US President Donald Trump secured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's backing on Sept 29 for a US-sponsored peace proposal to end the nearly two-year-old war in Gaza, but questions loomed over whether Hamas would accept the plan.

Trump said they were "beyond very close" to the deal but he warned Hamas that Israel would have full US support to take whatever action it deemed necessary if Hamas rejects what US has offered.

00:00A proposal to end the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and ensure peace in the Middle East made
00:07a major breakthrough when Israel agreed to the plan on Monday.
00:11U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a press conference
00:16in the White House that they are beyond very close to the peace deal.
00:21But questions loomed over whether Hamas would accept the plan.
00:25But if Hamas rejects your plan, Mr. President, or if they supposedly accept it and then basically
00:35do everything to counter it, then Israel will finish the job by itself.
00:43This can be done the easy way or it can be done the hard way, but it will be done.
00:52We prefer the easy way, but it has to be done.
00:55I also want to thank Prime Minister Netanyahu for agreeing to the plan and for trusting that
01:02if we work together we can bring an end to the death and destruction that we've seen for
01:07so many years, decades, even centuries, and begin a new chapter of security, peace and prosperity
01:13for the entire region.
01:15If accepted by Hamas, this proposal calls for the release of all remaining hostages immediately,
01:23but in no case more than 72 hours.
01:26The White House released the 20-point peace document that calls for an immediate ceasefire,
01:31an exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, Hamas disarmament,
01:39withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, and a transitional government led by an international
01:44body.
01:45An official told Reuters that the Qatari Prime Minister and the Egyptian intelligence chief
01:51had shared the peace plan with Hamas negotiators, who told Qatari mediators they will review the
01:57plan in good faith and provide response.
01:59It looks like finally, finally, finally, we have a deal to end the war, the bloody war
02:06in Gaza, and bring all our people back home.
02:10This is very, very good news.
02:13President Trump, like he said, is totally committed to bringing peace and prosperity to this region,
02:20and this can only start with the ending of the war in Gaza and bringing back all our people.
02:27I think that eventually they have to. There is no other choice. I mean, everybody agrees that Hamas
02:33cannot and should not have any role in the future of Gaza. So I think that that's a set of the issue.
02:42I don't think they have any other choice unless they really want to bring more bloodshed and resist.
02:50Hamas, which triggered the war with its attack on Israeli civilians at the Gaza-Israel border on October
02:567th, 2023, still holds 48 hostages with 20 of them still alive.
