00:00Have you ever seen thousands of people tossing the lotus flower into the air at once?
00:12Welcome to Rabboa, Thailand's unique lotus drawing festival in Bang Pri, Samut Prakan.
00:18This centuries-old tradition began with kindness. Long ago,
00:21Mon people from Prappadang traveled here during Buddhist Lent to collect lotus flowers for monks.
00:26The Bang Pri villagers, seeing that the journey was long, gathered the flowers for them.
00:31What started hand-to-hand soon turned into something joyful as people began drawing the lotuses in state.
00:38Today, locals gather by the Samron Canal to honor Luang Potto,
00:42a sacred Buddha image that is floated on the boat.
00:45And many believe if your lotus lands on the boat, your witches will come too.
00:50Mark your calendar, this year's Rabboa runs from October 3rd to 6th at Bang Pri district office
