In many cases, adoptees later discovered their records had been falsified to make them appear abandoned, when in reality they had been taken or even stolen. This week, President Lee Jae-myung issued a public apology for the government’s role, writing on Facebook that he wanted to offer a “heartfelt apology and words of comfort.”
