00:00The Eiffel Tower was closed to visitors, part of strike action across France against plans to make 44 billion euros of cuts.
00:09Prime Minister Le Corneau, in the job since early September, is already under pressure over the budget crisis.
00:15France 24's Clovis Casali is following this one.
00:21All the major unions had called for this nationwide strike,
00:26and thousands on the streets of Paris today demonstrating against the planned cuts by the French government.
00:34We saw teachers, health and transport workers here calling for the government to stop what they say is austerity.
00:43They said also that there need to be more taxes on the rich parts of society here in France.
00:50This demonstration in Paris was a way to put pressure on the French government.
00:54With the new government of Sébastien Le Corneau set to be announced before Sunday,
00:59and then next week he should be unveiling the new French prime minister,
01:04the government's economic policies, and of course this much expected budget.
01:09And I can tell you that all demonstrators here want an end to cuts in the public sector.
