00:00I've been renting for my whole life.
00:02You know, I want to have a legacy to, you know, pass down to my girls.
00:05For single mom Lace, home ownership always felt like a fantasy.
00:09This is for them.
00:10Now with the help of the entire community.
00:12It's a little bit cold, but you guys are bringing the warm welcome by volunteering.
00:16Her wish will finally be granted.
00:18When I first got approved for Habitat, it was very emotional.
00:21Words cannot even describe how proud I am of her.
00:25She's the best mom.
00:27But all fairytales have a few twists and turns.
00:30I mean, it's not really what I was envisioning.
00:32I'm struggling a little bit.
00:34I hate going backwards in the construction process.
00:37Before that happily ever after.
00:39It's all yours.
00:40I absolutely love it.
00:43Oh man, Brian, this is looking good so far.
00:46Yeah!
00:47Mika and I build custom homes on fast timelines.
00:50We don't want to carry two mortgages for too long.
00:53Time is money.
00:54We're proof that construction and marriage can mix.
00:58Give me a sweaty hug.
00:59We're still doing new construction.
01:01You ready to break some ground?
01:03But now we're taking bigger risks.
01:06Look at all that black mold behind that wall.
01:08I think we're going to do a shipping container house.
01:11Let's go!
01:12Making bolder decisions.
01:13Put your arm up here.
01:16We've never put it in any other house.
01:18And always racing the clock.
01:20I can't believe they're going to be living inside of this in less than 100 days.
01:24This is amazing.
01:32I'm glad to be back in St. Pete.
01:34Absolutely. St. Pete is so beautiful.
01:36You're pretty much on an island, water, beautiful sights everywhere.
01:39So far, what we've learned about Lace, okay, she's lived in the St. Pete community for several years.
01:44Single mom, raising two girls.
01:46Yep.
01:47And she's been renting, I think her current place, she's been in there for seven or eight years paying rent.
01:51So I'm sure she's ready to have something she can call her own.
01:55We know that she has a very supportive company she works for.
01:58In fact, they donated this land where she's going to build her dream home.
02:02This is a unique project that we are so excited to collaboratively build with Habitat for Humanity.
02:08Habitat builds affordable homes for people with the help of volunteers and financial support.
02:13Hey, so I actually first got involved with Habitat for Humanity way back in college.
02:17We went on these trips called Alternative Spring Break.
02:19Oh, man.
02:20And that's how we got hammered during spring break back in college.
02:23Oh, gosh.
02:24The jokes have already started. We haven't even arrived.
02:27Also, I think that's where I first fell in love with new construction.
02:31And now the fact that we're partnering with them, I just, I don't know.
02:34This build's going to be extra special.
02:36Here it is.
02:37Oh, I think that's her.
02:38Is that her?
02:39Aw.
02:40I'm so excited for her.
02:41Heck yeah. Let's do it.
02:42Oh, there she is.
02:44Hello.
02:45How's it going, ladies?
02:46Hi.
02:47How are you guys?
02:48You already look like you're at home.
02:49Yeah, this is it.
02:50This is great.
02:51Future location of the dream home.
02:53So tell us a little bit about how did this get started for you working with Habitat.
02:57I've been a single mom raising my girls for about 10 years now.
03:01My oldest daughter, Liana, is 19.
03:04And my youngest, Kaylin, is 17.
03:06I've been renting, you know, for my whole life.
03:10I'm ready to be a homeowner.
03:11And a family member told me I should apply.
03:14The process has taken about a year to get to this point.
03:17The day I got approved was very, very emotional.
03:22It's kind of surreal, you know, it's almost too good to be true.
03:32I've worked really hard for this.
03:35And to finally have someone believe in me, there's no words for that.
03:41Sorry.
03:43This is for them.
03:47I have a legacy to, you know, pass down to my girls.
03:50That's beautiful.
03:51Can you give us some insight on things that are not working for you in your current home?
03:54Oh, man.
03:56We have a three bedroom, you could call it.
03:59And my daughter has to come into my bedroom to get into her bedroom.
04:03And the exit into the backyard is in her room.
04:06And so, you know, just the privacy there.
04:08So it sounds like functionality-wise, it's not really working.
04:11Exactly.
04:12There has always been leaking issues.
04:15It affects me financially.
04:16I've had a $1,400 water bill in just one month.
04:20Wow.
04:21Whoa.
04:22That's like flushing money down the toilet, literally.
04:23Yeah.
04:24Absolutely.
04:25When I moved there, the carpet that we had in the bedroom, they weren't new.
04:27And without the landlord wanting to replace it, I did it myself.
04:31Yes.
04:32Instead of doing all these repairs and making things nice on a rental that is not permanently yours.
04:36Absolutely.
04:37Everything you do and put into this home, you're going to get that value back.
04:41Do you have any thoughts on like how many bedrooms or like how you want the flow of the house to be?
04:45So definitely a three bedroom, two bath.
04:48We currently have one very, very small bathroom.
04:50So three ladies getting ready in the morning is a disaster.
04:54We love to cook.
04:55We love to get in the kitchen.
04:56My youngest, Kaylin, she's the baker.
04:58My oldest, she's the Italian pasta girl.
05:01Yes.
05:02So a nice kitchen.
05:03We're going to do inspiration tours.
05:04So we want to get the footprint right and the layout right.
05:06Okay.
05:07But then we also, for the design part, want to infuse your personality.
05:11What's your style?
05:12So I like a real like a boho style.
05:14Okay.
05:15For my kitchen, I kind of imagined something that's going to give me a nice Tuscan look and feel because we love to cook Italian food.
05:23Can I tell you how excited I am to dive into something a little bit different with this whole Tuscan boho vibe?
05:29Now, I will say it might be challenging trying to figure out this particular style.
05:33Would it be Tuskemian?
05:35Tuskemian.
05:36I'm all about it.
05:37Tuskemian.
05:38Also, I'm like really craving Italian food right now.
05:40What are we looking at as far as budget?
05:42So the budget is going to be around $275,000.
05:45Okay.
05:46You know, I think a lot of people have the wrong impression about Habitat for Humanity.
05:49This is not a free house.
05:51Lace is going to be working towards it and also paying on it.
05:54The way they have to go through educational courses and put in 350 hours of sweat equity.
06:00I mean, this is going to make this even more cherishable for her and set her up for success to take care of this home after she moves in.
06:07I hope you're ready to work with me.
06:09Absolutely.
06:10Your daughter's going to work too?
06:11Oh, yeah. They're excited.
06:12Let's do it, girl.
06:13Inspiration tours are next.
06:14All right.
06:15Are we going to Italy?
06:16Is that what we decided?
06:17I will call my travel agent today.
06:18I'm coming with if that's the case.
06:19Maybe.
06:26Okay, Lace, so today I'm excited.
06:28My job is to try to figure out how much boho and Tuscan we're going to do.
06:31Gotcha.
06:32I like that.
06:33I know what a boho style is, right?
06:34You've got a lot of organic features, a lot of overlapping of textures and patterns.
06:39Tuscan style, a lot of earthy tones, but combining those two and making it look good under one roof, that's going to be the challenge.
06:46Come on in, Lace.
06:49It's got a lot of the wood textures, the green.
06:52I like the boho living room style.
06:55Definitely noticing the greenery.
06:56You know, I love my plants.
06:58I like to have that wood thrown in there.
07:00I love that.
07:01Yes.
07:02I think the light fixtures might look a little bit too modern.
07:05I like vintage lights, something a little bit more simple.
07:08Okay.
07:09Layout-wise, we've got to think about square footage on the floor.
07:11The kitchen's a little separate.
07:13We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I kind of want that kitchen to blend with the living room space.
07:19Okay.
07:20We don't really need a formal dining area.
07:22It would be space that we wouldn't use very much.
07:24Just some barstool seating would be, you know, good enough for us.
07:27Okay, so let's go see where we're making the fettuccine out for you.
07:30Mm-hmm.
07:32Where's the Tuscan coming in?
07:33I feel like you like the Italian food.
07:34This is really where the Tuscan comes in.
07:36In the kitchen?
07:37In the kitchen.
07:38So what are your thoughts on cabinetry?
07:40Um, I mean, I would go either a gray or the white and not, you know, combine the two.
07:45The hardware, a darker color.
07:46Okay.
07:47You know, not that gold, you know, gives it a little bit more of a modern tone.
07:50All right, well, this is not giving me the Tuscan vibes.
07:52I feel like we still got more to see.
07:54But I think this next kitchen will be much closer to what you want.
07:57Okay.
07:58Let's go.
08:03Okay, so Lace, when you step into this kitchen, do you feel like you're in Tuscany?
08:07Um, I mean, it's not really what I was, um, envisioning.
08:14You know, I'm not really seeing the Tuscan.
08:17It's just too plain for me.
08:19Um, it doesn't have enough character.
08:22Please tell me you have more Tuscan kitchens to see.
08:25Um, I mean, it's not really what I was envisioning.
08:32You know, I'm not really seeing the Tuscan.
08:34I'm struggling a little bit.
08:36Tuscan style.
08:37It's so specific.
08:38I mean, we're talking about one region and one region only.
08:42And, uh, unfortunately, there's not a lot of those in Tampa.
08:45Um, please tell me you have more Tuscan kitchens to see.
08:49It's really gonna be impossible, I think, to find a kitchen that has all your elements.
08:53Um, I feel like we might need to look at some pictures.
08:57I need to kind of get a better insight.
08:59Okay.
09:00On what you're thinking.
09:01There's nothing wrong with looking at some photos and, uh, you know, perousing the internet.
09:06Perousing, is that a word?
09:07That's browsing and perusing together.
09:09That's what I do.
09:10All right.
09:11So check this out.
09:12I like how they threw the green in there.
09:14Really, really nice.
09:15The copper, you know, pans gives it a nice vintage touch.
09:18Getting some ideas of the final touches we can put in this kitchen.
09:21Arches are kind of a thing there, too.
09:24I feel like we kind of see that.
09:25Yeah, that is really nice.
09:27That really gives a Tuscan vibe.
09:29It's good to know that this is a unique style.
09:32You know, it's not something that's just out there.
09:34It's not in a lot of homes.
09:35And what do you think about the layout?
09:36Love the standalone island.
09:38When you're in the kitchen, you're still a part of the family.
09:42We'll have to tweak it around a little bit and figure out on the floor plan what's gonna make the most sense.
09:46Okay.
09:47To give you the flow into the living room, but also to make sure we stay within our scope for the scale of everything.
09:52So I can't promise that we can give Lace a huge standalone island in her kitchen.
09:57It takes a huge amount of space, and we have to be careful with square footage and the budget.
10:03Okay, so we've got a lot of good insight in here.
10:06You ready to go check out a bedroom space?
10:07Yeah, let's do it.
10:08All right.
10:11What do you think about this room?
10:12Um, I like it.
10:13It has kind of a nice boho aesthetic, so I do like that.
10:16There's definitely gonna be plants in my bedroom, so we're gonna need more natural light.
10:20Um, so just the one window I don't think would be good enough.
10:23All right.
10:24What are we thinking for the girls' rooms?
10:25Give me some hints.
10:26Liana loves to read.
10:28She always has a book she's reading, so I think a reading space in her room would be really nice.
10:33And then Kaylin is a little bit more flashy.
10:35You know, she likes sparkles and glitter and lights.
10:39I love it.
10:40Although we didn't see 100% of every single feature that Lace wants in her house.
10:43Don't necessarily need a stand-alone tub.
10:46I do feel like she was able to give me some choices today that will blend well together.
10:51Um, I think it would be cool to do, like, some type of LED mirror for the girls.
10:55The ceiling fan looks just a little bit too plain for me.
10:58I feel like I got a good head start.
11:00Girl, are you craving pasta?
11:02Because I am craving some pasta.
11:03Always craving pasta.
11:04I feel real confident that this floor plan is going to make not only your life a little
11:17easier, but your girls' as well.
11:19So I think we should start with the exterior.
11:21It does have this Craftsman bungalow style to it.
11:24I think the columns kind of add a little bit of shape to the elevation.
11:27I love it.
11:28I love the columns.
11:29You ready to move inside?
11:30I know you're ready.
11:31I am.
11:32One of the biggest things you were saying is that you and the girls love to cook together.
11:35Yeah.
11:36So you have great room, kitchen, and dining all in one big space.
11:39Yeah.
11:40I know during the Inspiration Tours, the kitchen was one of the rooms that we really were paying
11:44attention to details.
11:45Unfortunately, with this, if we put a stand-alone island in the center here, it's going to be
11:50kind of looking at a wall.
11:51It won't allow you to have that engagement with the great room.
11:54Yeah.
11:55The standard island, it's about six feet by three feet long, and there honestly wouldn't
11:58be enough space to walk around it unless we made the kitchen bigger and your bedroom
12:03smaller.
12:04Um, you know, you want to feel like you're part of the party, not standing alone, right?
12:09Yeah.
12:10Yeah.
12:11True.
12:12Yeah.
12:13Yeah.
12:14Yeah.
12:15Yeah.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Yeah.
12:18Yeah.
12:19All right.
12:20So you technically still have an island.
12:21It's just attached to the rest of the kitchen.
12:22Definitely bummed about the island to not have it, but that's okay.
12:26Okay.
12:27So as far as the three bedrooms, they are separate.
12:29So off to the right-hand side, you're going to have their two bedrooms with a bathroom in
12:33the middle that they can share.
12:35Perfect.
12:36And then of course, mama gets her own side of the house.
12:38Yeah.
12:39So you'll be over here to the left.
12:40That's awesome.
12:41Hold on.
12:42I'm just looking at this.
12:43Where are your daughters going to walk through your room now?
12:45Oh, no.
12:46I know.
12:47Nowhere near my room.
12:48You're probably going to miss it though, right?
12:49Probably not.
12:50Okay.
12:51I know you're not going to miss sharing a bathroom, right?
12:52So you have your own custom bathroom.
12:54My favorite part.
12:56Overall, how are you feeling about everything with this floor plan?
12:59The floor plan looks good.
13:00So all in all, this house, it's right around 2,300 square feet.
13:04You've got the three bedrooms, the two bathroom, attached garage.
13:07And we kept it in your budget of $275,000.
13:10I think it's definitely going to work.
13:11So I feel like we're good here.
13:13Now can we just go explore?
13:15I mean, look at where we're at right now, y'all.
13:16Let's go right here.
13:17This is a monumental day and just so excited to get this one started.
13:30We've built nearly 1,000 homes in our community and every single one of them is unique in its own way.
13:35We've built a lot of houses.
13:36Not 1,000.
13:37You've got to be there.
13:38But we've never had it where it's collaboratively having the homeowners really be hands-on with the project.
13:44Well, it's time to kick off this bill right now.
13:46Yeah!
13:47Here comes our workers.
13:48Yes!
13:49How does it feel to finally be here?
13:51Yes.
13:52It feels really good.
13:53I know my mom works hard for everything that she gets and she's working hard for this.
13:57Words cannot even describe how proud I am of her.
14:01Like, she's come such a long way.
14:03She's so determined and she pushes and motivates herself and us.
14:07Best mom.
14:08Yes, mom.
14:09So now it's time for you to work hard for your mom.
14:12Yes.
14:13We think it'd be real special for you guys to do the groundbreaking ceremony.
14:17It means everything to have my girls here to be a part of this process.
14:21So the fact that they can be a part of the build, it's awesome.
14:25Three, two, one.
14:27Let's do it.
14:28Woo!
14:29Oh, my goodness.
14:30Oh, my God.
14:31This crap is so hard.
14:32It's tough.
14:33Come on, girls.
14:34It's so hard.
14:35It's actually so hard.
14:36I'm concerned that this is going to take longer than 100 days.
14:39You're probably right.
14:40Mike, what do you say we bring in the reinforcement?
14:42Let's do it.
14:43All right.
14:44Thanks for the help, ladies.
14:45We got it from here.
14:47Wow.
14:49That's a little bit better, right?
14:52Yes.
14:53We needed that.
14:54So, Mike, they've got to put in 350 hours.
14:57How many hours did they get today?
14:59About 15 minutes.
15:00Oh!
15:01Whoa!
15:02First piece of artwork.
15:03Let's go.
15:04Get in here.
15:05Say day one on three.
15:07One, two, three.
15:08Day one!
15:19Listen, I love the fact that y'all are doing this together.
15:22So, I have some samples based on feedback that you gave me.
15:25I feel like these selections kind of are in that family of boho, a little organic.
15:31You notice with the greens, even this kind of mimics like a concrete.
15:34Yeah.
15:35I know you picked white cabinets.
15:37So, these are going to work well with those.
15:39The inspiration tours, we kind of narrowed it down to either doing white cabinets or something in the gray family.
15:45So, I want you guys to just give me some feedback.
15:48Are there any colors here that you don't like?
15:51Um...
15:54Probably that one.
15:55Yeah, I was just about to say.
15:56I like that one or you don't.
15:57Don't.
15:58Don't.
15:59Do you love this lace?
16:00It's not bad because it's not white, but it's not too dark.
16:03With that little splash of brown.
16:04It looks like coffee spilled on that or something.
16:09Oh!
16:10What's your favorite?
16:12Uh, that one.
16:14Um...
16:15I like that one.
16:18We're definitely not always on the same page.
16:21Um, sometimes we can't decide what we want to eat for dinner.
16:24It's just, you know, the smallest things.
16:25I mean, that one's nice, but it might be too dark.
16:28Like, that darker, bolder color coming through might be a little too dark.
16:33So, is this the only one you like?
16:35Mm-hmm.
16:37I also like this one.
16:38And I like this sandy vibe it gives.
16:41It's just a little bit of brown.
16:42It's boring.
16:46Anyways.
16:49We're never on the same page.
16:50Anything you could think of.
16:51I want the opposite and she wants.
16:53We never agree.
16:54Yeah, we're just opposites.
16:55It's always been that way.
16:56Yeah.
16:57I mean, this is a house you're all gonna live in.
16:59I want you all to be happy.
17:01But we gotta agree on something.
17:06I kind of like this sandy vibe it gives.
17:09It's just a little bit of brown.
17:10It's boring.
17:11Okay, so, Lace, this is gonna be kind of something you see right when you walk in the door.
17:15And it might affect some of the color prop you put in the living room.
17:18I think it's between these two.
17:20I really like the green and I like that one.
17:23Well, if you're gonna pick one, I think it should be this one.
17:26Yeah, I agree.
17:27Just completely.
17:28I agree with that.
17:29So you guys don't like that one?
17:30No.
17:31No.
17:32Okay.
17:33You like this one?
17:34I do.
17:35I like it a lot, actually.
17:36So you like it way better than-
17:37You have both the themes together.
17:38You have Tuscan in the kitchen and then you have Boho coming into the living room.
17:42And it's really different.
17:43I like it.
17:44Got a lot of movement.
17:45Each has a little bit of brown.
17:46Right.
17:47Which I kind of like because our floor choices are all gonna be like-
17:51Okay.
17:52In that kind of tone.
17:53Right.
17:54You gotta compare it.
17:55I like the characteristics in the wood.
17:58Oh, so you want the details, too.
17:59Yeah, details.
18:00Right.
18:01Because I also feel like if this is a little bit lighter-
18:03I think the other one goes perfect.
18:04Yeah, the other one is dark.
18:05The other one looks a little bit more natural for me.
18:07I like that.
18:08It's pretty-
18:09Did I just get all three of y'all to agree on something?
18:11Did you?
18:12What?
18:13Y'all need to have good choices.
18:16Awesome.
18:17Can't wait to see it all come together.
18:26Today is block day, so that means we are finally going vertical.
18:29It's gonna start taking shape very quickly.
18:31You know, block work is probably the hardest part of a new construction project.
18:35They're 28 pounds a piece, so they're not quite too easy to move around.
18:39It is a ton of manual labor.
18:41It's also an incredible bicep workout.
18:47I'm raising the roof today.
18:54Interior walls are going up tomorrow.
18:56Mika laced, all the volunteers are gonna be here, and I promised they would have shade,
18:59so we gotta get this whole house under roof today.
19:02It's got a lot of work to do.
19:04That's a tight squeeze.
19:06Damn, that's tight.
19:08Coming up?
19:09Yep.
19:10So we could've got a crane for this, but it would've been really tight on this lot.
19:17Plus, we're saving like $500, which can go to upgrades for lace on the inside of her house,
19:22which I'm sure she will appreciate, and I'm sure Mika will be able to spend very quickly.
19:27That's the way you do it without a crane.
19:31All right, everybody.
19:36Thank you so much for coming out today.
19:38It's a little chilly here in Tampa Bay, but we're so excited to have you all out here as we start some work today on the inside of this home.
19:45Yes, it's a little bit cold, but you guys are bringing the warm welcome by coming out here and volunteering.
19:50We could not do it without you.
19:52So let's get to work and raise lace as walls.
19:54All right.
19:55You ready?
19:56I'm ready.
19:57Okay, construction site work is definitely something that Brian is more versed in than I am, but today I would not miss.
20:03We're going old school today.
20:05Hammers and nails.
20:06Hammers and nails.
20:13So, hey, we're gonna build all the walls on the floor, and then we start standing them up, and then your house starts taking a shave.
20:18So this is the wall to Lacey's bedroom.
20:21Teamwork makes the dream work.
20:23It feels very special to see all these people come out today.
20:26I just told my daughter all these people are out here because they really care.
20:29This feels great.
20:30Absolutely.
20:31I had a moment where I looked around, you know, and I almost got emotional because they don't have to be out here.
20:39They are for us.
20:40It's hard to put that into words.
20:42These are the hard ones.
20:44Come on, baby.
20:45Let's go.
20:46Oh, my gosh.
20:47This is harder than it looks.
20:49Here we go.
20:55You know what?
20:57I can't.
20:58Oh, you think it's the hammer?
21:01It's definitely the hammer.
21:02Why is it not going in straight?
21:08Oh, my gosh.
21:09Is this a trick now?
21:11Hey, you need help?
21:13Tag team.
21:14No, I don't need your help.
21:17I don't think it was me.
21:18I think it was the tool.
21:20It was not the user.
21:25All right.
21:26Let's check the footage back.
21:27Oh, come on.
21:31Oh, dang.
21:32Whatever.
21:33All right.
21:34All right.
21:35All right.
21:36You ready?
21:37Yeah.
21:38All right.
21:39Is this the first official wall?
21:40First wall going up.
21:41You ready, Lace?
21:42Do it.
21:43All right.
21:44Yeah.
21:45Oh, my gosh.
21:46We have liftoff.
21:48Yes.
21:49Rotate, rotate.
21:51Oh, there we go, ladies and gentlemen.
21:53All right, Lace.
21:54Are you ready to walk into your main bedroom?
21:58I am.
21:59After you.
22:00All right.
22:01Look at that.
22:02There we are.
22:03This is it.
22:04I love it.
22:05I can see my bed here waking up in the morning and just being able to look out the window and enjoy it.
22:14I really feel like you're going to get some great lighting in here and have a nice view of your backyard area.
22:18It's going to be prettier than this when we're done.
22:20Yeah, yeah.
22:21I can't wait.
22:22I can't dream about it.
22:30Let me just take a minute to digest this update because I don't know how we're going to pull this off without delaying the whole project.
22:37So yesterday, Lace reached out to us and let's just say I hardly slept at all last night.
22:43Hey, Mika.
22:44I was wondering if it's possible to convert that back window into a door.
22:49A door?
22:50I would absolutely love to have that backyard access directly from my room.
22:55So, um, yeah.
22:56Let me know.
22:57Let me know what you think.
22:58Drywall is already in.
23:00I just, I hate going backwards in the construction process.
23:04To turn a window into a door, it's permitting process.
23:08It's cutting through drywall that we just installed the other day.
23:11It's cutting through block.
23:13If we order this, is it going to take three or four weeks to get the door?
23:16Like, is this door more important than getting into your front door on time?
23:21Because that might be an issue.
23:23Yeah, it might be too late.
23:25I don't know how we're going to pull this off without delaying the whole project.
23:32This is something that Lace brought to us kind of last minute, so we might be in trouble.
23:37Kind of last minute?
23:38Yeah.
23:39I mean, so right now in this rental, Lace has to actually go through her daughter's room to get to the outdoor space.
23:45So this is a wishlist item that I really feel is going to be impactful for her.
23:50Can she not just go out the window?
23:53No, let me tell you something real quick, because that's my teenage years.
23:56Let's see if I can still do it.
23:57Is that how you used to sneak out of the house?
23:59Be quiet, be quiet, be quiet.
24:00It always was bad when my brother would lock the window for me to get back in.
24:05All right, so we can agree that Lace is not going to go out the window to her backyard.
24:10That's not going to work.
24:11And once I got busted, those windows were concrete shut and they never opened again.
24:15Thanks, Mom.
24:16I definitely feel like we got to try to make it happen.
24:20She's put in so much sweat equity and hours into this house.
24:23Hmm.
24:24For some reason, I don't think you're going to give me a choice.
24:27Let's just see if we can pull some favors as far as expediting it, if we can get it ordered today.
24:32Hmm.
24:33I know that they have to put in a certain amount of hours, but I want her to have that surprise element.
24:39And I think Lace can go sprinkle her work at other Habitat for Humanity houses.
24:44I kind of agree, and hopefully the daughters can keep a secret.
24:47I feel like they can.
24:48All right, so we have to figure out the special project.
24:51I think in this situation, we should sprinkle the special projects in multiple spaces.
24:57This is a unique situation where everybody has put in the work, so everybody deserves a little something special.
25:03The good news is we already figured out Lace's special project.
25:07That could be part of our multiple special projects, so let's take a look around and see what else we can come up with.
25:13I think this is pretty special.
25:14It is pretty special.
25:15I'm not going to lie.
25:16All right, so the kitchen, she was a little bit bummed about not having, like, a freestanding island.
25:22So I'm wondering if there's a way to do some kind of island that's in the middle but also flexible where it can move.
25:29How big are you thinking?
25:30So maybe, like, four or five feet.
25:32Nothing crazy.
25:33And then we can maybe do something above it with lighting that has that kind of, like, Tuscany feel.
25:38I think it makes sense.
25:39So Katelyn's over here, and Lace told me she is the flashy one.
25:45I think, like, an accent wall would be cool for her with some color.
25:49I think it has to have some texture.
25:50Yeah.
25:51Also, if we could, like, integrate some lighting.
25:53Flashy.
25:54Now, Liana, she's kind of more, like, she loves to read.
25:57Let's check it out.
25:58She's more like Jade, it feels like.
25:59I mean, we could do maybe, like, some seating.
26:02It would be cool to have a little bit of storage for books.
26:04Absolutely.
26:05I like that.
26:06I do love the ideas that we came up with.
26:08I think these are all manageable, and they're going to be amazing.
26:19Good thing the permits came back so quickly.
26:21We got it done in record time.
26:23These last couple days have been extremely stressful because we are at a standstill.
26:28And we can't finish the drywall.
26:29We can't paint the drywall.
26:31We can't even paint the exterior because there's stucco repair.
26:33So I'm so glad that we pulled some strings.
26:36And today we're going to take out the window and install the door.
26:42All right, Rick, let's see if we can pull this off.
26:44Okay.
26:47I got it.
26:48You want to start pulling the drywall out?
26:49Yeah.
26:56Okay.
26:57Now the fun part.
26:58Cinder block filled solid with concrete.
27:00Here we go.
27:04So Mika says, hey, it'll be easy.
27:07Just take the window out and put a door in.
27:09I'll take it.
27:10Easy for her to set it.
27:12Oh, my gosh.
27:13That is solid.
27:14Come on.
27:15She better really enjoy this door.
27:19You almost got it.
27:21Woo.
27:22There's your door opening.
27:23All right.
27:24We'll cut the box.
27:25Get it cleaned up.
27:26Go ahead and come back.
27:27All right.
27:28This process was actually a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.
27:41And just like that, we have a door.
27:43It looks perfect.
27:44She is going to love it.
27:45We've got a paint party going on at Laces.
27:47And the goal today is to make sure we get more paint on the house than we do ourselves.
28:00And I think I'm actually losing so far.
28:02Anybody else got paint on them?
28:03Yeah.
28:04Hell yeah.
28:05Hey, girls.
28:06You're doing a great job helping paint, but I need help with something else.
28:09What?
28:10Do not tell your mom that we turned her window into a door.
28:14You got me?
28:15Yeah.
28:16Secret?
28:17Yep.
28:26Come on in, Lace.
28:28Check this out.
28:29I kind of have a little surprise for you.
28:31They didn't use a crane for your trusses, which saved us like 500 bucks.
28:35Mm-hmm.
28:36So I said, hmm, where can we spend that $500 that's really going to elevate the look that
28:41you're going for?
28:42And I think if we pick some really cool hardware for your kitchen, it's going to give it that
28:46Tuscan vibe.
28:47Wow, wonderful.
28:48I definitely wasn't expecting to, you know, have an option in choosing the cabinet hardware.
28:53So this is definitely exciting.
28:55There are a lot of choices in here.
28:57This is going to get overwhelming.
28:58You ready?
28:59All right, let's do it.
29:00All right, let's do it.
29:01Oh my gosh, girl, there's so many choices.
29:05Yes.
29:06Like there's wood over here.
29:08Hmm.
29:09This is fun, but this is modern.
29:11Too common.
29:12Girl, we're going to find something.
29:14Tuscan-y, where are you?
29:16When you're talking about Tuscan style, you're talking about something that's going to be a
29:20little bit more ornate.
29:21It's going to have kind of almost a vintage vibe to it.
29:24Hmm.
29:25Choices.
29:26Yowzas.
29:27These are really different.
29:29Oh, wow.
29:30Okay, so that reminds me like of the top of a cathedral or something.
29:34Yes.
29:35But are you going to love it forever?
29:37Okay, okay.
29:38Um, I might, like you said, feel like I'm in a cathedral.
29:43Um, it is getting overwhelming.
29:48Yeah, it is.
29:51Ah!
29:56Um, I feel like we can find this, though.
29:58I mean, it's kind of overwhelming because there is a lot of stuff in here.
30:00Yeah, it is.
30:02Today, I thought I was bringing good news with Surprising Lace with an upgraded cabinet
30:07hardware shopping trip.
30:08However, I also know I need 25 knobs, three drawer pulls, and there's about a thousand choices.
30:13We got some choices.
30:14We got some choices.
30:15All right.
30:16Ah, let's see.
30:17Yeah.
30:18Nope.
30:19Not enough character in that for me there.
30:22This is cool.
30:23It has a nice little bronzy look.
30:25It's cute.
30:26I like it.
30:27It looks like a little wine there.
30:28Oh, it does.
30:29Doesn't it?
30:30There's nothing wrong with that.
30:31And you think Tuscany.
30:32You think grape pasta.
30:33You think wine.
30:34Exactly.
30:35Vineyards.
30:36Yay!
30:37Are you feeling good about it?
30:38Definitely.
30:39Yes!
30:40Girl, I can't wait to have some fettuccine alfredo.
30:41What are you going to cook for me?
30:43Pasta night?
30:44Come on, now.
30:45That's right.
30:46I'll bring the wine, though.
30:47Okay.
30:48You bring the pasta.
30:49James, I've always switched sides.
31:01No, I'm happy over here.
31:03There's so much going on at Lace's house today.
31:06We poured the driveway yesterday.
31:08The lot's getting graded today.
31:10Countertops arriving pretty soon.
31:12We've got not just one, but two special projects.
31:14And we've got plumbers here, landscaping here.
31:17Hey, Brian.
31:18Yeah?
31:19Delivery.
31:20Countertops.
31:21Oh, countertops are here.
31:22Hey, hey.
31:23Oh, look how pretty those are.
31:24I do like this color.
31:25All right, Mika, how's traffic looking?
31:26Uh, right now we are in the clear, boys.
31:29Directing traffic and bossing people around.
31:31That's my jam.
31:35Nice and easy.
31:36Woo-hoo!
31:37Easy does it.
31:38Teamwork, teamwork.
31:39Hey, you got one behind you.
31:40I know.
31:41You got one behind you.
31:42Have a good day.
31:43Oh, yeah.
31:44Nice work, Mink.
31:45Gorgeous.
31:46Ooh, nice and easy.
31:47Got it.
31:48Fingers, fingers, fingers.
31:50And then this way a little bit, we're there.
31:52Mm-hmm.
31:53Ooh, that's so gorgeous.
31:55Once we get some awesome hardware and the light fixtures in here,
31:59you're going to feel like you're in Tuscany.
32:04Oh, man, James, you are quick, my friend.
32:06I love on this house that we have three special projects
32:10for three very special ladies.
32:12We're ready to paint.
32:13Ooh, we got to figure that out.
32:14I was going to say, I need you to pick a color.
32:16You know, I have a teenager, and I know how they change their style,
32:19their trends all the time, so let's just keep it simple because we
32:23can always dress it up with pillows and decor in the room.
32:26So I think that would be good as white.
32:28Yeah, I think that would look good.
32:29And then we got to figure out the wall in the other bedroom, too.
32:33Liana and Kaelin, they both are going to have something a little special in their rooms.
32:37That's going to give some nice dimension.
32:39I want them to feel like they're at home from the very moment they open that door.
32:42Oh, you guys are already moving in material.
32:44Yes, ma'am.
32:45I got them all planed out and already cut to size, so we're good to go.
32:48Oh, no, we're going to do thin flats.
32:50How thin are we talking?
32:52Probably like maybe two inches.
32:54So guess what, Jessa?
32:58Carrying them back out.
32:59These are going out to the backyard.
33:01We got to rip all these down.
33:02Yeah, because that's not going to cut it, but you're going to have to cut it.
33:05Thank you, guys.
33:07Mika, main suite, right?
33:20Ooh, big pieces.
33:21Come on down.
33:22Straight back.
33:23Today is day 99.
33:25It's also the last day that Lace is going to be a renter.
33:28Okay, Lace wanted an island.
33:30She got an island.
33:31We made it happen.
33:32I was going to say watch your head, but I think you're safe.
33:34I'm not, though.
33:35Are we good?
33:36It's been so cool to be part of this journey, and this has been a different adventure with
33:40everybody involved, all the volunteers.
33:42We got a full house here.
33:43Oh, my goodness.
33:44Yes.
33:45What is this called?
33:46A puff?
33:47A poof.
33:48We could not finish this project without Mr. Kevin.
33:50Hey, he's easy now.
33:51He's probably not supposed to be here today.
33:53No, he's not.
33:54My dad, it seems like he's had a lot of injuries and a lot of surgeries lately.
33:58Don't tell Ellen or don't tell my doctor.
34:00My mom actually texted me this morning and said,
34:02make sure your dad doesn't work too hard today.
34:05Mmm.
34:06Oh, yes.
34:08Can somebody bring me an iced tea?
34:12Hello?
34:13This hardware is, like, made for this kitchen.
34:18Oh, that's a little bit of Tuscan.
34:20Now, nice copper little pop.
34:22I have to admit, I thought it was going to be a challenge, like, marrying these two styles of Bohemian and Tuscany together.
34:29Got one more nightstand coming in.
34:30Oh, perfect timing, Brian.
34:32Did someone order a one nightstand?
34:34Okay, you know what?
34:35What?
34:36Just put it over there.
34:37I feel like there's a cohesiveness.
34:38I love this table.
34:40This is giving me, like, Tuscan wine barrel vibes.
34:43The wood tones are in each room.
34:45Those pops are green from the countertops to some of the decor.
34:48We didn't just invent a new design style.
34:51We also invented a new word.
34:53Tuskemian or Tuske-bean?
34:54No, Tuskemian.
34:55Tuskemian.
34:56It's like Bohemian and Tuscany together.
34:58Mmm.
34:59It's a perfect mix.
35:00You know what I'm missing?
35:01I need that plant life.
35:03That's where my boho is.
35:06Lace's mom is bringing us life today.
35:09By that, I mean plants.
35:11Ooh!
35:13Hey, guys!
35:14I don't know if I'm more impressed with the plants or the car.
35:16That's right.
35:17How you like it?
35:18How you doing?
35:19How you doing?
35:20Look at this.
35:21We have to handle these with care.
35:22Yes.
35:23I already know how much these mean to Lace.
35:24Yes.
35:25It's all labeled.
35:26This one is indoor.
35:27Indoor.
35:28And then I'll get indoor, too.
35:30Yes.
35:31These are Lace's babies.
35:32We've got to be careful with these.
35:33Huh?
35:34Oh, my God.
35:35I can't.
35:36Why did you have me come in here?
35:37Why?
35:38Oh, my God.
35:40This is so beautiful.
35:42Are you thinking it's good?
35:43I guess this means you approve.
35:45I'm a little hot, Tokyo.
35:47Approve?
35:49Oh, is she gonna be...
35:50Is she gonna like it?
35:51I'm the same way.
35:52Look at me.
35:53Oh.
35:54Is she gonna love it?
35:55Yeah.
35:56Hey, my dad's here.

36:10I don't know.
36:11She's so particular.
36:12Oh, my gosh.
36:13The plants just keep coming.
36:14Yeah.

36:20Woo-hoo.

36:23Oh, Mika.
36:24I will say that looks divine.
36:25Oh, boy.
36:26Hey, help me out.
36:27Get that other side.
36:28I love the fact that these are plants from Lace's old house that are going to the new house.
36:35Oh, it's like a greenhouse.
36:37Literally.
36:38I gotta figure out the perfect color for Kaelin here.
36:39Ooh.
36:40I think she's gonna love green.
36:42I like the green because it does kind of go with the decor.
36:45However, I feel like Kaelin, she wants something a little bit flashier.
36:47Dial up whatever color you want to love.
36:48Ooh.
36:49Okay.
36:50I am loving the hot pink.
36:51Tell me when to stop.
36:52Hot pink.
36:53Lace has been waiting for the new house.
36:54Oh, boy.
36:55Hey, help me out.

37:47It pretty much was.
37:48It pretty much was.
37:49I must say, through this process, you put in the work and now it is time to enjoy and celebrate
37:55all that hard work, girl.
37:56Are you ready to not only walk into your dream home but walk into your future?
37:59I am.

38:47You remember when we talked about the island?
38:50Yes.
38:51Tobacco, well, we were able to give you an island.
38:54And the nice thing with this is you can move your island around, girl.
38:58You can do whatever you need.
38:59Absolutely gorgeous.
39:00You see the Tuscan.
39:01I love, love the countertops.

39:19Wow.
39:20It's just so gorgeous.
39:21Oh.
39:24I was very careful with this one because your mom said this one's fragile.
39:27Indeed it is.
39:28So we've seen kind of the main living areas, but we also want to make sure everybody has their private oasis.
39:33Let's venture to the girls' rooms.
39:35All right.
39:36Ooh.
39:37Lucky daughters.
39:38Wow.

39:45It does change.
39:46Different colors.
39:47So depending on her mood, she can kind of change it up.
39:48She's going to love this.
39:49It's so cute.
39:50I love it.
39:51As most siblings are, they're like opposites.
39:54Liana's kind of more of your quiet.
39:56She's into reading.
39:57So we want to make sure we gave her something special, too.

40:10And guess what?
40:11You don't have to walk through each other's rooms anymore.

40:31I'm not at all.
40:32OK.
40:33Let's do it.
40:38Wow.

40:43In my own bathroom?
40:44She's like, wait a second.
40:45Is this a bathroom?
40:46What?
40:47Your own.
40:48I love the fact that you have that little bit of Tuscan flair
40:51with the light fixtures in here.
40:53Yeah.
40:54But definitely boho with the basket weave, the plants.
40:57Sure.
40:58Oh, my goodness.

41:34Definitely going to make some Italian food for sure.
41:36We're going to build a lot of memories.
41:38Oh, man.
41:39We've already built a lot of memories.
41:40We have.
41:41I think the best part is we did not build this house.
41:44We built this house and we as a community built this house.
41:48We did.
41:49It's very sentimental.
41:50It's been an emotional journey because it does mean a lot to me.
41:53Mm-hmm.
41:54We do have one more thing for you.
41:55Okay.
41:56Stay right there.
41:57This may look familiar.
41:59Ha!
42:00This is the official groundbreaking shovel that we use right here in your lot.
42:05And this is everybody who put not only their hard work, but their heart work into your house to make it come true.
42:15Yeah.
42:16And we'll keep this forever.
42:17Absolutely.
42:18Love it.
42:19This has been a special one, one that we will never forget.

42:32We're finally here.
42:33I love it.
42:34It's comfy.
42:35I'm really, you know, happy and proud of mom.
42:37This journey that we've been on to home ownership, I've done this for my girls.
42:42I want them to see, you know, you work hard.
42:44If you want something, you can achieve it.
42:46I guess let's get dinner going.
42:47Yeah.

42:49They made me a better person, a better woman, a great mom.
42:53Shrimp Alfredo.
