00:00YouTube has agreed to pay Donald Trump US$22 million to settle his 2021 lawsuit against the company.
00:08The case was filed after YouTube suspended the president's account following the January 6th Capitol riots.
00:15The settlement also includes US$2.5 million for other plaintiffs,
00:20including the American Conservative Union and writer Naomi Wolf.
00:24Trump previously sued Meta, X and Google for suspending his accounts on their platforms in 2021,
00:30claiming it violated his First Amendment rights.
00:34According to the court filing, his $22 million award will go into a trust to help fund his White House renovation project.
00:41That project, expected to cost $200 million,
00:44will see the building's east wing expanded to a 90,000-square-foot structure with a capacity of 650 people.
00:52YouTube has also recently acted to resolve other disputes with the Trump administration,
00:57including reinstating accounts of creators previously banned for COVID-19 and election-related misinformation.
