00:00I want to start with what got you onto the race in the first place, because, Angela, I mean, we, in the many forms of research that were done during your time in the house last year, found out that you had applied to the Amazing Race before, I believe, with your son, and correct me if I'm wrong.
00:14So what was your reaction to getting the opportunity to actually race? And then what made you decide Lexi would be your partner?
00:21Okay, crazy thing is, you know, my producer gave me a call that the one that said gave me those first yeses for Big Brother. And he's like, Hey, what do you think? Is that is that something you'd be interested in? And feel free to say no. And I was like, Are you kidding me? An opportunity to do another CBS show? Say no more. Like, I'm going I want to. And I have tried. I am a huge fan of all three nighttime shows on CBS, Survivor, Big Brother,
00:51and the Amazing Race. So this was an opportunity I was not going to pass up. As far as choosing Lexi, I mean, my producer kind of was like, he likes the blonde Megan Fox daughter. So I was like, Okay, I know which one that is. I have three daughters and a son. So I've got four kids. And honestly, it couldn't have been a better partner for me. She couldn't have been a better partner for me.
01:15Yeah, my brother's a really strong contender. Okay, I wouldn't give myself that much credit. But I think we kept each other sanity. Yeah, we did. Lexi's kind of my ride or die out of my children.
01:27You're my girl, girl, girl, I call her since she's a baby. So I think it was very fitting. And it was it was a lot of fun to do that with her.
01:35Well, I'm curious, Lexi, you mentioned at one point in the premiere about how you sort of perceive your relationship as less mother daughter, more so friends. How did that dynamic translate to teammates? Did you find yourself falling back into those roles? Once you know the rubber hit the road?
01:49Um, I think I still, regardless of the day, you're always my mother, always the mother. But friendship wise, I feel very close to my mom, sometimes a little too close.
02:01I know things I shouldn't. You know, I can't help it. And I feel but in those moments when I wanted to prove to her, like, I'm capable, I got this. I still wanted her to be so proud of me as like a motherly figure.
02:14I wanted you, you know, I you gave me so many words of affirmation throughout the whole race of I'm proud of you, you go girl. And I was like, that's my mom, you know, um, but yeah, still still such a strong friendship. Um, yeah.
02:29Well, let's fast forward to the last leg here. Now, I know that you and your entire cast said we only got a peek at the train drama, because it was a lot. What do you think is like the one or few things that was most crucial to what happened that we missed by watching all the chaos unfold?
02:49Oh, my God. Um, okay, it's freezing cold. All I have is that then we both had that thin puffer and puffers. We're dead tired. It's been 24 hours since we had slept during that halfway point.
03:04Um, and we thought we were getting there. Cause the, he said, you guys will be getting there when the first teams arrived. We're like, yes, let's go. That train that there was the advantage disappeared. It just was gone nowhere. Oh, oh, sorry. We're not showing up to pick you guys up. You guys aren't getting to Prague. No, no, no. You guys are spending the night now in a cold Frankfurt or in that train station.
03:33Oh my gosh. And so now we're exhausted. We haven't slept a blink. Um, and we took like eight different trains to even get to Prague from Frankfurt. Once we finally got a new ticket. And so once we arrived in Prague, it was mentally so exhausting and everything was on foot. Everything, everything was on foot. So that I think was extremely draining for me because tell me why we packed backpacks. There were 16 pounds a piece.
04:01What were we thinking? I mean, why, why did you pack backpacks that were 16 pounds a piece?
04:08I don't know. When you see other teams, they only had one bag between them.
04:12Well, I have, you know, makeup and hair products and I, I just wouldn't have to part with anything. I mean, we both knew our bags were super heavy, but we were like taking things out. And I was like, I can't part with any of this. If we keep going the distance, I'm going to need this stuff.
04:28I think when I was emptying out my bag one night, all I got rid of was like a pair of socks. Cause I didn't want to wash them.
04:34Well, what's so interesting is that, you know, when you finish the detour and you sort of realize like it's the two of you and then Matt and Megan, Angela, you start getting emotional.
04:43Maybe part of that is because you realize like, Oh, if it is a foot race, like this might be a little tougher considering how exhausted you were.
04:49I know you had also said that you two teams were working together on that. Talk to me a bit more about that. Cause you could say on the one hand that helps.
04:56On the other hand, if you're fighting for last place, you know, do you want to work with the competition?
05:01Well, here's the thing we were fighting along the side of Matt and Megan and we were with them on the last two, um, challenge things in that leg where we had to go run to go get the clue, run to go do the competition, um, where we had to recite the names on the back of those chairs.
05:17And so we decided they would take half. We would take half and, and we did work together and we worked together well. And I just found like we, this is something we needed to do.
05:27I didn't think further outside of that, that it was going to be a foot race because you never know what the next thing is. It could have been a clue with a taxi. They could have gotten lost. We could have gotten lost.
05:37It really was anybody's game in our heads at that point. But when we realized when we've got, got the last clue that now we have to somehow separate ourselves because we are running for, you know, our place in this game, um, on a foot race with these two.
05:52And it got really emotional. Like, of course they can't fit everything into an hour long episode, but during those train rides and the subways and just going through literally the trenches, we so bonded.
06:06We bonded a lot with them and they are such genuine people. So when it was us two at the end, knowing that only one of us gets to be saved, they were up about 20, 30 feet in front of us as we were on our way to the mat to see Phil and Matt and Megan kept looking behind and saying, are you okay, Angela? Are you okay? It had been a long 48 hours. And I was like, I'm fine. Go, go. And they, they, they needed to go.
06:35I mean, we were fighting for a race here. And so I didn't want to hold them back, but they definitely have hearts of gold. And I think that when we finally did approach the mat and we were there, we were both hoping that Phil would say, this is a non-elimination leg and you ladies are safe, but no luck there.
06:52Overall, I think our bond with Megan and Matt was truly something we'll take away from this race, along with a couple other people too.
07:00Well, yeah. Talk to me more about that. I mean, let's say you did proceed. If Phil said those magic words, that it was a non-elimination leg, were there teams that you were looking to work with in particular based on the bonds you had made or otherwise?
07:11Absolutely. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. I mean, Kat and Alex, they're so funny. They gave a lot of comedic relief throughout this whole series.
07:21It helps. I'm telling you, it helps. If you're laughing through pain, like she's saying, oh my gosh, really lost in your head on the race. You know, you're in constant fight or flight mode. And to have them be there. I mean, they didn't show half the funny stuff they were saying.
07:37And there's no way they could fit it all in, but there's no way definitely be with them. And even Kylan and Taylor, like we all like, I would have loved to have kept working along the side of this group that we were with overnight. Like they were amazing. I think we all just had fun together. Even though we were stressed, you do get in your head a little bit working with other teams though, because we all know only one team can win.
08:02Yeah. And you know, you can't always trust everybody, but those people that we were with that towards the end, we felt like they were so trustworthy and genuine and we were able to keep continuing on the race. Those were the people that we would have trusted and wanted to work with. Yes.
08:17No, that's interesting. Yeah. Because I mean, obviously you all come in with three other teams from Angela season, but as Tucker expresses in episode one, you know, there might have been some bad blood. Did you anticipate that perception? Did you get the feeling that you wouldn't be able to necessarily make a season 26 reunion happen if you continued on the race?
08:37Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. Tucker loves this girl. And if we were in a situation where I needed something or he needed something, there would be nothing I wouldn't do for him. And I feel in my heart, the same of him towards me. I think there was a little spice, a little fun. When we first met Phil about, you know, big brother and one U-turn.
08:58Yeah, that's, you know what? That's all in fun, honestly. And both Tucker and I are playful that way. I didn't take any, I didn't take any offense to it at all.
09:09A little playful competition never hurts. It never hurts anybody.
09:12Even though there was no competition at all.
09:14Not really.
09:18I mean, he and Eric are in powerhouses. Yes, they are. Oh my gosh.
09:23You should have seen the look on Lexi and I's face when we looked around and saw who we were up against.
09:30And we were like, oh, oh, oh, oh my God, what a 30-year-old's a fireman. Okay.
09:36All right.
09:37And it was Chelsea's dad and myself that were the oldest on, on the teams.
09:41And so I was like, maybe I have a fighting chance, but he's a fireman. Come on.
09:47Come on.
09:48We thought Enzo and his brother were going to take it home.
09:51We thought they were going to have this whole thing.
09:53Really?
09:54Seriously, yes.
09:55They're so fit and athletic.
09:57Oh my God.
09:57And they're so determined.
09:59You know, we really did think that they were, we felt when we first saw all the teams, they were the team to be.
10:06Well, I'm curious because again, as you spoke about your dynamic got to be viewed in a very different light in the course of a very interesting, like 72 hour period.
10:15I would love to hear from each of you, what's the thing you learned the most about the other person racing around Europe together?
10:22Lexi, let's start with you.
10:23Okay.
10:25I think your determination.
10:28You did things on the race that I didn't even know you were capable of.
10:34Your stamina, your sleep deprivation, you got through it all.
10:38Um, and I'm very proud of you because I know how challenging even that was for me.
10:43And so my 51 year old mother doing it right alongside me, like it just blew my mind.
10:48You are so impressive.
10:50And you are a strong, bad-ass woman.
10:53Oh my God.
10:54It was, that was really impressive for me.
10:57And one of the highlights that I got to see with my mom.
11:00Angela.
11:00Okay.
11:01Honestly, for me, I, I, and like she said earlier on, you'll see it on promos.
11:10I am a helicopter parent pretty much.
11:12Um, I do protect and covet my children, especially Lexi.
11:16She's the baby.
11:17Lexi moved to Las Vegas two years ago from Utah.
11:20I mean, of all the states she could have moved to, she moved to since fricking city.
11:24And I'm like, Oh, so I worry a lot about her and I'm always checking on her and I do have
11:29the air tag in her car and I do know where her phone is.
11:32So I'm very protective.
11:34Okay.
11:34I still haven't even found the air tag.
11:36I tried to look.
11:37She never will.
11:38But here's the thing on the race.
11:41I quickly learned that Lexi does have, I mean, I always knew it, but she's got a great head
11:47on her shoulders and she was strong for the both of us during so many moments on this race.
11:53And I know we were only there for two legs, but it seemed like a long time.
11:57It seemed almost eternal.
11:58It was a very long, a long two legs.
12:01And I just love that she kept picking us back up and saying, we got this.
12:05The words of encouragement that she gave to me, um, bar, bar none were the best.
12:10And I just know that, you know, going, I knew going into the race, I was going to have to
12:14rely on her.
12:15We were teammates after all.
12:16And she was a great teammate and I did go and follow the choices that she made that led
12:22us to the best decision possible.
12:24So for that, I know, um, I'm grateful to her for that, that we made it past leg one and
12:30on to leg two.
12:31And, uh, she can handle her own business.
12:33She's got street smart.
12:34She's wise.
12:34She's strong.
12:35I learned it from the best.
12:36I, I honestly, I don't worry about her quite so much any longer.
12:40So there's a lot of growth there.
12:41Now I'm curious, Lexi, this was technically your reality TV debut.
12:48Is this, I mean, like, not, not certainly our first time on screen, uh, but certainly,
12:53you know, from that capacity, do you want to, do you want to do more of it?
13:00Yeah.
13:01I mean, I got a little taste of it.
13:03Um, I think it's really fun and exciting and I love all these different personalities
13:08being thrown together.
13:10Um, I thrive in it.
13:12I love it.
13:13I think not everybody can get in front of a camera and be themselves.
13:18It's, it's something that you either can do or you can't do, um, or you can learn it.
13:23But I think for Lexi and myself, it's just something that comes natural.
13:26We don't know why that is.
13:28I think it's just, I have no problem.
13:29Growing up, you're like this and you taught me to be this way.
13:32Don't care what other people think and shoot from the hip and live your life, your life.
13:37You only get one life on this earth.
13:39You don't need to be performative.
13:40You don't need to worry about what people are thinking.
13:42You don't need to worry about these cameras and you just gotta just do the damn thing.
13:47You know what I'm saying?
13:48Yeah.
13:48I mean, I guess the question as well on the other side is Angela, are you going to be
13:52doing more of the damn things?
13:54I know that, you know, when you did your exit press last year, you had said that you always
13:57want to do all of these other shows.
13:59Now that you've done your second, are there any specific ones that you're looking to add
14:02to the resume now?
14:05Definitely Survivor, Traders.
14:08I've got my eye on both of those.
14:10I'd love an invitation to do that.
14:13Jeff has never seen an Angela on that island like me.
14:16And I would have so much fun.
14:20I'd light that island on fire.
14:22Okay.
14:22I would have so much fun.
14:2430 days.
14:26I did 73 days in the house with a bunch of strangers.
14:30And there was never downtime on an island.
14:32I can go swim.
14:33I can be free.
14:34I can do my thing.
14:35And I am the queen of false realities.
14:37After all, I can definitely set and plant seeds in people's brains.
14:40I would have the most fun.
14:42There we go.
14:42Well, let's hope this planted a seed in CBS and we can have this grow to fruition later
14:47on.
14:47I mean, I loved getting the chance to talk with the two of you.
14:50Again, this is what the season is all about, right?
14:52It's getting to see a dynamic that we had not seen just from seeing Angela solely in the
14:56house, but getting to get a peek into what your relationship is, albeit in a very different
15:00environment, was so awesome.
15:01And especially, I think, getting to leave, as you mentioned before, with such a greater appreciation
15:04for each other.
15:05I mean, that's the million dollars is just sort of the icing on the cake from that capacity.
15:10And so you've had most of the cake for what it's worth, from like a relationship perspective
15:14and emotional perspective.
15:15And thank you so much for being so open about that with me today.
15:19Thank you so much for having us.
15:20Such an honor.
15:21Of course.
15:21Well, all the best to you and yours and the rest of the family.
15:24Thank you both so much again and have a great day.
15:26You too.
15:27Bye.
15:28Bye.
