get Chase Brown loose a little bit. I think one of the underrated skills of Joe Burrow is is this
03:41cadence that does Jake have that in him and how big of an advantage is it being at home both in pass
03:46pro and in firing off in the in the run game? I think um it affects more in pass I think that's the
03:52uh that is the you know highest trait of home field advantage is the silent count on the road for the
04:01home team for the defensive ends especially um so I mean you know two weeks on the road two toughies
04:08on the road glad to be back home we're in the jungle let's go beat the Lions
